Awesome grow tent, and very good breakdown of how to set it up. I love that you added links for every item used. Your plants sure look happy and healthy in there! I also use a plastic tray underneath my tent (the bottom of mine is open) to collect any spills (when my clumsy self reaches in and knocks something over and now there’s dirt everywhere 😅) and it provides an extra layer of protection for my floors. I use a dog crate tray that I bought cheap online. And I use an automatic mister that I got off Amazon for cheap, which is actually advertised for reptiles, but works perfectly. This cuts down on my watering and takes out the worry of them being too dry when I’m traveling.

Thank you, Catie! That’s a great idea! What automatic mister do you use? I need to invest in one too cause my plants dry out quite a bit when I travel and it stresses them out! And that’s a great idea about the dog mat for spills! I’m also guilty of getting water on the floor! Hahaha

Thanks for uploading this video and providing links to all of the equipment. Your secret to growing orchids indoors is save with us. 😁 I recently bought an eight tier plant stand with LED lighting. The lighting is supposed to be full spectrum, but I think it's more for low light orchids like phals or paphs. I have it in front of a western facing window.

Hahaha I’m glad you like it! Hopefully it helps folks out who are trying to grow orchids indoors! That’s awesome! When I grow Cattleyas and high light orchids, I’ve needed 3-4 led light strips to bloom them atleast! They’ll grow but not bloom as prolific!

@@OrchidsByBryan I forgot to ask about temperature. Do you have to supplement with some kind of heater? Also, do the humidity trays have to be cleaned often?

I've replicated methods from the cannabis industry for my setup. I utilize a Gorilla grow tent equipped with a humidifier, oscillating fans, KIND LEDs, and ductwork to circulate air out of the tent. An AC Infinity computer controls everything, sending all parameters to my mobile device. I maintain the VPD at a constant 1.2 - 0.6
@JonesJones-np2kq
@JonesJones-np2kq 3 месяца назад
Most orchids thrive with a vapor pressure deficit (VPD) between 0.5 to 1.2 kPa (kilopascals).[1] This moderate VPD range allows orchids to transpire and absorb moisture and nutrients without excessive water loss. Thin-leaved orchids like oncidiums, which have crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) photosynthesis, prefer a VPD around 0.5-1.2 kPa during the day when their stomata are open.[1] Thick-leaved orchids like cattleyas open their stomata at night and can tolerate slightly higher daytime VPD up to around 1.2 kPa.[1] During the spring and fall when VPD is moderate (around 1.2 kPa), watering frequency for C3 orchids should increase to prevent excessive transpiration.[1] In summer when VPD is moderate to high, CAM orchids can grow well with the increased humidity and ideal nighttime VPD.[1] Excessively high VPD above 1.2 kPa can cause orchids to close their stomata and limit water loss, reducing nutrient uptake.[1] Very low VPD indicates saturated air, increasing disease pressure.[1] Maintaining the proper VPD range is crucial for healthy orchid growth by allowing efficient gas exchange and nutrient absorption.

Yes!! That’s a great idea! I’ve heard people replicate grow tents this way and it works well! I’m glad to hear it works great for you too!

Hello Bryan. I have 2 big grow tents and they are with mylar inner covered. It allows to have light around all the part of the plants. Why do you used black ? It absorbs the light.

Great question, for my plants, light was less of an issue than humidity was. Since my orchids are mostly shade/bright shade orchids, having a lot of light was not the issue. I only grow a small amount of higher light orchids in my tent. The VPD allows me to dial in on the humidity and temperature to achieve maximum growth. For me, the tent was helped me to manage humidity since that was my previous issue.

@@OrchidsByBryan I understand. On the other hand I think black it’s really visually prettier. It’s really more rewarding for the plants. 😀

I thought you will also tell the fertilizer which you are using for your orchids. I am Pearly from India.

hi pearly, you will most likely not find the same fertilizer bryan uses in India. I would have a look at cheery orchids - she has instructions for indoors and growing outdoors. Make sure you follow the right video as the concentrations are vastly different, depending if it is just you watering or supplenting an orchid that receives rainfall instead. Outdoors she uses a maximum dosage of a standard fertilizer and pre-wets and flushes lots. Indoors the concentration you want to aim for is roughly 100 ppm of nitrogen of a balanced fertilizer. This should include the same amount of calcium if using rain water. The total ppm would be roughly 500 ppm which is the equivalent to an EC of 1.0 (100ppm nitrogen + 100ppm phosphorous + 100ppm potassium + 100ppm calcium + 50ppm magnesium + 50 ppm sulfur + 2ppm trace elements = 502 total). If the EC measures lower that is fine, avoid going higher than an EC of 1.0. Cheeries video will give you instructions on how to achieve this with any generic fertilizer. I am sure bryan will bring out a video on how he does it too but in the meantime cheeries video is good and can be copied by anyone around the world. The amounts I have mentioned here should be used on every watering to water a mature orchid. It doesn't matter which one, any mature actively growing orchid should be fed this low amount with every watering, whether its a vanda you water daily or a pot that holds the water for a week. For seedlings one can use half the fertilizer or use plain water every second watering. Same with plants that are not actively growing.

Thank you for sharing this info, Tom! Pearly, Tom is correct in the likelihood of the fertilizer I use being available in India is slim. It’s true that everyone has a different fertilizer routine and many of them work. I use 20-20-20 every two weeks with regular water In between. I also use www.orchidnerd.com slow release fertilizers for my cattleyas and it works well. I must admit, I have a lot to learn about fertilizer but Tom has given you very helpful info. Thank you!
