I thought it was time to give a full video dedicated to the flowers I'm growing for may autumn wedding. In this video we'll talk about some of the challenges I've had and look at the progress of my seedlings and plants that are already out on the plot. I'll also plant out my Amaranthus, Statice and Strawflowers. Stay tuned to see how I support everything and plant out the dahlias.

The foxgloves look absolutely fabulous, the allium do too, I am having trouble getting my cosmos seeds to germinate, normally I just put seeds straight into the border but this year absolutely nothing, I bought some seed compost placed that in the garden but still nothing so now I am trying some in small plant pots, fingers crossed this works, the allotment is really taking shape now 👍

Am I brave enough to pinch out my dahlias? I’ve only just now started that process with the Cosmos and it makes me feel like an executioner! I think your dahlias are going to epic, thanks for showing us how the plants are growing.

Pinch them! If you have cutting varieties (30-48 inches), you need to pinch them to get blooms in quantity and stem length. I know it’s hard but it must be done just like regular deadheading.

I have watched both the May tour video and this one, and I don't mind at all seeing things twice! I love your garden and the gate to it. It reminds me of The Secret Garden book and the movie from the 1990s. Sending love from blessings from the USA!

I'm in Coventry. I put my dahlias out after last frost, which was the beginning of May this year. They are all about 3 foot tall with buds. I find they do better with a bit of cold. I have no yellowing that's definitely a deficiency.

Had to pause to say my honesty has also not flowered yet (I'm also in East Mids) - all self seeded, normally everywhere - but this year only leaves so far... like you, I'm hoping for a late flowering.

I love that you’re growing your own flowers! I’ve tried several packets of strawflowers and have only ever had one successful plant! And only a handful out of dozens of seeds even germinated! There must be a secret to it.

Such a relaxing, beautiful country garden ❤. Just wondered if the plants that weren't flowering yet were biennial? Waited on my honesty to flower this year (New Zealand), but just lots of greenery.. Then realised they won't flower until next summer 🤪

I was told that there are 100's of different species of powdery mildew and the ones that occur on your squash can only live on squash leaves, not any other plant. Same goes for every plant's powdery mildew meaning your squash can't spread it to any other species of plant.

Beautiful! With your long straight stick, you could put some permanent marks on it as measured intervals for different plant spacings. Use different colours, on different sides of the stick to incorporate as many variables as possible.

Some lovely thing to come.✨ have you not put the rudbeckia in the ground because you don’t have space? A lot of the seedlings you have are cool flowers (rudbeckia, scabiosa, strawflowers) and can go in weeks before last frost. They will take off once they get their feet in soil☺️My apricotta cosmos are blooming now. Gorgeous flower!

Aways nice and a sense of achievement when it's completed but the prospect can be a bit daunting!.With a dodgy knee recently developed I'm having to rethink how to do certain tasks: a little fishing stool has been suggested! Maybe I'll get myself a little red pointy hat, fishing rod and become a feature! Lol! Great to watch and listen to you as always. Thank you.

I noticed your dahlias are planted much higher in the pots than mine. I've been told the tubers should be about 10 cm below the soil. Mine have all come up fine, so is it not as important to bury them or have I been lucky?
@homegrowngarden
@homegrowngarden Год назад
When I plant them in the soil they will be a bit deeper yes. When planting in pots to start them off I like to give them more compost to root into so they don’t go as deep.
