Just make sure the soil is free of contamination. The microgreens grow really close to the soil because they are short. I hate all the waste too - i teamed up with a local farm who does composting. I just made a video about my whole process if you wanna check it out. I think youll like it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q0W9o0x0gQ8.html

If you have a container with no holes, it's recommended that you use activated charcoal at the bottom. It keeps the soil "sweet", and helps prevent root rot. Also, hydrogen peroxide is a key ingredient for mold prevention. Food grade is preferred, just dilute it as needed. Nice videos. You might consider using 'spot focus' on your camera, though. This maintains the proper exposure for your subject matter so that it doesn't look too dark for the viewer.

there is a more simple way to reuse the soil . I actually put it into an oven and dry the soil then reuse it . it will wast some soil every time but also save a lot . so I add some new soil on the top ,put the baked soil on the Botton .It works with me ,If you don't have a big garden and many place to put the soil there wait for a long time till it become useful again ,you guys may want to try this way

Have you ever thought about putting it in your oven and bring it up the temperature in sterilizing the soil? Also is there any way to economically distilled water that you using for the Flushing of the seeds so that you can use it again to soak the seeds what I see here is you go through a lot of water to sprout these things obviously you could use it to water other plants but if you're just doing sprouting how can you recycle the water?

Khang, Thank you. I like your take on growing. Because of your videos I got my frist grow tent. I might have went a little overboard I got a 6.5 x 6.5 x 6.5. I'm still working on my lighting system that I'm going to do. Do you have any suggestions? I'm leaning towards LEDs with a exhaust fan and an intake fan.
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 7 лет назад
LED is an excellent option because it's low energy and low heat. It also depends on what you're growing. If you're like me and you want to grow everything in the tent, I'd invest a little on a good setup, a light that has all spectrum for all stages of fruiting plants. Also, read the coverage area before choosing a light. If it covers enough ground in your tent, then go with that.

Khang Starr I figured I would start with my local hydroponics store and ask them what the best size lighting I need. I'm not growing much just chocolate Scotch bonnets comma starfish peppers comma bird's-eye peppers from your review and the scotch bonnets comma Peach ghost peppers and purple jalapenos that look amazing. Your hydroponic videos nutrient videos was great advice my plants are doing amazing. Even though they're still seedlings.T growth is pretty dark green. a few years ago I just threw a couple of habanero seeds in a coffee can with some soil from my backyard. And now I'm going to have an actual real crop

Hi, thanks for all your videos. I have been successfully growing microgreens for quite a while now. However, lately when they get about an inch high, they lay down in the dirt and get limp. This batch is in soil, it is clover. I have grown it nicely before. What gives? Could it be the heat we are having? Yes, the seeds I use are for microgreens. Help.....
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 6 лет назад
IF they are an inch high and are getting limp, it could be due to either too much water drowning the roots, or lack of lights causing the stalk to be weak. Lighting is very important when you want them to grow straight up and strong. In some of my videos, I cover them to prevent light because I want them tall for easy harvest.

Does this process work with coconut coir?
@jno4159
@jno4159 5 лет назад
Farida Zaid Most likely not. There are tons of bacteria, fungi,mycorrhizae, enzymes in soil that help degrade the roots. You can even add more of them and additional plant food to re enrich the soil. Coir is basically baron, roots would just mold. Need something else in it or else it would just be moldy coir and roots. Worms would likely work even and create humus

Hi Khang. Another great video. Question for you: I see you've done a ton of microgreens. I'm wondering what you recommend for someone looking to grow a milder one? I've recently grown arugula and it was very peppery. Seemed like it'd be good in small quantities. Do you have recommendations for anyone looking to make an entire microgreen salad? I was thinking sunflower or peas would be my next try. Thanks! :)

Sunflower is a great choice for salads. For peas, I like to stir fry them for a few minutes. This brings out their sweetness even more.

Hi Khang great video as always!!! Question about the Micro Green Seeds... Are they a special variety of seed or do you use normal seeds and just harvest the seedlings early?
@KhangStarr

Microgreens are basically same as the regular plants, but harvested early, so they are the same seeds. I always recommend buying specific organic microgreen seeds as others may have been treated for shelf life.

I bought a couple of those black plastic concrete mixing troughs from the big box hardware store. I then spread the soil and roots out in those and let the sun completely dry it. Then I remove whatever visible root hair is left and other debris. Then I cover the entire batch with a black plastic garbage bag or landscape film and solarize it. This will kill off any bacteria, molds or other pests that may be present. Especially useful for those trying to use an otherwise inert (coco coir, etc.) medium.

No, I have not. I'm not a big fan of Ghost peppers. If you used pollen from a Thai Pepper onto a Ghost flower, very likely, you will get no seeds, or seeds that are paper thin and may not be viable. They are considered partially fertile, so if you're lucky, you may get some that sprout. If you do it the reverse, all the seeds will grow fine.
