Scotland is home to one of the most exciting game birds - the Red Grouse. The moorland bird is perfect quarry for an HPR and at the right time of year the moor is a wonderful place to train dogs to work well. This video demonstrates how different weather conditions affect scent.

You are the best dog trainer I have ever seen a teenager most people once a dog flushes the birds they just let the dog keep running after the birds, but you stop your dog which is absolutely the thing to do because I’ve seen people before once the dog flushes, the dog runs out through the birds and people shoot over top of the dog to close Your dogs are excellent.

Thankyou Billy ! 😀 Steadiness is so important imo for the dogs safety. Grouse particularly often fly very low and a chasing dog could be vulnerable. In fact careful guns would not have a safe shot. A good dog will always mark a shot bird down, especially one it has hunted so even with a runner the retrieve should not prove a problem....there is no need to rush to do it.
