Grooming A Dog With Fleas 

Cuz fleas spread really easily and can be a big problem

Preventative dont prevent fleas jumping on, they only kill the flea when it bites. Learnt that when I found one on the dog and rang the vet as we had treated him only a week before and it was done a few days before it was due from last treatment.

I'm in the same boat, it seems like there's a mutation or something because they are much more difficult to kill and prevent.

Try having 5 puppies that are only 5 weeks! We had to give them 2 baths and they are still have them! We are going to give them a 3rd one today! I really hope they go away!

Use vinegar and use dawn dish liquid. U have to bathe everyday for a week maybe more..... I’m doin all 3 ea day. This is from my experience last year w this. The fleas are like epidemic here in NC.....

agree, he wasnt covered in fleas. Hell, he could have gotten those few she found on the way to the groomer!

Julie Crandall my friend had to change brands with her cat because the brand she was using stopped working. I think any of that medicine can have an immunity built up against it.

Mamatoad what are u using now. I find my cat has an allergic reaction to topical products and there is no oral stuff cats. Did your vet say there is a prescription flea preventative

I’m a K9 handler and my vet said the fleas have adapted to those as well and all the topicals. They require orals now

Seresto collars are working very well for my dogs. I got them on sale at Petco for $54, can’t recall the regular price. I found one flea on both of them (that I could see). They were scratching like crazy though so it wasn’t rocket science that there were more. All I know for sure is that after about 2 days, both of them stopped scratching and biting. I haven’t seen a flea...yet. The collars are supposed to last 8 months however, I’ll be buying replacements at 6 months just to be safe. First year for fleas and I am willing to bet because we stopped having our lawn serviced, the fleas came. Next spring, we will be having our lawn serviced again!

I’m a retired hairstylist and I love to watch the hair fall as she cuts and shaves. Also the beautiful makeover of the dog.

If someone calls and says "do you flea dip dogs" I say no, come in and get comfortis, wait 24 hours for groom and come in. Depending on how many fleas the pet has it may help. Groom fees are extreme. However, after my "flea briefing" and full "briefing" for new clients, and they continue to say "my dog doesn't have fleas" or doesn't know his/her pet has fleas then they come in for grooming and if we "run" into fleas, there are extreme flea charges. As I WOULD RATHER TAKE NO OTHER DOGS, CLOSE UP FOR THE DAY AND NEXT DAY, AND SPRAY THE WHOLE PLACE before I allow other dogs to get a flea. Never has happened, and hope never to happen. It's like saying don't send your child to school sick, what if your child wasn't showing signs until lunch time, then bam, the rest of the day they are coughing and sneezing and fever. Hard to tell exactly, that's I inform of the charges, and let the client know what they are, then they sign a form, then it's on them to pay for the fees so I can run my business properly for the safety of all pets.

I know! Seriously if you can't get a hold of flea killing spray just sprinkle some baking soda with a bit of salt around and they won't go near it. It will/it should, if you sprinkle it all over a carpet, dehydrate and kill off live ones until you can get something to kill the eggs and live ones.

I live in a condo that allows pets and omg the flea attacks are crazy. Thankfully my mom hoards baking soda and borax. Also peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil and petroleum jelly are great alternatives most pest hate the stuff.

Al ValRod this groom took about an hour and the bath maybe 10-20 minuets She said that petsmart would have the dog for around 4 hours That means the groomer was probably working really slow and making the old dog stand for 4 hours

The petCo where I live had my dog at their salon for over 5 hours. I don’t know how long he was on the table, but I never took him back there. Nearly 6 hours is unacceptable. I realize they get busy and have to greet customers that have walk ins and whatnot but I wasn’t about that kind of environment. I love where he goes now. And I always get good report cards.

Service Dog In Training Chopper, they make a powdered version that is easy to pack and travel with. So love it. Great to use on deployments or when traveling.

i found that ppl feed dogs things they should not eat that causes diarrhea such as nitrates (hot dogs, chicken and other processed food) i feed mine dry food for cats and supplement with veggies such as carrots or fruit such as apples, banana as they are omnivores and cat food is high in protein ( my dogs are chihuahua and dachshund) i do not give them rice or wheat. try various foods not all dogs like the same thing mine hates pumpkin. real peanut butter is a treat only. stay away from dog biscuits, bacon treats and those. they make dogs fat.

@@amandawatts2223 Yes, they give dogs water. That is absolutely a company policy and it's practiced by humane groomers who care about pets. Negligence can happen in both private and corporate environments, and that's horrible to think about, but the policy of PetSmart is ABSOLUTELY to keep dogs hydrated with a bowl of water at all times. That's a basic care and safety regulation. It sounds like this original commenter might have been in a poorly run salon. That happens, but it's certainly not supposed to.

petsmart does allow bully breeds but they have to be kept individually at all times. Do you mean he wasn't allowed in doggy day camp?

I work at petsmart and i had a lot of customers ask me if they could bring their bully breed in and I was confused at to why they would ask me because we allow all dogs unless they are very aggressive of course. I asked my manager and he said it's the store manager that makes that rule not the ceo or anything. Because if it where the we wouldn't be having bully breeds in our store eather. I love all dogs, I hope it dousnt happen To us

Mackenzie Banks My dog went to Petsmart for awhile. When she got arthritis I was told by the Petsmart groomer that she has to be able to stand. Maybe it's too much work holding them up or they dont want to injure them more. So yes, I believe they told her that

M VA I guess if you have a packed day then I could understand it but otherwise I don’t. I was taught we don’t stop the work unless someone is hurt(dog or human), overly aggressive(and if we honestly can’t do it and the owner refuses to come help) and if we have weather problems(which can be quite fluent because I’m in Oklahoma). If they’re packed that day then I would 100% understand it but to tell him he can’t come back? No I truly don’t get that just for refusing to stand. He did pretty good too, obviously that doesn’t mean he acts like that all the time but still. I don’t see a reason for a turn away.

i use revolution. never had another flea. i do my 5 once a year. 3 cats and 2 dogs. i am very happy with Revolution. it also kills ear mites.

Christina Fincham she said she'd had him on a preventive. She could've missed a dose, not got him on a strong enough preventive, etc. But I totally know what you're saying about people who just can't beleeeeeive their dog has fleas.

she might not have been informed by the vet that Sentinel doesn't actually kill fleas. Some people don't think to ask because they hear "flea prevention" and they think that's what it means. Some products also just...don't work. We went through four different treatment types for my dog not too long ago before we got him to a vet and on trifexis (which works wonders for whatever reason). Even before we got a confirmation that my dog had fleas, I didn't suspect fleas because he was biting and scratching at certain areas, so we assumed a allergen or something. And no, maybe she doesn't think fleas come in through her yard, I was taught to expect them in Florida because we had sand instead of dirt, so when I moved to somewhere with dirt in the yard I didn't even think of fleas, there was no evidence I could see! Hopefully she learns and gets her vet to give the dog a better preventative treatment.

I worry it's an abdominal tumor :/ But maybe I'm just paranoid because my previous dog had one.
