5:21 Holy crap, that engine is FOD’ded all to hell. That’s the type of engine you sometimes see in the facilities that train engine mechanics.

Wow, that's an early one. Would love to see a F-14 in person. Next time I visit The States I'm gonna find one.

There's two I know of in Pennsylvania that are super-easy to visit, both are located at VFW posts. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_SyBA6xk0nQ.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hpdU4AqT1jc.html on my channel. There's two others in PA that you can't since there are at DOD installations - one at Tobyhanna Army Depot, and the other at DLA Distribution Susquehanna in New Cumberland next to Capital City Airport. I have a couple on display in New Jersey on my channel. There's one on display that is publicly accessible at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. And, of course, there are others scattered about

Every example left has had the "backbone" broken to prevent being flown again. Also, Iran still flies them, and they don't want them to benefit from the remaining airframes.

@@briansmith2616 That's actually a myth. None of the Tomcats on display were structurally broken (though they typically can't be flown for other reasons).

@@RocketToTheMoose Do you have a source for this? I can only find references to internal parts of the variable wing being cut to prevent flight.
@RocketToTheMoose
@RocketToTheMoose 8 месяцев назад
@@briansmith2616 So, as far as I can tell, the original source for "the wing boxes get cut" came from a single article, I think on The Aviation Geek Club website (which itself cited no sources), and everyone just repeated that. However, if you search for that article, you'll find that it's been edited/corrected to remove any reference to the wing boxes being cut, because people who actually take care of museum F-14 's told them it wasn't true.

@nikbhatnagar9024
@nikbhatnagar9024 8 месяцев назад
Some were. But many just had lots of parts removed like the radar, instruments, engines, etc to keep those parts from going to Iran.
