albert hall explained this after the show to a reporter. he needed glasses to see and one of the lights was creating a glare they asked him to take them off. he was talking to just a blur and groucho just kept riding him till the audience was frantic but he never saw a thing. if you watch the entire episode youll see at the end he has his glasses returned to him.

That dude is one STRANGE dude! This is comedic gold!

I can remember my Mom and Dad watching Groucho year's ago, then I started watching him and understand why they were always laughing. Groucho is still funny today. His movies with his brothers are hilarious.

This guy looks like a strange cross between Shemp Howard and Art Linkletter. It was A TRULY CLASSIC & hysterical comedy segment. You can see that Groucho enjoyed it thoroughly. truly one of the funniest guests Groucho ever hit it off with.

Albert Hall was one of the best guests ever on this show. He's game and has one hell of a personality. Crazy eyed or pickle nose, he's larger than life.

I googled Albert A. Hall. The gentleman was born in 1886 and died in 1964.. His wife, Catherine M. Hall standing next to him, was born in 1892 and died in 1981.

Nobody gets Groucho's pun at 2:19. "Were you fired from your printer's job? Maybe you weren't the TYPE." 😀

The guy is clearly auditioning an act. Groucho graciously just lets him do it. The audience loved it, so why should he care? Groucho was a consummate pro.

If you watch the full episode of this, you get the distinct impression that Mr Albert Hall, despite his odd mannerisms and speech delivery, is a very nice man indeed. He's very polite and appreciative of his fellow guest, Mrs June French, who despite being just 21 and an office 'gofer', is intelligent and is the one with all answers, and she wins them the game. Incidentally, Albert passed away in August 1964, in California, and was buried in Seatle, WA.

Absolute genius. My all time favourite comedian. Sharpest mind in the game. In well over 60 years of watching his and his brothers films countless times, if they are on telly I've always had to stop and watch 'till the end.

What a guest and handled as best as anyone could he was still kind. Pure genius.

This brings back great memories. When I was a middle schooler in the late 70's a local UHF station aired You Bet Your Life, the Twilight Zone and the Honey Mooners late at night. I probably saw every episode of all three shows during those years.

I'm only 30 years old. I learned about You Bet Your Life and The Marx Bros as a 8 year old by watching reruns on TV . The Marx Brothers comedy is shockingly modern. It's timeless as evidenced by the fact that it was still being shown on television when I was 8 years old. I much prefer the old TV shows and movies to most of what we have now.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this, and continue to do so at various intervals through-out the week. As someone who grew up watching all the comedic greats of the classic B&W era, I can tell you that we would've loved seeing shorts with Mr. Albert Hall in them. He will always symbolize one of the great missed opportunities that the film world could've capitalized on and benefited from. We can only imagine what his career would've been like. Thanks to Groucho for making this a moment in time, one that we can revisit again and again.

Can you believe that this broadcast was televised more than half a century ago.....that's 61 years ago! How times have changed!!!

Watching this is like watching the Beatles in a funny kind of way. You are in awe of just how great they are. In this case, Groucho was the one who paved the road. There was no one before him. He created and everyone else followed. It is hard to even fathom that this is "the pioneer." I am completely blown away.

Classic! Yes, a master of puns so quick they can be missed. Another one I particularly love that most of the audience missed was on his hilarious What's My Line 1959 appearance, when he asked a guest "Are you a corrupt politician?" He then says: "Or am I being redundant?" Few have such genuine, razor sharp wit.

This is one of the rare times when Groucho had trouble keeping a straight face. He looked like he was going to burst out laughing a few times. Groucho's act is mostly keeping a straight face and making smart remarks, virtually never laughing or smiling himself.

We need more characters like this guy in today's world.

This one is very funny from the very first moments. My jaw dropped. I am surprised that Groucho could get away with mimicing the guest, "and how do they make MON-EY?!". That's getting personal. Mr. Hall looks like he was aware he himself was a caricature, and fair game. He was crazy-looking in his conversation with Groucho but normal and genial with his partner guest

When i was a child in our neighborhood there was a man just like him; he had the same facial expressions and body gestures for saying even ordinary things, and he always laughed loud. even when we said hello to him he'd automatically make facial expressions and body gestures just like this guy.he also had a big nose like WC Fields and big huge hands. he was a chain smoker too with the most low pitched voice, louder than lions. and his eyes opened like train head lights. he seldom yawned, and always paid complete attention to every word you'd say to him. he was the strangest yet the most interesting man I've ever met.
