I am from SA, they make jams and salad and canned apples and use it for hedges. I think SA weather is a lot like Australia. Kiwis is very difficult to grow here
Love guava (guayaba in spanish). My mom is from Mexico and when we go, I eat anything and everything made of guava lol. Hope the trees work out for you. :)
That looks like a good job Mark, your dog's not gonna be happy when he realises that he's been outfoxed :-) It'll be interesting to know what the apples taste like when they're ready. Cheers Adam
Your furbaby looks like our Boo-Boo and he too, likes to chase the fence line at our place here in South Alabama, USA. Do you have any concern about your dogs eyes with those scary thorns?
I wish I could grow those here. I have the same problem, however it's about my neighbor's 4 or 5? dogs, Pembroke Welsh Corgi's, that head right for my garden area, and are always left out on their own. I may eventually be putting up a fence, however not until the last of the fruit trees and other plantings are finished, on that side of my property. So I have to deal with their "mess." I would never hurt them, but with them living in MY yard, it's time to take a stand. Their small, but "hefty" so I thought that something with thorns, may divert them to the acres all around them, and it's time to do something permanent, about them and the rabbits and other animals that want to come into my yard too. So, it's time to decide. There would be a good 10 feet between the "thorn plants" and the fruit trees, so I think that would work, but I'm not real sure of that. Any suggestions? All of the fruit trees will be dwarf, in a horizontal espalier method, with many feet between them. I really like your idea, but yours is to keep your own dog away, mine is to keep someone else's out. Do you think this would work, or should I just go with a short temporary fence until I finish planting everything? I do want any fruits I can get onto my property, so it's not just for the dogs, I want the fruit too. Bless, Sheila PS been considering Blackberries and Raspberries. I'm also not that up on Berries, and have little experience with them other than the two mentioned.
Hi Jack, I have written an article on my blog that explains in detail what happened to me here www.selfsufficientme.com/health/serious-injury-or-illness-and-the-road-to-recovery Cheers :)
Thank you so much for sharing this, Mark. I've been recovering from an accident for almost six years now and reading about your motivation gives new breath into my journey to defy my doctors' disappointing plans for me! The human body is an amazing machine and we can do almost anything, as long as the mind is in for the ride too. I've also gone off medications and sometimes I am so tired from lack of sleep from the pain. How do you cope?
Hi from South Africa, it is pronounced ky apple, like my apple. love your channel, from the Tsitsikamma Storms River Village just inside the coastal Western corner of the Eastern Cape, temperate 1200mm a year. coastal montane wetland.
the answer is Wireless dog fence with shock collar/ training collar at first hearing it you may think it to be cruel. the thing is it will actually save your dog's life no chance of him getting ran over or biting a unattended victim which may result in euthanasia of your dog. some are pricey but you can get them relatively cheap just remember you get what you pay for
Our dog was so annoying barking at the dog next door we planted grapes... and she killed some of them with her dumbass behavior. Should have gone thorny like yours!
