Grow Room Reflective Wall Materials Compared for Cannabis Production
Professor DeBacco
What to Cover the Walls With?
Since indoor grow areas have walls and growers are paying for light maximizing the efficiency is a continual goal of growers.
Since indoor areas will have walls, maximizing the reflectivity of the walls can be a simple way to provide plants with more light.
Cannabis is a high light demanding plant so using a good reflective surface is beneficial.

Suggestion to Growers
Your light source is less important than the wall surface used.
While any clean wall surface will be a benefit over no wall, using Silver Mylar with a diamond pattern results in the greatest amount of light reflected.
This material is found in most grow tents, but make sure it is in your growing space and if not, consider adding it.

I can confirm this. I was trying to go cheap for awhile building grow boxes out of pallets, screwing a 2x4 into the "meat" of the base of the pallet then screwing sheets of OSB on the inside. At first it didn't feel reflective enough with bare wood so I went to panda film (white/black) and noticed the increase then finally got the cheap 2 x 2 x 4 tent to play with. Immediately noticed how upgraded the tent material was over everything and have been stuck on tents since. But that 6 x 6 open grow space is coming because I want to maximize the 8 foot ceilings.

Thanks for the video, let me ask - How about a tin foil to reflect natural sunlight towards the inside of a room? could I benefit if for example I would set 2 sheets of tin foil but slightly different angles?

It should help, but the mirror like surface will create hot spots and if crinkled the light will be scattered. So in short better than nothing, but there are better options.

Nice. My AC infinity cloudlab has the new 20000d canvas its incredibly reflective

This is great as it will help you maximize the use of the light you are generating anyway. Just be sure to also keep it clean so it can maintain it efficiency for your plants.

I scored when Grow Generation bought my local and cleared out a bunch of stuff they didn't carry. Got giant rolls of Reflectix, IR film and the best score was a 100' roll of Orca, for $1/ea. Went back for the other roll when I saw how good it was and couldn't find that guy, but paid like $30 for another. Really goodstuff.

I was thinking about this method of increasing wall space by extending the surface but I was thinking of using dowels in a ribbed formation then foil spray glued on but think I’ll just buy the Mylar thank you 👍

Great video Would reflective material be much help for the sides for the veg stage when plants are small?, as all my leaves receive light from above 2 x 600 watt MH for 18 plants grown a week apart on stands to keep the canopy even and to save space as well as having a continuous grow I don't see how light on the edges of the leaves would help? I harvest one plant per week 9 in flower, also if the light is powerful enough to penetrate the canopy, how does side reflective help, as there is none separating the plants in the middle of the tent I have 18 vegging, for 18 weeks to get bigger plants and keep with the 9 week flowering cycle 9 week veg is not enough I have a tent for the flowering stage, to separate the light cycle from the vegging plants that are in the same room it has 2 x 1,000 watt HPS Thank you

Plant leaves are not 100% horizontal so reflective sides are important during all stages of growth, however you could argue it is more important when the plants are small since you want to increase the chance of the light contacting the plant surface.

Im guessing that the disparity between percentages between the 2 lights as he stepped up the reflectiveness is due to the hps being omnidirectional and maybe getting more benefit from reflecting off the top and sides. Kinda make you wonder if LED panels being flat is best in each usage case. Like, how would a more omnidirectional LED light perform in reflectivity across these surfaces compared to a comparably powered flat LED panel and an HPS, I wonder. It seems really counterintuitive to do anything but point all the LEDs down at the plants, but it would be funny to see in 10 years everyone using disco ball or curved LED panels in tents.

Emergency blanket mylar is by far the cheapest option but it's very temperamental. I got spots missing cause I touched it with sweaty hands. Arrgh..... Good thing they come in packs of 4. Lol I used huge boxes from Amazon that my dirt came in. 😂 Lol it works great. Bloomspect 1000 and a giixer. Lol fan and your set. Total cost about 100 and that's for 2 lights folks. Just 1 will be like 50. Oh add a humidifier. I'm using a cheap 10 dollar Amazon find. POS if u ask me. Wet towels do better. Jus grab a Walmart 1 instead.

@DeBaccoUniversity
@DeBaccoUniversity 3 года назад
By providing the comparison in percents of the different materials, this will allows growers to generate cost of materials vs return to allow each grower to calculate their own personalized cost evaluation.

I believe he has another video; where plain aluminum foil outperformed everything.

This will tarnish and is easily damaged so even if it is better initially based on experience it will likely not have the usable life compared to other products.

Aluminum foil works great and lasts forever. However to do a wall or a 4'x8' sheet of foam a 100' roll of mylar is inexpensive and easy to work with. It can by useful to tape recycled Mylar potato chip bags or aluminum foil onto the light hoods to retain light in the garden area. This allows using T8 shoplights for five or six weeks of vegetation rather than three or four.
