I looked up the variety I'm growing, Dagan. It says it takes 160 days. I do see sprouts forming.! I decided to leave them in my garden. I shade cloth covering since it's gotten hot in the upper 70's in May. I guess it can't hurt to keep them in. So next year I'll be super ready with all the tips and tricks that you and others have provided , thank you❤

Excellent. Dagan is good and shade cloth will help. Good luck! Glad I was helpful 😃

Sorry, you haven't gotten sprouts. Maybe too hot for them to form. Wishing you lots of positive thoughts for next year's crop. Thanks for watching.

Am I understanding that you don’t put seedlings out until July? I planted seeds back in early April and I’ve had brussels sprout plants growing well. I have sprout development but they’re loose. It’s now almost October 1 and I keep waiting. I cut the tips off, about a month ago, the growing tip at the top. I cut probably half the large leaves off the bottom. They’re getting plenty of sun. I gave them some fish emulsion up to Labor Day maybe. Maybe that was too late. The growing tips that I cut off now look all really leafy and bushy. Should I cut them off again? Is nothing going to happen? Friends mentioned they had gotten brussels sprouts in November, so I thought maybe I needed to wait longer?

@@joybrown8644 I would keep waiting. They do like cool weather and will tolerate light frost. Yes, I don't even transplant into the garden till mid-summer. My problem when planting in spring like "normal" was that they bolted and didn't make sprouts. Have the planys made any sprouts?. Have you tasted - are they bitter or sweet? Typically they get sweeter with cooler weather. Hope that helps!

Don't tear them out. My sprouts didn't even start to manifest until Sept. I got several small to medium sized that I picked in early Nov.

Thanks! Liked and subbed. I just moved from Zone 4 to zone 8 and am an amateur gardener. Soooo much to learn. I appreciate you getting right to the point. Everything is taking off but my Brussels. Know I now it's way too hot. Been in the mid 80 or higher this past few weeks. Do you suggest I move them to the shade? Or try bringing it inside?

I would try a shader spot but they may not grow till fall? I don't think they would grow inside. My guess is that in Zone 8 they would do better in late fall. BTW - wow going from 4 to 8 is a big jump! Thanks for subscribing!

Great information! What shade cloth do you use and what’s the sun shading rate? Thanks!

Thanks for watching. I have both 30 and 50 %. I used 50 on the top of the greenhouse and some animal areas. The 50 is great for summer lettuce. I used the 30 like in the picture on beds in summer for greens and Brussels sprouts. It still lets water and air through. I like the Agfabric for row cover and shade cloth amzn.to/43eGxQq

Also will this shade cloth protect the Brussels sprouts from bugs? Thank you

Could you do them very early in the season, like indoor seeding in February and transferring in March/April?
@foxruneec
@foxruneec 7 месяцев назад
Good question. Possible but tricky. They need cool weather when the sprouts are forming. so maybe for a short-season variety. Also, cool weather improves taste. Thanks for watching!

I can't keep them growing until cooler weather.

Is this time of year too late to start them from store bought ones?? I was thinking indoors the entire time but I’m newbie, so no clue tbh lol

Hi, thanks for watching. Yes, its going to be to late now in August. They have a long growing season. The problem with growing them indoors is they get quite tall and unless you have good plant lights they would not succeed. So plan on them for next year!

Hey there! I’m in zone 6b, in Kentucky but all I have is red clay! Can you recommend a soil please?
@foxruneec
@foxruneec 7 месяцев назад
I would add lots of compost and green sand to loosen up the soil and add nutrients. You may choose to make some raised beds. It takes time but you can certainly make it into great garden soil. I have this video on clay soil ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KU736q047yk.html
