Are you people serious? You credit MITCH SILVERSTEIN for repainting it? Are you kidding me. That was myself and members of Local Union 806, who VOLUNTEERED our FREE TIME to refresh and repaint that thing. It's really shitty hope the people who do the actual work in this world never get the credit.
I was at this fair in 1964 at the age of 9 with my mom and sisters. It was amazing. Still remember every minute there. Mom bought me the toy of the US Royal Tire, which ran on batteries. Don't know what happened to it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. $24M just to make it look it good. And in 10 years it will look like crap. How about a real restoration New York State? You have gobs and gobs of tax money.
The observation Towers should be fixed up real nice organize it the main floor the first .Tower should be antique store the second tower could be a huge humongous kitchen and the third .Tower to be a huge beautifully restaurant and the elevators should be very fixed up and organize it real nice if you built this thing organizing people will come to the. Restaurant and spend that luxury money on the restaurant the observation tower is back in the 64s and 65s . Then you could probably you make a huge humongous parking lot for the observation towers for the. Restaurant with nice you have tremendous and now standing view from the city going to the restaurant above the first Tower you can see the city of Manhattan the the park or Flushing Meadow Park is so beautiful if you built this place like a restaurant the first Tower and antique store the second tower a huge kitchen and a third .Tower a restaurant you'll be amazed if you build it real nice.
As a New Yorker who went to the fair 16 times as child, I'm very happy about the restoration of this beautiful attraction. I hope they keep it close to its original design.
This restoration will probably cost about $50 billion in cost overruns. Would be cheaper to demolish them and rebuild them from scratch, adding modern features. But, hey! Who am I anyway.
I think it should be re purposed, it’s part of New York’s history, how kool would it be to re light, re install the sky cars, open a Restaurant up top, I think it would drawer millions of people
I think you are absolutely right!!’ Just like “The Space Needle” has drawn millions since it was built & left up with their fabulous restaurant & it’s view plus “THE CNN TOWER” in TORONTO WITH IT’s spectacular restaurant on top, I think a restaurant at the top is an extraordinary idea! Frankly, I am surprised this wasn’t turned into a restaurant after the fair ended! I think you have a great idea, Pontiac GrandPrix73!!!! Hoping someone in charge of projects renovating the bldgs that are left of the NY World’s Fair, sees your post, they find money for this project( it absolutely would eventually make money for I guarantee people would be drawn to this restaurant!!!) & do it!♥️
I remember going up there in 1965. BTW some of the film clips are from the NY Worlds Fair sponsored 1965 Technicolor promo film TO THE FAIR, still a great movie 55 years old!
I grew up two miles from the 1964/65 World’s Fair and it was a HUGE part of my childhood. I was happy that the NYS Pavilion towers and tent were saved, and sad every time driving by the on the LIE to see them rotting away. The mosaic floor with the road map of New York State that had a red star for every Texaco gas station in the state was destroyed by years of rain freezing and thawing and all the multicolored canopy fiberglass tiles collapsed to the floor. I am very happy to see the city is putting in money to stabilize the structure and hope that someday a full restoration is done to reinvigorate this iconic symbol of the Borough of Queens in NYC.
I would love to see these totally restored back tot what it was including the obersvation and restaurant/snack bars upstairs. (perhaps one of them could be enclosed for year round seating??? I'd love to also see the pavilion brought back with the map of the world and adding rides, roller coasters etc to the whole area. I'd like to see the monorail brought back too.
How is this restoration work going? I am from Philadelphia but a huge fan of the NY Worlds Fair and of the NY State Pavilion. I have visited it twice and look forward to coming again. Did the pandemic affect this effort?
I don't know what they're doing with the 2 towers but I was part of the crew that repainted the main Pavillion back in 2015. We did it, for free, in our spare time. I actually fell on another job after doing that and had to retire, so no clue what happened with the towers
Money down the drain. Nice memory, but put the money toward something useful: hospitals, schools, libraries, parks, transportation, and so on. How much will be spent on structural repair that could go towards creation of permanent jobs?
@@mattkennedy6115 🤣🤣🤣 “Oh my gosh Matt!” I am just dying here, laughing at your clever & very funny remark! I was thinking the same thing myself when I read 🌻 “SUNFLOWERS “ definitely “NOT A VERY ☀️ SUNNY”, REMARK MIGHT I ADD (HA!) BUT I THINK “YOU PUT IT JUST PERFECTLY, MATT!” I am still laughing at your comment!😂 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋
