Pete, you are an inspiration! You turned me on to Barbados Cherry Trees ( I have 12) Everbearing Mulberry Trees ( I have 6) and I learn so much from your videos. I have a mature oak forest next door and added banana trees. Next is Starfruit!!!! Thanks for the videos.
Lol overabundance problem :) l certainly don't have that problem because my 6 girls (hens) help themselves with most of the fruits (grapes, peaches, blackberries, etc.) and veggies.
Bought one from a big box store nearly two years ago and it has not grown an inch. It flowered several times once we got it, but never fruited. It was in a windy part of the back yard and after watching a previous video, we transplanted to a more protected area. I believe it is suffering from Chlorosis now. Leaves are pale green, no flowers, no root stock growth and very little new leaf growth. I think it may be time to get a Carrie from Echo and start fresh.
That’s crazy! I had the same thing happen when I first moved here, it’s a monster now. That’s how I learned about the wind tolerance. It’s actually Kari, with a K. Enjoy, I love echo!
I've heard they just came out with dehydrated water, all you need to make a full cup of re-hydrated water out of the dehydrated water is add a cup of water to it, and viola!
Hi Pete, I too live in central Florida. My neighbor gave me a small starfruit tree and its doing great. I did how ever plant it in full sun and it is not shaded from the wind. My bad! I do have a question. Do you buy the starter plant from a nursery or do you start from seed? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
I only have One--the Kari, I believe. Or so it was labeled when I bought it maybe 6 yrs ago now ;) Typically, very productive. Probably gets too much light (east side but in hotter Phx)...also seems to respond to pruning. And another tropical that you should probably not add too much additional nitrogen (like mangos, etc.). But I have been WAITING for someone to produce a Video like this !! :) Thanks, Pete !
Good call! They definitely respond greatly to pruning. I’ve actually heard of stressing and cracking branches to induce fruiting. My trees went nuts after the hurricane...
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Yes, have heard this with several different tropicals...and it is why many skin or ring other fruit trees...The "Eat Your Backyard" FLA guy (? Used to watch his vids...don't think he produces many these days)...posted a post hurricane tropical video a couple yrs back where he highlighted heavy fruiting response. Thx again, Pete !!
I have kari in Hawaii wind protected dappled light. It fruited once and never again in 2 years. Idk what’s up with it. I have tried to push flower with potassium fert with no luck. Tree is healthy just won’t fruit 😕
You never have too many. You can do so much with them. Juice them, make jelly/ jams, pickle them etc. And they smell divine! BTW hope you had no damage from hurricane Dorian. The Bahamas got slammed. Global warming is real folks! They are really gonna need our prayers and help .
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL really happy for you guys. So did we. I don't think you can build a house to withstand that much force. The devastation is biblical.
Hi just saw your video after I returned from the local grocery store with a starfruit for the seeds but it didnt taste good and and dont want to put time and effort into a fruit that is not a good tasting one. I would like to get seeds from a sweet variety you menrion I didnt catch the name of it.. I am in central florida, Hernando county. what is the possibility i can buy some seeds to grow sweet star fruit from you or a plant? Thanks for the video.
I heard you mention the graft are these trees grafted or can you grow from the seeds and will the plant make fruit if growing from seed and I live in nc near Charlotte would these trees survive our frosty winters
Owh...too bad though as I would say rambutan is much tastier (especially the yellow type) as compared to star fruit. Probably could give it a try though...
I got an Arkin from Lowe's at half price. I won't be gassing it to ripen. I heard that it's people with kidney disease can't eat the high vitamin C fruit like the Barbados cherry.
Living in Bushnell which is a little further south for me I moved from North Miami Beach where everything will grow beautiful mangoes avocados etc. now I live on 3 1/4 acres in Lady Lake quarter-mile from the villages started having guys drop off chips local hardwood oak and lots of free coffee grounds from Starbucks trying to turn this white sand into something the Amazonian‘s would be proud of . HI Richard that sounds awesome, sounds like you are living the dream! How do you go about getting the starbucks coffee grounds? Just ask? Does it come mixed with a bunch of regular trash?
PSA to Americans- don’t take my name as racist. It is very common North Indian name and it literally means the noble/wise one, thats it- nothing to it! That been said - please read Love it brother! We chop the outside and pickle green/yellowish one to eat it with SHOTS of vodkas, and shred them on fresh salad a bit to give a tangy tatse! Live on and let the land live on! God bless to good people around the world- love from India 🇮🇳
I have quite the history with these. When I was a kid I was treated to huge deep orange colored Carambola fruits at a local Asian Market. The absolute greatest I have ever had. When I lived in Georgia I remember paying an arm and a leg for yellowish green (tasteless) fruits at Publix lol. But had to get my fill! I also recall my rural Ky elementary school (in like 2008) getting a box of them in and were given to us, something about letting impoverished kids experience something they otherwise wouldnt. Was very cool and we all liked them.
Starfruit use in Mimosa cocktail. It's blend of different fruit juices is all mixed togheter. you have to guess, what's they are, passionfruit, orange juice and starfruit all must be ripen. Only 45 ml a shot is in the Mimosa cocktail. it's not 5 ml starfruit what is in your glass. Their's grand marnier 10 ml, 25 ml Remy Martin VSOP. 40 ml St germain elderflower and 120 ml a 150 Laurent perrier La cuveee brut. only likeur and fruit juices can be shaked in cocktail shaker. Champagne never most be shaked lost bubbles.
I shouldn’t technically be growing them here. It’s also about location and microclimate. If we get a couple of mild winters you could get a few hundred fruit
Inspired to grow this. I’ll be experimenting with this tree in norcal 9b. What soil mix does carambola like? I followed your soil recipe and recommendations for jaboticaba as well!
Beautiful yard you have there sir I'm in DeLeon Springs 9a enjoying your videos I just started transforming my yard into a fruit Forest this past February some of the first trees I got were a 2 kari and 2 Sri kembangan I got them tucked under some old oak tree hammocks hoping for the best brother
Are you aware of the magical ayurvedic herbs and vegetables in the trend today ? You can grow them and reap so many benefits from them. If you ever visit India , I can give you plants of 'em all for free.
In northern part of india I live in city lucknow of state uttar pradesh winter is coming it is soon going to be available in market but only few sell it mostly I have eaten freshly picked very sour in taste if raw the shown in video is roped little sweet in taste
I have been trying to grow starfruit from seeds. Here in AZ it is not as simple as many on RU-vid would have you believe, .many starfruits do not even have seeds!! I have found several varieties locally. The larger ones usually have seeds that germinate more readily. Unfortunately they are still hit or miss whether they have seeds. They are more expensive too. Several people have told me of a starfruit the size of a Mexican papaya. Does anyone have experience with them, where can I obtain some. In Southern California various produce markets carry them, $10 each. I would drive over and buy some but availability is hit or miss, and gas prices are such that it isn't worth the drive. Does anyone know of contacts that would ship the fruits? Thank you.
Thank God you NEVERRRRRR said exotic fruit in your video .....some lady mentioned that this was an exotic fruit and i was like................... but you have a .great video here.....respectfully represented....... we make salads...salsa....cakes....almost anything with our tree.. over here in the tropics
I'm not far from you, in St. Petersburg. I have one starfruit tree, and whenever it's producing, I give some to my neighbor, my handyman, and sometimes I set a table out by the street with a FREE sign. They are so prolific, I can't keep up. I did mulch it thickly when I first got it, and I toss some stuff on it once in awhile, but I don't think it cares. It is up against a line of arborvitae, and is sheltered. In a fairly strong wind, the limbs will snap easily. It is leaf-heavy, so needs to be kept pruned to avoid damage. This happened twice that I lost big limbs.
I just ordered a red thailand star fruit tree online. I can't find any info on google about a red colored star fruit. So I was wondering if you have ever seen or heard of them before? In your opinion what is the sweetest variety of star fruit? All the ones I have gotten from the grocery store here in So Cal tasted bland with a mild fragrance.
Man🙏can I have some seeds of the best sweetest fruit. I want them to plant in Africa. I want to make exotic fruit garden, but this Corona spoiled my dreams
You are driving me crazy! I'll be down the end of October and would love to buy two of the sweetest variety! I'll check in before we start our trip! Maybe I can get a few twigs off of the one you love so much???
I just bought a STARFRUIT from Publix. It was NOT impressive and the taste was somewhat sour. My STARFRUIT had NO FLAVOR. When we come to FLORIDA, I hope we can locate you to visit your FRUIT/VEGETABLE GARDEN. It is very REFRESHING watching your CHANNEL!!!
i realize you didnt call bank on that shot. ill trade you B-ball lessons for starfruit..... lol....love all your video bruh, keep bringing that good content, pound dirt brother!!!!
He Pete, I love watching our videos and it must be great for you to have so many tropical fruits. I live in Trinidad and Tobago and I grew up on some of the most amazing fruits, more than 15 different varieties of Mangoes, Sour Cherries, Jujubes, Cashew, Pommerac, June Plums or Star apple, so delicious when ripen Chennet, Caimate, Tamarind, Chinese Tamarind which is different from the other one mentioned, Cocorite, Groogroo palm, Gri Gri, another fruit of palm, coconuts, ice cream fruit, sour plums, two different varieties, sapodilla, tonka bean, cerees, if that's how it was spelled, a small red fruit when ripened and you would soften it and then eat, mamey sapote, sugar apple, custard apple, gauva, balata, and there are other local fruits here in Trinidad like mangosteen, but not as popular as the others. Star fruit, acerola cherries. I cant remember all the fruits we have here, some I have only heard about but I was able to eat most of them. Great job at showcasing fruits around.
Oh damn!!... I follow you on TikTok. Recognized the voice!. Do you sell the trees? If so, how big & how much? I'd want something that would produce relatively soon. Can drive the 2 hours to pick up.
My starfruit tree flowers and set tiny fruits yearly but for some reason it drops all of it. The flowers and the immature fruits. It’s 4 years since I bought it. I have not had any fruit from it. It’s supposed to be a kari variety. What is happening to my tree?
