I replaced my old Grundfos pump with a UPS3 last winter, but left it on constant speed 1 on my open vented system. This worked ok in my 13 rad house, but the rads were never really scorching and my delta t was only around 5c even after balancing all the rads, I can now get it to over 20c when the system firsts starts heating and the rads are cold before it settles to around 10c. I only found out about this proportional setting last week so I trialing it with proportional speed 2. I find now that my rads have a more even heat all over, and my water tank seems to heat the water slower, but more evenly. Before if my wife or daughter took a shower then we may need to wait for the water to heat up a little before we could take another. Now we can get around 2 showers done before the water drops below 38C. Thanks for doing this video as there are very few that explain this pumps options 😀

Thank you very much, most helpful particularly for a slightly disabled pensioner. I had this pump installed two weeks ago and was working fine but the last two nights when the heating goes off the pump stays on. There is a white electric box in the airing cupboard which had a reset button which i pressed and fortunately it turned the pump off. It was very noisy and could not have slept with than going on. The electrician was lovely and had never come across one of these before. He has actually installed it upside down, I don't know why. Until you said about the button on the pump I had no idea there was one. My house is a small 3 bed but I only have 6 radiators going on low apart from the end radiator which has no thermostate and I noticed that the lights were one green and two amber so have done as you said and pressed and just have the one amber light going. I am hoping maybe having it on two, it was perhaps too much and will see what happens tonight at 10.30. I have contacted the supplier who are very good and will come out but whilst we have these freezing conditions there are far more people in trouble so am not too anxious about it. The main thing is that after turning it off with this reset button at night via the box, the heating comes on in the mornings so far.

Thanks for this explanation. I fitted the ups3 in early 2021, and left on constant speed 1. Since changing some radiators and fitting new TRV's which started to whistle. I have changed to proportional pressure 2. Hopefully this will solve the problem of whistling valves.

I found that my Grundfos was left on the constant curve III setting before it stopped turning itself off at night. I then by chance or accidentally was pressing buttons and changed it to curve II and it was a lot less noisy. However, the pipes in the airing cupboard were so hot they were burning and so I lagged them. The pump was sometimes not turning off at night so was doing this manually and then it was okay for 4 nights until it stopped again and also did not come on in the morning. After turning the boiler off for a few hours and turning back on the pump restarted and then i discovered flashing lights as opposed to the solid lights that had been visible for the 3 weeks. When it came back on it was on proportional pressure 2 so I changed it to pressure 1 as in your demonstration. Last night it turned itself off and came on this morning thankfully. I am puzzled by this and why the pump is so temperamental. Could it be because it was too much having the proportional pressure setting with only 6 radiators on low apart from the last of the line.

The problem I have since having it installed 7 weeks ago is the two wireless boxes, one in the kitchen by the boiler and one in the airing cupboard suddenly stop communicating with each other. Anybody know why. Its pretty miserable not having hot water or heat.

Thank you for clear concise description. I have just taken ownership of a small 2bed terrace with a Grundfos UPS3 already installed to a simple radiator system. What setting should the pump be set at in your opinion??? 🙏

Thank you Mark for your query, we would recommend setting two or three on constant speed or setting two on the proportional setting. Regards Lilly, Grundfos

Great video mate! I just installed the same pump at my home. It's a gravity system, 13 rads in total. Could I ask what would be the best setting for me to run the pump on? I have it on constant curve 2 at the minute. Thank you 🙂
