I’m growing potatoes in a grow bag right now and was about to look up what to do after the flowers appear. Now I know! Fold the bag up and fill with compost. Thanks for this!
@Jonathan Ryals same it will be my first time as well but with 30lbs cat bag might do it differently tho from this video which includes holes to add the potatoes in to grow outward from the bag
I know you posted this months ago, but just for anyone else who sees this and wants to do the same-the bags in this video are fabric bags meaning they’re breathable. This lets excess moisture drain or even evaporate from the bag. With a dog food (or fully plastic) bag, you don’t have any kind of ventilation going on so it’ll end up growing mold/the water will be stagnant for too long
I bought some potato bags, vermiculite and top soil. I planted the potatoes, green stems shot up,i put in more top soil,3 times. When the plant started to die and turn yellow i harvested only 3 potatoes. One was the size of a fat grape and the other 2 the size of a pea. I wasnt going to give up,so i tried again. Same thing. Apparently potatoes arent that easy to grow.
@sirsanti8408 5 gal potato bags. And the stems grew up about 14 inches. I added soil 3 times. The top was growing great. And the bottom part wasnt. Next time I'm gonna add potassium to the soil.
@sierrajade63 Another important thing to remember is that potatoes can be indeterminate or determinate, so if determinate, there is no need to hill, but only hill indeterminate other wise the plant is wasting energy growing vines when it should be growing potatoes.
Try to use potash fertilizer and make sure they are always watered...it takes alot of energy to grow tubers and they need special fertilizer to help. Also don't use regular store potatoes, they are sprayed with anti growth chemicals. You should try again!
