Fluval is a fertilizer in itself and what is nice is you can rinse and repeat. I mix it with cocopeat sometimes. I am so glad I found this wonderful product. Not all of my plants have done well in it. They rotted but I am unsure if I had it too wet. Micans are hard for me to propagate but this stuff has been the truth!

I just started using stratum. Hoping it will do well. It didn’t take me long to start using it: I just thought, automatically, if Stacey recommends it, that is what I am going to do. That is how much your loyal viewers have trust in you!

Hi Stacy. I tried the fluvial stratum with my Hoya compacta, thomsonii, aldrichii, nummeriloides, laos, endurensis, vitellinoidesand mendorensis cuttings so far. In only one day, the leaves have firmed up so nicely!!! Sitting in water, sphagnum moss wasn't doing them any justice. This is amazing. Second day looks good. I will give a week or 2 before deciding on the others that could use this substrate.

I'm SO happy to see someone else try this! I've only been able to find one or two videos talking about using this for their plants, so I've been a bit nervous about trying it. Interestingly, they found similar results as far as it working REALLY well for cuttings that wouldn't root or plants that were stagnant! You definitely went into more detail though, so I really do appreciate this! Can't wait to hear any updates on the hoyas that you decided to grow in fluval stratum long term!💚😃

I just received a small package of Fluval stratum and have potted a cutting of hoya kalimantan that was doing great and all the sudden started loosing leaves. I also poted some cuttings of small favorite hoya plants just to experiment how it will work for me in Florida, high humidity. Thanks so much for sharing. I love your videos and your pots and plants are beautiful. ❤❤❤

I really enjoy semi hydro substrates. Last year I used a lot of pon and did a comparison between lechuza pon and leca. This year I also tried fluval stratum. So far I've only used it with a couple of philodendrons which has worked out well. Fluval stratum is by far my favourite. I like the look of it and it's not as dusty as the other two. The only downside for me personally is the price. After watching this video I'm looking forward to putting some hoya cuttings into fluval stratum 💕
@mypetitegarden
@mypetitegarden 2 года назад
How did you find the pon compared to leca? I think pon can also get pretty pricey as well. I do a homemade pon but it still requires quite a few components so that adds up.

Do you find that the stratum dries out less quickly than pon? I love pon but find it dries out too quickly unless it's used with a self watering pot.

Use general hydroponics Nutrient Solutions. Comes in 3 bottles. Used mainly for LECA. But I use that to root my plants in water before I transition to LECA. The results are astounding. I’m watching this because I want to see if switching over from LECA to Stratum will be worth the investment. Thanks for the video! Question. So you don’t keep it in a reservoir of nutrient solution like you would with LECA?

Thank you, @mypetitegarden for this informative video. I'm wondering if you could share a few things post potting your cuttings in fluval. 1 - how often did you water afterwards, 2 - did you just put all your pots in that terrarium for the 3-4 weeks while waiting? I also attempted propagation in fluval but I have not had the great outcome you did with yours. I did not put my pots in a closed container like yours and I'm wondering if this means that yours had a lot of beneficial moisture being closed up whereas mine did not. Thank you.

A few follow-up questions: how did you know when to add more water to the Fluval during the weeks of propagating them? Also, I see you kept them on your beautiful tabletop humidity cabinet. Did you place the small cabinet in full sun while they propagated or under grow lights? I so enjoy your videos and for your sharing your knowledge and experience. Here in the UK I have been using Tropica Aquasoil which is a similar product the Fluval one, I have had excellent results. There are quite a number of aquatic substrates available which have similar characteristics to Stratum, some are cheaper too. My experience using these products submersed in the aquariums is they last around 2 years then start breaking down to a powder, I wonder if they may last longer if not completely submersed as is the case using them for plants?

@mypetitegarden
@mypetitegarden 2 года назад
I have yet to reuse it since I just started using this substrate recently but in terms of sanitizing/disinfecting it, if it's not been in contact with anything that is rotting or has pests etc I would just gently rinse it between uses. However, if it has been in contact with anything bad I would probably not boil it since I think the substrate might break down - I read somewhere that you can maybe lay it out on a tarp or baking sheet and put it out on under the sun and let the UV take care of the disinfecting.

I just check to see if there are anymore moisture in the cups (you can see it since the cup is clear) or sometimes the stratum will look more matte & dark grey when dry and it's more black and shiny when it's still wet. I do not keep a water reservoir but I do have a secondary cup that holds any water that drains out which then becomes a water reservoir I guess.
