This week marks 80 years since the D-Day invasion, where American paratroopers played a key role in what was a turning point in World War II. Now, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is preparing to honor their sacrifice.

There is a D-Day Museum in the town of Arromanches-les-Bains, Normandie, France. The official name of the museum is Musee Du Debarquement. The museum is loaded with military uniforms, old letters, memorabilia, films to watch, etc. The original museum was built in the 1950's, but has been remodeled, updated, new exterior, and expanded as of 2023. There is also a 360 Circular Cinema, a place to watch extended footage, news reels, movies, and historical films about that time period.

I've been to that museum and its fantastic! To anyone reading this, I would also recommend the Airbourne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Église, The Utah Beach Landing Museum, the Overlord Museum in Colleville-sur-Mer, as well as Les Invalides in Paris.

The bit of newsreel film of German soldiers firing at Paratroopers at 1:08 is actually from the Battle of Arnhem. It's from a germam propaganda film showing SS soldiers shooting at British paratroopers.

I’m likely alone in saying this but I will not accept any D Day remembrance involvement of any republican. 80 years ago, men fought and died to free the world from tyranny and oppression and I feel that it is imperative that we honor their sacrifices by standing up to the fascism and authoritarianism that the right wing now embraces. Modern republican politicians have almost uniformly come out in support of Donald Trump who has approvingly quoted Hitler and seeks a dictatorship if he returns to office and to see republicans in a photo op commemorate D Day when their party leader is an avowed admirer of the worst mass murderer in history is obscene to me.

We should be remembering D-Day every day. These few men who are left and the sacrifices of all who made D-Day happen deserve to be commemorated all week. The end of the clip said they are covering the events all week.
