Growing Ube in Zone 6 (Chicago) - Planting, Harvesting, Preserving 

Ube, also known as purple yam or purple sweet potato, is a tropical plant from the Philippines. I wanted to see if I could grow it in Chicago. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a total failure! This video chronicles my first attempt at growing this totally tubular tropical tuber from planting to harvest and preserving it in the form of homemade Ube Essence, an Ube flavoring, and Ube Powder, a natural purple food dye.
