Grounded from our iphones! Parenting is the worst job ever!

Emma and Ellie's Family

Well our day did not go very well and by the end of this video you will see why. Parenting is the hardest part of my life to say the least. I always struggle with what is right and what is wrong when making choices for my kids. I am not very good at following through so I am currently working on that myself. Ellie ends up grounded and well Emma is not that far off from her but I will say after her sister's iphone was taken she quickly seen we were not playing around. Do you like the way your parents parent you? Or do you like how you are currently parenting? Let me know in the comments.

Honestly I like these kinds of videos, thank you for filming your family's adversities and explaining to us how you parent and discipline Emma and Ellie. As someone in college, I can learn from these situations and see how to treat my parents better and also how I can parent in the future. Thank you, Heather!

I honestly wish my parents put their foot down with me more. I was always great in school and I was a dancer, but during high school they let me do anything I wanted. When I got my license I started going out with friends a lot more and was doing the bare minimum in school just to pass. Come senior year, I didn’t get into any schools. Now I’m 22 and so lost with life, while all of my peers are having the time of their lives in college or have graduated already and are on to bigger and better things. Listen to your parents guys, you’ll thank them later...trust me.

When I was Ellie’s age I had a Gameboy advance and later got a DSi and a Wii. I got my first iPod touch 4th generation when I was in middle school. I was in 9th grade when I got a phone. It had no social media on it. Only texting. Got a real phone 2 years later and it was pretty crappy.

my problem when i was a freshman in hs and doing competitive cheer was time management. i focused on being on my phone and hanging out with my friends and wanting to cheer instead of doing school work. i stopped cheering because i realized thats not what i was going to be doing for college. my education was the most important thing. high-school is hard especially freshman yr bc its soo different from what you know. emma will eventually realize whats important

I’m the same age as Emma. I have a job and I have straight A’s. As soon as I get home from school I work on homework. When it’s fresh in my mind. I don’t do my homework in my room because I get easily distracted. I don’t keep my phone with me either because it will distract me. Usually once I have all of that done is when I do the fun things. I think it’s important for Emma to do some of these. I get where she has a lot of stress but freshman year is just the beginning of high school and it’s not going to get easier. I suggest using a planner and writing down your subjects EVERYDAY. write down what you did in that class so you remember. that’s helped me SO MUCH! I hope Emma can get back on track :)

You are doing the right thing. Homework goes first, fun goes second. She needs to focus and stop procrastinating or she will have problems with college afterwards. And college is close for Emma. This days kids are addicted to phones.
@katrinarector9330
@katrinarector9330 5 лет назад
dude for real! I never had half the technology they have now (I'm 21) and I would always do my homework on time for the most part and if I didn't it wasn't because of social media or my phone. So many kids these days are so addicted to their phones and part of the problem is some parents expose them to things like iPads from the day they are born so they get used to being so reliant on technology.

Don't have commitments if you can't keep it up, I think it's time for Emma to have a break from cheer and focus on her homework, she has too many things to get done in a day cheer, youtube, homework, etc. It's time to prioritize the important things first and then the other things. She has too many commitments
@katrinarector9330
@katrinarector9330 5 лет назад
It is not about having too many commitments.... It is about her being addicted to her phone. There are so many people her age that do TWO SPORTS as well as other school related things and they are able to still maintain a good GPA or even honor roll. If she stopped cheer, she would still procrastinate. It has NOTHING to do with her commitments because she has had so many chances to quit both if she wanted to.

I literally force myself to stay off my phone on a day to day basis. This just made it even more clear that these phones are so toxic. We loose focus on what’s important in this world. When I spend a week off my phone I am the most productive and in the moment, living life to the fullest... it truely brings me back to my childhood, where the only technology we had was a Nintendo 😂 and I looove reminiscing on those days cuz that’s when I did the most with my life. You can’t reminisce being behind a screen 🤦‍♀️ That is something I stand by every day, which motivates me to turn the Fkn thing off (excuse my French)

Can’t wait till Emma has a job and goes to college. I work everyday except the two days I go to school (which are Monday and Tuesday) from 7am to 11pm. I skate Monday’s from 7:30pm to 10pm after my college classes which end at 5pm. I drive an hour and a half to and from school two days a week. I have a full reason why I’m behind in school but I still get it done. It’s prioritizing!

Emma & Ellie, I just want to tell you what I learned after growing up thinking my moms either "too hard" or "mean" or "controlling". Girls it's her caring!!! My mom REFUSED to let anyone's older sibling pick me up. I couldn't figure out why. Or she would say no to a simple sleepover. I thought wow she's controlling I can't do anything. I hate living with her. She's ruining my life etc.. I'm now 23! And I've realized she did those thing not to be mean to me not to fight with me not to genuinely upset me. There's REASONS BEHIND EVERYTHING, getting school done early is so you can enjoy the day stress free or the week if it's a pack. If you need help JUST ASK. I found myself at 23 needing my mom WAAYY more. So don't ever think one day you won't need her cause you ALWAYS will. Realize she'd give YOU the last slice of bread and not eat herself just to know her babies are feed. Same with school she hard on homework so you guys can get good grades and so you don't fall behind and so you don't stress. That's why she has to stick to her work and be the "mean one" when really she's helping a lot. Your see it soon!! Emma if you get more credits than needed a year, YOU CAN GRADUATE EARLY AND BE DONE! I DID!! 🎓🎓 I was still able to walk with my class like everyone else and get my diploma! In my school if you were not passing all grades the program after school like cheer got a call and would MAKE me do my homework and sit out. I hated it, I felt embarrassed, but it helped. If I failed a class I would get cut. Even if it's not associated with the school. And saying no to a sleepover, I know your bored but take into consideration, what if mom doesn't feel good or she has a migraine? What if she doesn't feel good enough to have someone's else child as another responsible incase anything happens or even if it's just a bad day. She's not doing it to be mean and bossy. Again REASONS BEHIND EVERYTHING. RBE!! I hope you got something from this, and remember don't be scared to ask for help.♥️ Much love Brooke.

I know most family channels wouldn't share something like this but I appreciate you sharing because the way Emma isn't getting her homework done when she should reminds me of my 15 yr old self doing that didn't get me very far in life and I've had a huge wake up call the past couple of months and I hope that Emma learns from this. Thank you Heather for sharing.

I’m just gonna say this.... your ‘examples’ of what other peers do come off as comparing us to people we aren’t. I’m 15 turning 16, my parents do it a lot, and it really hurts, it makes me feel like I’m not good enough, but when I say they are comparing me, they say exactly what you say, ‘no they are just examples’. But mostly everything else I do agree with you, Emma for sure has her priorities off. Ellie doesn’t need a phone at her age, it’s going to ruin her at that age. I got one in 8th grade, and all I used it for was calling mom and dad, Snapchat and instagram, but I still always got my work done before social media. I think cheer for sure needs to go for Emma though, that’s the problem no matter how much she denies it.
@naominicole369

Emma its just gonna get harder. School doesn’t get easier. Homework comes first that means if you have a ton of homework and cheer which is more important school work is so cheer gonna have to wait. Heather your a great momma don’t be soft with them. Then there gonna think they can run all over you. And Ellie shouldn’t yell at you! Your the mom there the kids. The fact that she yelled at you and said its her phone says alot. Your the Boss, Two or three days away from the phone honestly in my opinion isn’t long enough. Thats just me. Prayers things get better. Love yal truly do

Heather you’re doing great! I’m in college and if Emma didn’t have you. She wouldn’t make it to college. School only gets harder from here! Emma has to learn to be a well rounded student. It is best to be consistent with the rules. That way they always know what to expect. But show the example and learn the school work with them if you don't understand it. That's what i did with my kid's. And it was actually a great bonding experience and it showed that I was willing to learn something new.

I'm a sophomore in high school and I am also a competitive dancer. I also go to a private school which is very rigorous. I dance every week, 4 days a week. Sometimes 5, 6, or 7 depending if we have competition or extra practice. I dance for 4 hours on monday, 1.5 tueday and wednesday and 3 on thursday. Yes there are some days where I am up late because of my hectic schedule but I prioritize getting my work done. I have like a 20 min break when I get home, then I work on my homework, no phone. I think what you are doing is great. When she'll see how putting her phone down and being diligent will help her, hopefully she will take those tools and use them on her own in-turn making her proud of herself. It also helps with keeping straight A's because you are getting work done on time and doing it correctly.

I appreciated that my dad gave me the benefit of the doubt most of the time and I was never grounded before. He let me grow as a teenager and let me learn from my mistakes and never used what I enjoy as punishment that could be taken away. He is a single parent with 3 kids and whenever something would go wrong he comforted us with open arms. He knew our mental health and happiness was WAY more important than being “the perfect child” or any kind of grade. As an adult he is my absolute best friend and I don’t resent him for anything.

Sometimes as a parent you have to ground your kids though otherwise they won't learn. My mom didn't ground me for the most part unless I did something really bad. I didn't have an issue with electronics or anything like that so I wasn't as technology reliant as so many kids these days are.

You’re doing great Heather. Im 21 now and appreciate and know that my mom would take my phone away for GOOD REASONS!! One being that it would distract me from the real world!!! Social media sucks it takes away our time! They’ll be mad a few days but they love you. Everything will be ok ❤️

I struggled with school at getting my work done at her age, and it made me SO behind in school and it will catch up with her in high school. Trust me she does not want to be taking freshman classes her junior or senior year because she couldn’t pass it. It is not how I wanted my high school career to go, but I worked so hard and did it online and now I have no classes I need to make up my senior year and am ahead on my credits and went and also worked for my CNA license. You are doing great momma. I wish I had a mom like you, my parents don’t care. I have done everything on my own. You go heather♥️

I love that u guys show these raw moments in life. People on youtube always try to conceal the real things that may happen in life but personal I love seeing videos like these bc they are never planned. Y’all are just living life and sometimes life comes with these ups and downs. I can rlly relate to what’s going on with Emma and Ellie and Heather you as a parent are handling it very well. I applaud this family for sharing to real things that happen in life bc life isn’t all fun and games. I hope things get better soon ❤️

I'm 15 turning 16 in two weeks and I'm sophomore. Last year and in middle school I procrastinated on all my work and ended my year with so many missing assignments, now I've brainwashed myself to do my homework as soon as I get home, ask for help, and not take C's. I now have a 4.0 GPA (97.5) and I'm proud of myself. All it took was for me to realize how important school really is and I think Emma will realize it her sophomore year also

I’ve been struggling with time management as well. I have an after school job and then I go to the gym right after. Something that I usually do is once I’m home from the gym i her right started on my homework when it’s fresh in my mind from that day and get it all done before at least 9:00. Then I enjoy and go on my phone after. I eat in the middle of that or I’ll eat late. It works for me and I go to bed 10:30 or 11:00 the latest so I hope everything works out for Emma and Ellie! And you’re doing a great job heather. My parents aren’t really on my right now as I’m a junior in high school but they were on me as a kid which made me do better now and now I manage and figure it out all by myself. Good luck!

I remember when I was in 4th grade and the teacher was telling me I would fail the grade if I didn’t pass math, we were doing fractions then. I was failing because I couldn’t do math then and I can’t do it now. Some people just can’t do math the way others struggle to read because of things like dyslexia and ADHD. I’m not sure what my problem was but I know now, as an adult, there was definitely something wrong and it was my parent’s fault for blaming me for everything instead of having the problem addressed. I can’t imagine the stress of having sports, a 1000$ cell phone to distract you 24/7, AND math. It seems almost too much for a 10 year old to handle. Anyway, I’m not trying to suggest anything, I was just relating my story because when you were talking about Ellie’s school work I had a flashback to when I was her age and I was struggling with school work too. I remember feeling more frustrated then I had in my whole life. I don’t think it’s natural for a kid that age to have to experience stress of that level. It doesn’t seem fair. I hope they’re doing better now! They’re good kids and I hope you can guide them to being more responsible and not procrastinating school work all the time. I did the exact same thing as a kid and that’s why I failed all classes all the time, and sadly, I didn’t have good parents like you and Mark to step in and put me back on the right path. We can’t expect children to make the right decisions all the time, they have much less life experience than adults and their brains are not fully developed yet, so try not to feel too hurt that they’re mad at you for taking away phones and making them do their school work. They may not understand now, but they’ll be grateful someday when they can get into college because you made them keep their grades up. Stay strong ❤️

Don’t worry about Ellie getting mad at you heather, she needs to understand that it’s absolutely not right to act out like that. She shouldn’t even have a phone to begin with as she’s only 10 years old, it’s almost like an addiction to her for what I’m hearting and that’s not good. They can’t be mad at you forever, they literally need you for everything

Don’t give in! I know it’s hard but you are doing the right thing. They will get over it. If the nasty attitudes don’t improve, take the phones for longer. Kids these days, mine included, think they can’t make it without constant entertainment. We looked out the car window and it didn’t kill us. It won’t kill them either. Have a great weekend!

Not that I’m happy you are going through this but I’m definitely using this video as an example for my own daughter who I’m currently going through this with. Just so you know, you are not alone. I applaud you for what you are doing. Yes be consistent and stick with it. It’s really tough, but girl, we are going to get through this and our children will be better for us sticking it out and being real parents. Surely we are not alone in this parent-child bump in the road phase. I’m staying optimistic and I hope you are too!!

High school is all about learning how to time manage and balance responsibilities. There are plenty of kids way busier than Emma who still get their homework done on time and participate in extra curriculars. There’s nothing wrong with being busy, but it’s not a lifestyle for everyone

I 100% agree with what you did kids need to get all their school work done and in today's worlds kids are on there phones way too much these days, Cell phones are not everything there is a great and wonderful world outside where there is no tech. Education is the must important in life and also time management and organizing your life in a way it does not make you lose your mind. I agree with what you did hold to it. Got to love it when kids say that's my phone no I pay the bill and I paid for the phone so its my phone. A phone is not something you need its what you want. I grow up with when the internet just came out with dial up and no cell phones or smartphones yet. there is a whole world outside of everything tech. HIGH FIVE

I really like when you talk to the camera. My niece is 14 and she’s addicted to her phone. She has a horrible teenage attitude which I try to check her whenever I’m around. With my 5 year old son I’m trying to put in his head now before it’s too late the phone tablet all that comes last if homework is done toys are cleaned up and if by the end of the night you have any time you can play for 10 min tops if it’s 8 it’s bed time try again tomorrow lol.

They have it pretty good.

I currently have my phone taken for a little while. I haven't talked to my parents in a while just because I'm mad at them. But getting my phone taken is a good thing, to be honest. I have gotten all of my grades up and I am doing my homework a lot more. When I had my phone I was always distracted at texting my friends trying to hang out and such and now I have caught up with all my missing homework. So good job Heather put that foot down its a good thing. Emma and Ellie will be mad but they will learn to get over it just like I did.
