I ALSO USE & LOVE THIS BLOWDRY BRUSH bit.ly/30rgLgG *I only use it on low to prevent heat damage because high is way too hot
MY FAVORITE PH BALANCED SHAMPOOS & CONDITIONERS
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo bit.ly/2YClQC8
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner bit.ly/3n0FPnp
Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo (Even though I don't color my hair, this set is AMAZING) bit.ly/3H7Hsrt

Kérastase Nutritive Heat Protecting Leave-In Treatment For Dry Hair *I can't remember if this is pH balanced but I love it bit.ly/3bZJFXz
Living Proof 5-in-1 bit.ly/31PBqvr
MY FAVORITE OIL IS ARGAN OIL WHICH HAS A SMOKE POINT OF 420 DEGREES F BUT I ONLY USE IT AFTER I'VE HEAT STYLED & PREFER TO USE A DEDICATED HEAT PROTECTANT
I also love this oil for styling after using heat bit.ly/3C0W8op and this one bit.ly/3F3lp3d
This chart gives the smoke point of different oils & makes the case for not using oil as a heat protectant www.naturallycurly.com/curlre...

Thank you so much for watching! For the contrast bit, once you know if you’re low, medium or high contrast you can choose a low, medium or high contrast makeup look to match your own contrast. This will create an effortless and harmonious look :) You can also go higher or lower than your natural contrast level for a muted look or a dramatic look ❤️

The contrast part is vital. I'm cool undertones (very) and high contrast (= winter in color analysis) and low contrast cool toned makeup looks very uncomplimentary. My clothes are high contrast always and that's why a eyeshadow palette with white to charcoal grey eyeshadows and fuchsia lipstick looks much more compliantary.

1. Properly cleanse your scalp (emulsify shampoo in hands first, scrub scalp at least 60 seconds) 2. Keep PH of products between 3.5-5.5, use ph test strips 3. Blow drying can be healthier than air drying. Use a product and dry on low to medium heat 4. Use only high smoke point oils in your hair to not damage with heat products 5. Know your skins undertones so you can choose hair, makeup, and clothing colors 6. Know your skins intensity color. Low medium high for choosing colors 7. Simple and consistent is better than complicated and inconsistent routines

Dear Audrey, your channel has been so meaningful for me. I found your videos while my daughter was undergoing 126 hellish days in the NICU earlier this year. She almost died and then underwent 4 surgeries in 4 months and so many hard days... Your calming voice, positivity, and classy style have been such a great escape for me through all the stress. Not only that, but it's helped me dress in a way that helps me feel worthy of being seen as I jump through the million hoops of learning to be a special needs mom. I truly feel now that I don't HAVE to disappear behind my daughter's needs. It energizes me to put on a great outfit every day that I love! I have a RU-vid channel too so I know how meaningful it is to hear feedback from your viewers. ❤

Being a brunette w/ fair skin and cool undertones, I let my hair go naturally grey/silver/white. I "lost" my contrast and was ready to go back to coloring my hair. I found that by deepening my brows a bit, adding a little brighter blush and lipstick, all came back into balance. Thanks for this video.
@meganmoses4314
@meganmoses4314 2 года назад
Thank you for this, I have been low contrast most of my life and when I decided to stop colouring my hair I became monochromatic, the grey hair kind of greyed out my skin, left me feeling quite invisible and drab. I have been considering returning to colouring my hair for this reason only. I will try your approach first..
@tanyaeve9498
@tanyaeve9498 2 года назад
This is me, too. I also have cool undertones and went from very high contrast to less contrast when my hair grew out from dark to silver/grey. I completely agree about brows and use eyeliner and mascara, lipstick and blush are great too. I am also mindful of contrast in my outfits too.
@Iquey
@Iquey 2 года назад
If you let your hair go grey, you could even try doing like a balayage for elder hair. Highlight where you want to emphasize your greys up to a platinum, and try an ash brown mid tone to deep brown gradient lowlight, and use purple shampoo to tone cooler than brassy. I think this could look really chic. I think of this as like, a semi-natural grey look but with depth due to highlight and shadow.
@evelynbaron2004
@evelynbaron2004 2 года назад
This is interesting! I tried to go grey over the last 2 years; I have pale olive (sallow) skin and there was no contrast I just turned into a ghost. So I had my hair dyed my natural colour slightly less dark it is all about nuances that is what I took away from your experience. One day I'll go whiter than white and get some good advice about hair length etc. Just coasting for now, loved your post.
@tinamarieschaffer-sick4456
@tinamarieschaffer-sick4456 2 года назад
This describes my situation too. I'm a brunette with fair skin, my heritage is Irish, Scottish and Sicilian. The grey is popping out all over the place and I'm happy with that. I've earned my stripes, at least that's what I like to say. As I get older I embrace the changes. I'm happy in my skin but do want to look the best I can. These comments are all great tips. I cannot wear mascara because without fail I look like a raccoon, so I tint and lift them. I like low maintenance. Granted this process takes about an hour at the salon. However, I hadn't realized there are hair products for elder hair which sounds like it enhances hair color. Thanks all.

Use a heat protectant!!! So many people have the misconception that heat protectants are only helpful if you are styling your hair with heat, but it's also so important in protecting from damage from the sun. I live in sunny Texas, and using a heat protectant has significantly decreased frizz for me.

Loved your point on contrast. I’ve always gravitated towards a dramatic lip. Burgundy/vampy lips were my signature in college and I always love a good red as well. Starting my professional career was when I started to look for more natural lip shades and even within that, I gravitated towards shades that gave me more contrast. I guess it just goes well with my overall look. Idk whether your content is what you invent, lots of research, or a mix of both but it’s always so high quality and intelligently communicated. You are such a gem on this platform and I appreciate the work you do!

One thing that people might consider with their hair and skin in addition to the Ph of products, is whether their water is hard or soft. I just moved from a house with hard water and felt my hair was dry and frizzy possibly because of the water. Now my house has a water softener, and their is definitely a difference in my hair and skin.

I have over 3 feet of hair and tried that too, I desperately try anything I can to clean my scalp without being harsh on my length. My latest trick is adding a small amount of conditioner to my wet ends before shampooing my scalp, rinse all of my hair then condition the ends more thoroughly. I found this tip online and my hair feels better now. I also started carefully blow drying my roots more often where I used to only air dry and let my ends dry more naturally. I love learning new things that help while growing my hair longer. I would love to have hair as long as yours.

@@TarynToday You can add conditioner to dampened hair (shoulder down with spray bottle) 5 mins before entering the shower. I found the tangle geezer scalp exfoliating brush to be tremendous help in reaching my scalp without pulling hair (needs to be a light touch tough). I was skeptical of microfiber towels but they do make a difference.

You tested the pH of each product without water. As soon as you mix the product with water, the pH will change. Some water is more acidic and some is more basic. You would need to test your water to know if you’re getting your desired pH balance.

Thank you so much for mentioning saturation levels with colors. I rarely hear it talked about but it has been a lifechanging revelation for me. My hair is a dark taupe (dull brown), and it took me years to figure out why certain colors (including black and white) didn't look right on me. Turns out the higher saturations were making my hair look grey, which would make my skin look washed out. Greys and muted tones look best on me. I can use saturated colors as accents or specific neutrals that don't "fight" with my hair color like camel brown or jeans with a darker wash.

Oils are best used as a finishing product on the hair rather than before you blow dry. What happens when you heat oil? It fries things! A few drops run through after you hair is dry is much better and Trader Joe's 100% Argan Oil is what I would recommend.

Oil to the scalp and hair itself isn't for everyone. Be careful. The term rancid comes to mind. Just be cautious.
@lizcademy4809

I still air dry my long hair ... I don't even own a dryer! But the ends are looking quite damaged, and a tiny, tiny bit of oil helps them look smooth. My hair is very oil sensitive. I will put a tiny drop in my palm, rub my palms together (they barely feel oily), and barely touch them to my hair - just the ends. It seems like it wouldn't be enough to do anything, but it's like magic. I don't put oil anywhere near my scalp - ends only.

This video is so timely for me because I’ve just started focusing on good grooming and having a good attitude over trying to look perfect or like someone else. At 39 I’ve also finally started to embrace my natural curls in the last few months after hating them for most of my life. Learning to style and look after my curly hair has honestly been one of the best things I’ve done! 👩‍🦱 Now I just need to replace my incredibly old hairdryer (I’m hoping to get a Dyson in the sales). Also learning my colouring, contrast and body type has been really useful. I have light olive skin that is warm and muted, I have high contrast and am a soft classic (or soft blended) body type and having this information has been really helpful in choosing clothes and makeup and dressing in a more harmonious way. Embracing who I am through good grooming is also helping me to compare myself to others less often and instead focus on being the best version of myself ❤️

I can’t believe I’ve been on RU-vid for 3 years daily and haven’t found your channel till now! And your videos are 5-6 years old but still could apply easily today! Or any day! Great timeless tips!

I was learning about using a color wheel for your undertones and then avoiding the color as well as the color wheel opposite. I felt like I was a yellow - orange and needed to avoid blue - purple as well 🙈 but I think greens and reds really compliment me and I'm happy to wear them a lot. And since I am wearing fewer colors it is a lot easier to mix and match my clothes.
@purpurina5663
@purpurina5663 2 года назад
I know this may complicate things, but the key is the specific shade of each color (with the exception of some that never work -yellow and orange look awful on me too). It depends, like Audrey says, on saturation and temperature (cool-warm) as much as on the color itself. Also, materials: optic white (which is usually harsh), works well on on shirting cotton but not great on a wool sweater. In the and you find put because you put the thing on and instantly feel well dressed, like something clicks.

Great video! putting your hair in a silk or satin bonnet at night is also very helpful to keep the style and make it less frizzy.

Omg the black and white tip, thank you :) I knew I had high contrast because my features are bold, strong & striking ie eyebrows, eyes & hair color naturally beforehand… I tried the tip (very helpful!) and asked my bro & mom what they thought as well & we all came to the same high contrast conclusions. ♥️ My undertone is warm as well; seasonal analysis just got easier! I knew the moment I saw the style of how your shirt was tucked in (along with these grooming tips) lol that you were another lovely into fashion color schemes. :) It’s appreciated.

i used to always let my hair air-dry since i kept hearing that heat/blow-drying was so bad. it would always dry so blah. then i saw the study that said blow-drying your hair about 6 inch away when its about 90% or so dry is better for your hair compared to just air-drying, completely changed how my hair looks!!

you have a very calming energy and I like how uou speak at an inside voice as opposed to so many you tubers projecting their voice into the mic, it’s nicer to hear someone who speaks intentionally instead of just projecting their volume, I’m mesmerized and will be coming here to decompress after over stimulating days lolol

I know trends come and go, but I always thought good grooming is the best thing to practice. I get my brows done, so that I don't have to apply much makeup. And I find that good grooming and being presentable goes further than flashy colors or wild makeup (unless that is your style, and in that case rock it).

Love the video! What do you think of a cold water rinse for your hair. I live in a humid climate so when I take a warm or hot shower, the last thing I do, even when it’s winter, is to rinse my hair in cold water. If it’s too cold for my whole body, I just stick my head and hair under the cold water for a minute or two to make sure my hair is not steaming anymore from the hot shower and that the hair has really cooled down. I find that the texture of my hair is much smoother. Also, I take vitamins specifically for my hair and that helps too.
