In 2021, the Grumman Mallard set off from Darwin with 8 passengers bound for Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays. With 3 overnight stops on the way, the guests had a once in a lifetime experience, exploring the top end of Australia in the incredible Grumman Mallard Flying Boat

Grumman shuld build a latest version of this aircraft with the latest tecnology. This aircraft type could fly for the next half a century. Useful for today's market requirements. Be it military or civilian use. Beautiful to see it fly with the latest turbo prop fitted on it.

Saw several years ago that a company had formed to build Mallards again. Initially either piston or turbine powered. Piston dropped. Don't think production ever started as they were unable to secure a sufficient number of commitments to justify production. Probably be a $6 million aircraft. As romantic as some planes are, eventually their time passes.

@@davem5333 well I think China built their own amphib and Japan too. Since the US is focus on the indopacific why not revive this airplanes which is very useful to recovering downed pilots ISR and supply to islands in the Pacific. Or arm it if need be just like the PBY during WW2
