I've tried a few razors and I get the best shave with the Bevel safety razor but I use the Astra Platinum double edge blades.

I just use the Gillette Skin guard. I started using the safety razor like you but have taken some skin on my dome a few times. The skin guard; I have no issues with knicks, and lasts long enough without me constantly having to refill every other month. Now, I just use the safety razor on my face.

Make sure u sanitise ur razor sticks n blades regularly. Add about 5ml of dettol solution to ur water jug for every 2 strokes. Wash ur head regularly and use coconut oil on ur scalp to keep it smooth n hydrated.
