Agree! I don't understand why the descriptions in-game are so vague. I'd love to have been able to play through the game without feeling like I have to look up everything in a wiki.
I think it's an interesting game design decision. Annoying at times, but adds to immersion and the joy of discovery. I try to only Google things in this game as the last resort or when the resources needed are just too much to risk. You're playing a character that is trying to survive in an unfamiliar world so you as a player being subjected to a number of unknowns I feel adds to the game value. I feel like complete wiki surgical definitions of everything can help out brain to optimize the fun out of the game and reduce it all to numbers. As a software developer I find great respite in a game where everything is kind of fuzzy, and very few numbers are surfaced.
Javelineer is VERY useful if you have throwing spears alongside your main spears. It wrecks things. The only downside is finding those thrown spears afterwards lol
@@andrewlee8204 Dude, I had that happen, missed an arrow shot at a bee from the far side of the picnic table and I found that arrow at the top of the charcoal pile in the BBQ spill area.
@@andrewlee8204 I'm playing for the first time and without knowing any strategies, this became my go-to for quite awhile lol. 20 spears and I'm read to take on everything. Throwing 19 and using 1 to pray and poke
everybody needs to know that if you have 1 mutation slot left and you’re using widows fang or spider fang dagger, MOM GENES OVER ASSASSIN ALWAYS, the bleed doesn’t mean as much on those weapons as they already do poison, but mom genes buffs said poison and also summons spiderlings incredibly fast due to their high attack rates. also, spiderlings are incredibly useful against any hard-hitting enemy as not only can they distract them, but even if they don’t distract them they will still end up getting in the way and fully blocking an attack for you (a very noble sacrifice)
It's sad to see so many mutations have such a low chance of actually doing anything. And sometimes for a very mediocre effect when they actually activate.
most of them arent as low as you think. mansterious stranger has a 2% chance to proc while doing ANYTHING in battle, not just attacking. once i had 6 at the same time
The chopper is awesome very early when all you have is an ax. The shocking dismissal is great in boss fights while being attacked by several enemies, the blast will hit them all. Couple buff lungs with explorer and aphid slippers and you'll fly across the map
Cardio fan was actually pretty easy and quick to unlock and max. Keep your hunger low so it keeps your stamina bar maxed at 50%. Then chop or use a bow. takes about 3 hits to deplete stamina, rinse and repeat.
For cardio fan, you can just spam heavy weapons and blocking. It counts for draining your stamina bar and you can do it basically instantly over and over as soon as you get a club or even a hammer.
daredevil actually just allows for a "cap" of fall damage to be reached. you can fall from unlimited distance, and it will only hurt you so much. and it stacks with Gnatchos fall defense buff too! if i need to post a clip, lemme know.
Just a heads up assassin in my opinion is one of the best builds becuase with lvl 1 assassin you will always inflect bleed that does 30 dmg over 5 seconds but at max lvl it does 75 dmg as well as lowers enemy’s resistance to bleed by 25% put that with the black widow dagger late game or wolf spider dagger for the venom makes most things easy to kill
I just beat the game, so now I'm finally looking up tips and things I missed. I used Chopper through the entire game and now find out it was basically useless lol
Don't underestimate a full fist build. Fire Ant armor/boots + broodmother helmet + Fire Ant Shield Power Droplet (More fist damage + fists inherit all weapon mutations that are equipped such as Assassin and so on) Lil Fist Truffle Tussle Coup De Grass Assassin Whatever other mutation (PEEP.R for better crit damage, Chopper for extra staggers on top of Coup De Grass, or a block effect like Shocking Dismissal or Parry Master, whatever) This build = fists that do decent starting damage, can lower enemy defense and also has high % chance stacking damage buffs + crits, adds multiple dots with bleed, poison and explosive AoE poison clouds, and another AoE crit variant via infected explosions, and then has an extra mutation slot for whatever else you want on top of that. Fists have only decent damage but attack speed close to, though more stamina usage, as daggers - but with these stacking effects fights can snowball unbelievably fast in your favor. One of my favorite builds (I call it Petey Marciano, Rocky Marciano reference) alongside Candalf (The usual Whittle Wizard mutation + some complimentary ones, Wizard Hat + Ox armor/legs for the charge speed, usually Compliance Badge just because I am a parry beast and I love the heals even after the nerf, but whatever you want).
I think Apex pred with the club is very strong for farming the Mantis after the first kill. Since you can poison it with the venom debuff and as soon as you see its health drain you can just run and hide until the ten seconds are over. Just repeat that until it is poisoned to death. Since some of its melee attacks cant be blocked for me this was very easy even though im not really good at the game :)
I'm devastated. I just found out that parry master doesn't increase the window for perfect blocks anymore. I've still been using it instead of actually useful mutations because I have grub armor rn.
Go to the pond and get the koi scales and make koi armour. It gives bigger perfect block windows, just be careful, it's not as good as the ladybug armour. Also you can throw a red ant club at ladybugs to kill them without agro, it'll still make sound tho
Mediocre milton made a short on it at some point, but pretty much only throw the red ant club, its some kind of weird glitch. Also if you hit the ladybug with the red ant club and then let it deaggro then try to throw the red ant club again at it, it'll aggro anyway and the glitch doesn't work, so from the get go make sure you don't hit the wrong key and attack it, only throw it.
@@thymerhemann3230 oh also, if you get good at perfect blocking and you learn the creatures attacks then the koi armour is better, the lady bug armour is better tho for less experienced players
Just a correction: you CANNOT be wearing a shield to unlock/upgrade the lil fist mutation. I was having trouble getting it yesterday until I read a Reddit comment explaining this.
@@MediocreMilton Strange. I killed 60 or so mites with a ladybird shield on until I realized something wasn’t right. Googled it and a Reddit comment mentioned to try it without a shield and that worked for me.
As a note for Shocking dismissal: idk if it was intentional or not but it seems to work with perfect blocks as well. Would that make it any better? Keep in mind I've play tested this in 1.0 so I have no idea if this was fixed since I've just started equipping other mutations instead
If your fighting more than 1 enemy at once that means more blocks so more chance to proc. Its kinda neat to use this with truffle tussle or the pinch whacker for aoe damage. You can also include the helmet from the broodmother to have an aoe poison cloud so you would be an aoe machine with all those options together
Truffle Tussle is for fists only, doesn't work with weapons. It's great for fists-only playthrough, and has AoE damage. It procs separately from (and sometimes together with) Shocking Dismissal, which can make for very visual fights.
There is a Tier List video format for topics like this where you grab icons and drop them into the color coated different tier ranks for a better visual aid. Next time you gotta do that. It's funny how some of these perks can change wildly from buffs/nerfs or being bugged or getting fixed. I honestly was using most of the weapon perks because they matched the weapons I was using and I thought there could be some extra benefit beyond what the wiki said; not anymore after this. I don't understand why they'd make Javelineer or Assassin so much better than the rest of them. I didn't bother with Natural Explorer because you said it was game breakingly bugged in some old video, but things changed. S: Natural Explorer (Always) , Javelineer (Situational), Assassin (Situational), Juicy (Woe Mode Or Situational), Guard Dog (Situational Life Saver) Mithridatism (Situational Life Saver), Spicy Safety (Situational Life Saver) A: Meat Shield (Early Game), Buff Lungs (Early Game), Ant-nihilator (Situational), Cardio Fan (Always), Reliable Friend (Coop), Fresh Defense (Situational Life Saver), If I have 5 slots I should run it like this most of the time ignoring spear/dagger builds: 1. Natural Explorer [Meat Shield (Early Game)] 2. Cardio Fan [Buff Lungs (Early Game)] 3. Juicy or Spicy Safety 4. Fresh Defense or Ant-nihilator or Mithridatism 5. Free Slot Extras (Guard Dog, Merteen, etc.) I didn't know about Spicy Safety until this video. I might just run that by default for Bee & Mosquito protection alone.
@@MediocreMilton maybe just have the tier list at the end of the video. just as a visual aid to help sum up how you feel about the different things at the end. That way it's "out of the way" but still present. Idk, just a suggestion.
I'm not great at combat but i love grinding, so my team helped me make a "camp mom" build. Level 9 clover armor, Billy hog trinket, juicy mutation and level 5 comfort. I almost never need food and water and I run the farm and make smoothies as well as all of the other big base chores. With my level 9 tiger rapier and the heal from the clover, as well as the bandages and roasts i make, I'm surprisingly not shite in combat either as long as I play support not tank. With 4 stacks of regen, I heal almost as fast as I catch my breath.
Fun fact everyone in the 1.4 update these weapon related perks now have mastery bonuses (unlocked at level 3 because well max level is mastery) so i guess you can say he can make an updated version of this video if he wants
Thanks for the info I've been using a lot of the mutations that suck thinking they were benefiting me when I could have used the other better mutations.
Balde Master right now Is really good for fighting black Windows with a sour tick machete plus the life steal makes it better not only that if You have a tier 3 shield plus the life steal You barely need heals or very low heals which Is good for fighting bosses
Great video thx much! If I may to suggest something, next time try to use images and numers to appear on the screen when you are talking about weapons and telling us their details. I thonk i would take it to another level
Just wondering with daredevil is it possible to activate it while you’re falling? Like depending on how long it takes to hit the ground it would be possible right?
Also with the 1% chance to summon the mant with mansterious stranger, it might be a good idea to use high speed weapons to increase chances of mant allies spawning
Reliable friend is the best. Through the dangerous trenches in the haze, the dark, eerie undershed, and the underground maze-like dungeons, it is nice to know that your reliable friends have your back in the dangerous adventure through the yard.
Most mutations are trash And a lot used to be amazing very frustrating making a game that by nature is pretty difficult and taking away any reward that would help smh
@@Moman313 correct, all those harvesting mutations should be active constantly, limit us to 3 or 4 combat mutations, but keep the gathering and exploration mutations on always. And they definitely need a buff.
But why is it that the barbarian as soon as I use it it gives this pink cloud and stuns Damm near any enemy after 3 hits or one combo it's fuckin op as shit with a 5/10 broodmother club
@@AdrienDessimoz I'm at 7/10 I legit stun termites and fucking mauled a black widow loosing only half health with maybe 20 percent preparation and I killed a whole set of them aka 4 just with barbarian and 7/10 broodmother club seems like people don't know how to use barbarian
I can't unlock Apex Predator. I've killed the broodmother and mantis multiple times. This is in a game that I've played from early pre-release stages, so I'm not sure if it's related to having killed the broodmother many times before release. Has anyone else had this problem?
I actually unlocked whittle wizard on accident through a bug. I was trying to get all mutations and I was punching to death for lil fist and it gave me whittle wizard instead
I'm guessing "proc" means 'engage', just so you know, these skills "proc" a lot more than you give them credit. When I use Mant, it spawns two at a time multiple times in a battle. They come in very handy to take aggro off of you when you get jumped or doing the MIX.R challenges
S tier is highest tier. So it's the best. Proc stands for programed random occurance. When a skill has a random chance to happen and it happens, it has "proced"
Lmao! Would I use unarmed, prob not. Chopper, garbage, never use it. Worthless. Devs: 😳 I know this came out first, and was true but I loved hearing it after that unarmed charm came out.
After watching this entire video it sounds like this guy hates nearly every mutation and probably zips around the yard with a spear only as those are the only two benefits he’s taking. This honestly isn’t even that good, is what he says about every mutation which should include this video.
i feel like the murations is a great idé but for whatever resson the devs just made them absolutly useless and grindy af to get them, the majority of them are just pure garbage or very mid where i bearly pay any mind to them and play without them
I’m sorry but what I’m hearing is “4100-200 kills” and that makes no sense. please slow down or at least use subtitles I can barely understand half of this
people underrestimate mansterious stranger soooo much. its the best mutation in the game. i dont think people realise that ANYTHING you do procs it. like blocking, parrying, getting hit or attacking like literally anything procs it. ive had 6 at once before and literally destroyed the orchid mantis with it
Pretty much. The bonuses most provide are so small you won’t notice them. Outside of a few situational uses the only ones you can feel or see a difference are Natural Explorer, Buff Lungs and Meat Shield.
Wow I didn't realise how underwhelming the stagger effect for Chopper actually is, it's just a little animation effect that interrupts the target. About the only enemies this would be useful against are ones with big wind-ups like the stinkbug or bombadier, to maximise your chances of actually interrupting something useful when the effect procs. Other bugs like spiders it would be VERY risky to try and interrupt their combos or wind-ups unless you're exceptionally good at blocking. I'd even go as far as saying this mutation might be kind of broken, since it would explain my experience of spiders and larva occasionally dropping straight into another attack sequence as the stagger could interrupt their "move around and wait a bit" sequence.
It's funny how they balance the better weapon mutations by making virtually none of them exist. Why there isn't like a Ladybird Larva Dagger or something to bridge Spider dagger and Widow dagger is beyond me. Or they could've make the tick weapon a dagger. There's only one spear per tier to make use of the javelineer mutation. They really need to make a pass through to clean up shitty mutations. I played REALLY early on but didn't go very far, only recently picked up again a few weeks ago so I missed all the nerfs to the good mutations. But it's absurd that they nerf those so significantly and then leave bad ones in the dust. Make blademaster increase stun damage of swords or something, it's really not that hard or gamebreaking to give each weapon type a mutation that actually has some real benefit...
