I put my green onions in a glass jar with water in my fridge, like flowers. The stem ends with the roots can be placed in another glass with water at room temp and will grow new onions!
We freeze whole lemon and limes for juicing and cocktails. Freeze coconut milk, cream. We always freeze leftovers for when you don't feel like cooking.
@@readg4fun no they are perfectly normal for juicing. Coconut milk cream freezes well in ice cube trays. Fresh herbs can freeze if you going to use them for casserole stew, curry.
Freeze your ginger and turmeric, then use a microplane zester to grate it into your dish without peeling it. Melts right into your dish without it being chunky unless you want chunks.
This is great! I am curious to know the why behind these techniques. Not a critique, just curious "why a silver spoon would help a cucumber last longer in the fridge". Might be completely obvious to some but... 🤷♀️😊
@@Rust-g7yactually was a cucumber, but I believe the American variety that’s much larger and looks very zucchini like. Think it the type often used for pickles.
It helps to alleviate the temperature..just keep them separate from tomatoes, bananas & things like that bcuz of the ethylene in the fruits can cause the cucumber to ripen a lot faster
Since i bought a ceramic butter holder, butter can even stay on the counter and always be creamy and soft for fresh baked bread. What a solution this was 😊
Another money saver, buy some seeds and grow your own loose leaf lettuce and pick off the leaves as you need it 😁you can grow it in a pot inside. Here in the uk we sometimes get it where it’s still planted and you do as above. Then you never get wasted bags of lettuce with nasty slime
I like a lot of your ideas but it would be great to use a lot less plastic or none at all. Beeswax wraps are reusable and much more environmentally friendly. Or at least wash and reuse your plastic ziplock bags.
The cucumber and the spoon??? Never knew that. Once I just chopped up one and put it in a glass container with a paper towel. It worked; it didn't dry out the slices, but also, I didn't leave it there for two weeks either. lol Nice video!
I do the tomato paste on the ice cube tray freeze and then seperate same as the lemon juice spring onion I freeze them I freeze parsley, basil , cheese as well I freeze mozzarella grated first put in freezer in a tray when frozen separate and put in freeze bag. Freeze strawberries 🍓 bananas freeze celery , in ice cube I freeze pesto ,freeze slice bread from freezer to toaster bread roll etc
@@ohnoyce I do freezing the spinach wash them boil for 7 minute drain when cold in freezer they go nil go wasted any more freezing butter block as well, Freezer is not only for meat fish and chicken bacon and sausage Tomato cut in to pieces after ripe well Put freezer bag use for what ever required tomato chopped 🍅 make sauce , put in stew in soups etc
@@Rust-g7y I've seen people just pop the loose pack pre-washed boxes out of their freezers and grab handfuls to drop into their sauces. I was windblown because I had no idea that no other prep was needed before freezing.
@@PaulaZFI love this idea. Because even when I label stuff I will still forget it's there. That happens because I don't go to the store that often so when I go I get what I need for a few weeks. Great suggestion!
Lol me too, the writing down on the food or on a calander doesn't always work with ADHD or people with fatigue. I call it the Abbi diet, except I don't do it in purpose😂
I also keep a white board marker in the bathroom to write on the mirror: Things that come to mind for my to-do list. Expiration dates on my contact lenses, toothbrush and nasal spray. Great quotes.
We have a baby koala in the fridge because it serves my baby girl when she.s hurting herself. When you have kids you become inventive 😂😂😂😂 Seriously, a kiss from koala and few cuddles can heal EVERYTHING 😂
Ginger does not need to be peeled. This is definitely not learnt from a chef. U can simply wash it and scrub the dirt down and cut it. This is how it's being down in Asia where it comes from.
So cool. Thanks for this. I will do this with the lemons in a jar of water and all the great tips. 👍 yes, butter has a very special place on its own. 👑 . 😅 the salads I get go bad quickly and strawberries. Was that a cucumber 🥒 or a zucchini you put with the big spoon 🥄 🤔 and the celery and bread 🍞 idea awesome 👌 👏 im so glad I found your video. 👋 👋 sweet ideas. ✌️.
Majority of people don't have the time, care, space, etc to do that, plus this video was not just about herbs. It's saving money by preventing the food you purchased from going bad.
@@JeffandLaurenShow Aah! Of course! I've bought frozen before, but they always come out soggy, but maybe if they're fresh...?🤔 Stay happy, healthy and safe!😊
Wrap each pepper (red, yellow, orange or green) individually in Glad Cling N Seal Wrap, don't wash the peppers! Put the peppers in your produce drawer, this works really well at keeping the peppers fresh for a longer period of time.
You can wash and reuse foil. If I use the same ziplock in the freezer for cheese or spinach, I leave it folded in the freezer door when its empty. I never leave it out.
Most people reuse bags, and a little piece of foil or paper towels isn't going to cancel the value saved. All those tips show food with multiple servings in one package, not like she's going to go open it up to use it all at once.
Some of the tips are great and some would use sooo much of your time when trying to get something out of all that wrapping.... probably a good idea for bagels, not to eat them)))
Plastic waste will be nothing compared to ALL THE PHONES, CORDS, COMPUTERS , BATTERIES USED TO OPERATE TECH, LITHIUM BATTERIES, ALL THE TECHIE GADGETS arriving in our landfills in the very near future....😢
I actually wash and reuse my plastic zip lock bags. I don’t want them at the land fill, if possible. Once I don’t use them for my food items, I will start to use them for around the house. Ie storing Lego, puzzle (because the box broke), toy/game pieces... etc. I also use them in the car for children clothing, so if we are on the road and they get dirty, I have clean clothes for them to change into. But I don’t know if it is safe to use the bags so much like that though, especially after using it for food? But so far, we have not had issues. The only time I throw them out is if there is a hole in them or if my kids rip it accidentally when they try to open the zipper, which does happen on occasion.
And how much of your "savings" are spent with this awful amount of kitchen towel, one way plastic etc? 😂😂 Buy only as much as you need - THAT saves money!
These days food lasts longer than normal without doing any of that. I had celery that lasted from December to February, a head of cabbage and lettuce for 3 months and still looked like it did when purchased. Sonic’s “whipped cream” doesn’t melt. I bought a shake this Wednesday that had too much whipped cream, and what I took off never melted after 2 days in the trash.
