Sadly, equestrian sports are not well known in Vietnam, but luckily, I have found a pony club right in Saigon so i'm gonna take a riding lesson when the Covid gets better. My neighbor is teaching me, a total noob. Showing up after hearing you out she thinks I know way more than I actually do. Just rode for the first time in 40 years... And felt great! The relationship building and body language material, I think, is amazing! The mention of patience and confidence matches up exactly with training over my life. No hurries here! I find it a great pleasure to walk my dog and meet up with the horses out here. They sure do love treats and my glove brush. Can't leave home without it! hi! i just got my first horse!! he is so sweet but very skittish as he his a rescue and still young. i like to just pet them and groom then for bonding. teach them that you are a safe person. if they ever gets spooked around something or someone, let them take a moment to stop and see and smell their surrounding before moving past that. don’t ignore the things that they are afraid of. acknowledge it and talk them through it until the scary thing is passed. for example if there is a lawnmower passing and your horse is getting spooked say something like “ i see it too it’s okay, your okay” while petting them. they learn from pressure and the release of it so make sure to apply pressure until the do what you ask and release it and reward them after so that they know they did a good job. please ask any questions i am happy to answer!!
I would recommend taking riding lessons and not just one or two you need them the entire time you want to have or ride horses. Just because you need to know how to ride them
This is an amazing video! I'm looking after a 16"2 thoroughbred and this gives me so much insight on how to communicate my space and boundaries to him more effectively! it's so important to establish "my space" with these big bois XD
Can you do the quizzing a non-equestrian video? I love watching your videos they are very helpful for both myself and my horse. I got my horse cricket in January 2021 and he had zero ground manners because he was a race horse then a trail horse before we bought him and no one taught him any. He used to try to push me around and run me over and now he will follow me around the arena and move off my body movements! We are having a little trouble with the stop but it is much better then it used to be. Thank you for making these videos they are very helpful!

I have taught many horses and people. Back in the day most people had their beliefs of this and that. I truly believe a solid foundation on the ground with your horse or any horse you are about to ride. Even when I had a fully trained horse, ground work before the ride was a MUST to always check in to see how the horse was feeling that day as you never know what saber toothed butterfly may have scared them in the night and sent your horse into lame town .... I have a yearling that I am just starting to work with. He's new to everything, about 90% halter broke. I've never trained a horse before, but I know I want to get started on groundwork to give him a really good start before even thinking of saddling him. He's a wacky, hyper teenager and I'm anxious myself, so I am having some trouble

I've only rode horses during vacations, and now I'm responsible for 100% care of two draft horses. One retired stud - totally green.......and one worked pulling. Neither know even lunging nor were ridden. . Challenging? A huge understatement. Even my trainer struggles with one.

Can you make a video ALL about cantering? Teaching your horse to canter on the ground and while riding/ how to ride a canter? Love your videos they're so helpful! :)
@@shelbyadkins3594 For wrong lead, if you're doing laps around the arena at a canter, ask for the canter on one of your turns instead of a straight away. So get to the trot, and then when their head turns in the direction you want for the bend, ask for the canter. They should give almost a hop feeling before breaking into the canter, but they should be on the right lead. reward them when they get it and try to get it at least twice in the session so they know it's what you want. It's not quite the right method to get it, but it'll help teach them that picking up the right lead is easier and that they can't turn on the wrong lead.

I'm restarting my twh mare that I got over the summer. She was very stubborn and would fight against a bit. She leads and behaves like an angel on the ground until I send her out for lunging. Then she goes nuts, yanks the lunge line from my hands and runs circles until I get her to stop! Everything else on the ground she does nicely. Unfortunately, after just about a week into restarting her, I had to take some time off due to my health. Hoping to use some of these exercises when I'm able to get back out there!🤞🏻

Carmella- it is not disengaging the horses hindquarters.. It actually -is , engaging and powering up their inside hind leg. It is much more accurate to call it ,' Untracking,' .. The great 1750's era horseman Francxois De la Guerrineirre called it engaging the horse hindquarters. de la Guerrinierres teaching became the basis for the training that is taught by todays Spanish Riding School in Vienna. It doesn't get much more ,' classical dressage than that." best Bruce Peek
It's just because her hair is so thick. If you hog the mane it will grow to a point where it will just naturally stick up before it grows long enough to flip over the neck.

What do you do if the applying pressure until they step forward isn't working? I just bought a mini horse, he's about 11 months old and if I apply any pressure he fights, to the point where he will throw himself on the ground like a toddler and have a tantrum. He's never been worked with.

How can i have a stronger bond with my horse/what are the best bonding exercises to do with my horse when i can't see him very often? I got my horse in January and I was planning on bringing my horse to my property in April but sadly that has not been able to happen. The place where i am boarding him i am only able to get to once sometimes twice a week and its usually for riding lessons so i don't enough quality time with him or a lot of time to do any ground work which i rly want to do with him. I just want our bond to be stronger so it feels more like a partnership.
Hi! Question, please! When disengaging the hind end, the struggle I have is my horse invades my space with his shoulders. So if he’s antsy or spooking, this approach can quickly turn into him shoving into my space and running me over with his front. Like he moves his hind around quickly and drastically, so all of a sudden he’s pointed at me in front. Any tips on how to prevent this? Thanks!!
hi my horse used to do the same thing!! i found that after disengaging the hind end if they invade your space immediately back them up. my horse didn’t respond to pressure on his shoulder so i found that if i wiggle the lead rope in front of him to back it up and make the wiggle bigger until he listens. if this doesn’t work to back him up move the wiggle higher up to their face to get their attention. also if your horse is invading your space sort of bump their nose with your hand (make it seem like they just ran into you) and not hard but hard enough for them to feel it and stop doing it. hope this helps
Hi, my horse already starts to bite me when I want to disengage het hind legs, how should I deal with that? I must say that she is already defensive in some areas up on touch so I will work on that also. You mention short sessions of 15 min max, but do I need to repeat all the excersizes already learned before we move to the new one? I'm going to check out your online learning now 😄
Hey! How can I effectively desensitize my horse's ears? My horse is very docile and I can work with him for almost anything, I've even started some tricks, but his ears are totally untouchable; and I don't think the whip would do much, hes very reactive about his ears, he will back down and raise his head way high, and he probably wont like the whip being that high in his face either... idk, any tips?? He probably has some sort of trauma with his ears

Disengaging high-end?... I did that the other day with my horse and to be honest I had no idea it was a thing. For me it was just a way to play or do something, I didn't even know why I was doing it. You skipped the first steps: haltering, leading on a loose lead, stopping, and standing still on a loose lead. What youare doing assumes the horse will do all of the above

I HAVE BEEN AWAY FROM HORSES FOR AWHILE NOW..WE PURCHASED 2 FOR OUR GRANDDAUGHTERS. MY CONCERN IS THEY'RE BARREL HORSES. WHISKEY THE 15YR OLD MARE FELL GOING AROUND A BARREL. Right now they have diagnosed her with narrowing of her spinal cord in her neckI have the xrays and she was supposed to go on meds. So depends if you want her to go on them and see if it helps. If it does she can go on them long term...WOULD LOVE YOUR OPINION. I WANT TO DO SOME GENTLE STREACHING..JUST WONDER YOUR THOUGHTS?
I have watched a few of your ground work videos. My foal is just 3 months old. At what age do I start all this? This is my 1st horse. She was rejected by her mom and I have been bucket feeding her since birth. I do own the mom as well. (These are my boyfriends horses and I'm new to horses)
