No need to harvest everything at once, the plant will keep on producing. At the end of the season, harvest the nice big root bulp, and cook it, like a potato. ❤ awesome food.
You can make lot of delicious meals or apetizers. Our traditional ones are gratin chouchou, daube chouchou, achard chouchou, beignet chouchou and the leaves you make quiche/tarte bredes chouchou or just bredes chouchou alone.
They are Yummy like that. I love HoneyCrisp Apple but this fruit has the same crisp texture with less sugar. I only found it locally last year and I'm SO happy, I'm going to try to grow it myself this year!
Cuál es la diferencia entre plantar las guatilas chayote con el tallo hacia arriba? Yo las he cultivado y las plantó con el tallo hacia abajo o sea dándole la vuelta.... Gracias. 🇨🇴

It is very light in flavor, crispy like an apple and cool like a cucumber. you can make it sweet as a snack or pie filling or you can stir fry it like squash ( It is a squash in fact) or boil it like radish for a savory dish. Buy one and just nibble on it and get some ideas how you may enjoy it. I chopped it up and simmered it with cinnamon and cadamom and cranberries and sweetener for a nice dessert.
if you have a mature fruit, one that is getting wrinkly, then you can extract the seed inside without planting the whole fruit. It's hard to tell which is mature and which is not so I bought like 5 of them and just set them on the counter. The mature ones will try to send out a stalk and root buds. If you carefuly cut at an angle you can cut the fruit from around the seed and pluck the seed out and plant it. It will split open like wings, but the roots and shoot both come out of the same end. YOu gotta keep it moist till the shoot comes out enough to start making a leaf and the roots will follow. If you cannot commit to keep it moist then leaving it inside the fruit does the same thing. They are kinda expensive in my area so I like to have the fruit to eat and take out the seed to try to grow.
I like this pear vege tried 6 times plants grown nice for 2-3 months and suddenly just died never get fruit may be the weather in my area ( batons rouge Louisiana is getting warm in may. My brother grew successful and in Portland Oregon weather is cool all year long. Use the young shoot leaves for stir fry or hot pot is delicious
