The Spanish moss is neither from Spain nor is it a moss. It is a plant native to the Southern states of the US, Central America, South America and the Carribbean islands. But the plant looked mossy and resembled the beards of Spanish conquistadors and so overtime it became the Spanish moss. It is an epiphyte and in its native grows on trees. In homes all it needs is to be hanged at a place where it requires bright light but now direct sunlight. It needs to be watered once in 2-3 days depending on weather conditions. Watering can be done by misting or dunking in water. The plant does not have distinct leaves and stem and can be multiplied just by breaking off a few strands and hanging with chords, threads or plastic hooks/ rings. Metal holders are best avoided.
