GROUPER & JACK - EXOTIC LONG ISLAND NY SALTWATER FLY FISHING - BLUEFISH & RARE SPECIES!!! WOW! I think you all heard that before but I have 2 good "WOW" moments in this video! I caught 2 exotic Long Island species of fish I have never caught before in 1 video! The day started with a needlefish which was pretty cool. I see them all the time but don't really catch them. A bunch of snapper bluefish on the day kept it busy and my flies trimmed short. I soon picked out a jack type fish which was way cool to see! I had a few other jack type fish (almaco and rudderfish) if I remember right but never this particular species. It went on. More snapper bluefish with puffers mixed in. Then if things can't get better picked up a grouper on the fly! I am pretty sure it was some kind of grouper or bass if you know exactly what kind of fish these are in particular please leave a comment. And of course there were plenty of sea bass. 2 Rare exotic Long Island fish species in one day. Jack & Grouper. Wow, just "WOW!!!" Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way!

Love the style of your videos and how they’re done, they’re educational and they teach lessons without nescessarily being directly about the subject. Your commentary and excitement to catching even small fish lifts spirits. You’re a great guy and please keep up the salt fly fishing :) PS: what weight rod?

Excellent video now im very curious,,I haven't tried this form of fishing as of yet ,, but I'm aware that all saltwater fishes eat insects ,,my 3 questions are 1- with the sinking line how often do you suffer with hang ups / loosing flies 2- how effective is it for the big porgies specifically being my favorite,, 3- how deep depth wise can one fish with it ? Thanks blessings to all..

Hey Jerry, I'm not sure who had more fun....you fishing or me watching it. Looks like you caught a horse-eye or goggle eye jack, according to "McClane's Field Guide to Saltwater Fishes of North America". He said this species has been found in the Manasquan River in New Jersey, but did not mention Long Island. It's pretty close, though. On the second mystery fish, look at black and yellow rockfish. Only thing, they are found in California, not there.

Absolutely Awesome! Couple quick questions Jerry. What weight Rod were you using here? Looks like a 5 or 6 wt. Did you say you were using Floating line with Sinking Leader? Or Full Sinking Line? Do you find it necessary to use tapered leader and Tippet when saltwater flyfishing? Thanks again. Great time watching you enjoy yourself
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
Hi Anthony! thank you! It was soo cool to see! That was a 9wt but 5/6 be just fine i like the heavier rod cause I dont really know what Ill be flinging. Thats a sinktip line so the front 15ft sinks. Not reall with the sinking line 15-30lb is fine smaller flies I may do 2ft30 to 3ft15 or just start5ft 15 and run down or 30lb for bigger flies. Floating libne I do like tapperd leaders
@ATREZ0123
@ATREZ0123 Год назад
@FishYourWay The diversity of species in saltwater is such an amazing treat! Its hard to tell the WT of rod in video. It looks smaller. I have been using my 8WT in the surf, but I do have a 5WT and 6WT fly rods that I use for Trout. Trout can be so line shy. That 9ft tapered leader is a must. Especially when dry fly fishing. Not as important when using streamers or nymphs. And it doesn't seem to be as important in Saltwater either?

Great video. I've fly fished years ago but no longer have the gear. I was wondering about "fly fishing" with light spinning tackle and using a float with a fly. Have you ever done that? I fish NJ, and it seems like when there is a ton of small bait around (silversides), predators have an easy meal and are likely to focus on that almost exclusively. Maybe flys are better bait at such times. What do you think?
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay 2 года назад
Hi mueshow thanks great comment. Yes and yes! You can use a float for the flies with a spin rod. the actually make them that fill up with water so the sink too and you can remove them to make them float. Sometimes to the fish just really do well on the fly and its the way to go. So I say give it a try!
