I cant remember the exact year but i've been there with a friend. During a Training Run, i crashed my Marzocchi Xc500 forke with 50mm of travel, but marzocchi race Service repared it, so that i could Start at the race next Day. A great time....
@@ol48spring not on those bikes. You took a beating on those things. It was still quite violent. I remember one downhill section where I knew where I wanted to go, let go of the brakes and let it rip. My head was bouncing around so much I couldn't see. Was just hoping to stay on the trail. Didn't try that again, surely lost a lot of brain cells with the brain bashing against the skull like that.
Yeah...me in my twens and shredding the hills with my GT LTS...or RTS...don't remember, I had both. I was auch a GT Fanboy 😂. Had the Karakoram, Zaskar LE, RTS and LTS ... and a GT Perforner BMX😂. I miss those days so much. 😭
@@danielstormy3660 Yes sure . . . try going round that bend at 23:10 without braking before . . . and you would certainly win ..... the open field face down in the soil :-)
I looked at the one of 2022 and yeah ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EZVy-Wrncyg.html But back in the day they were doing normal stuff with shitty hardware and that looked pretty extreme because of that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VzZkKE9Z35g.html
That’s one of the few bikes here I’m not that scared watching go downhill. That one looked fairly sturdy. Thee rest of them are riding off of what are basically Walmart forks lmfao their frames are good but half the shit slapped on them is ass
I believe that there are 90's downhill videos here on YT which are raced on full rigid. Try searching for the 1992 Grundig races. Many riders used full rigid.
I’m amazed seeing pro XC racers on rigid forks in 1993. Most everyone I knew was on Mag21s or Manitous by then. Sponsorships kept some pros from adopting the tech early, unfortunately.
I had a few colorful jerseys just because that was what I could get, but I tried to keep it black. I was the local punk/goth mountain biker in Alaska during the early 90s. I had one of the few black Fat Chance Yo Eddys to be seen (I ordered it that way).
same difficulty as with today's races. back then, they road so fast on a pretty tame tracks using sketchy bikes. you still have to go as fast as possible and a crash can take you out for a season. now, we ride very technical terrain with reliable brake system on the most forgiving and comfortable bikes ever. ride as fast as possible and can take you out for a season if you crash as well.
Now and then... this looks like a very xc for now, it s even hard to say it is xc. Man, you went on your bike and you were rocket, good memories, that s the most important thing.
Back then, because technical courses were too hard on bikes, they tried to make it more like Alpine skiing downhills; based on pure speed. There were some more technical courses, but they only became more common as the technology improved. P.S., I remember Regina Stiefl as a German downhiller from World Cup skiing. Sometimes I forget that she went into mountain biking after her WC career.
It's called evolution 🤔 I was racing XC then and still the odd race today .. If I had my XC bike today , back then .... I would have been a professional ! Back then , your XC bike was your down hill race bike too 🤭🤣 Cheers 🇿🇦
For all those commenting that this course looks pretty tame - even back then that was the opinion. Google Cap-D'ail to see a ridiculous course from the same era.
Not cool how future people make fun of these historical people and their bicycles..Ok we get it you have better bikes in 2020 and better clothing.. good for you! Enjoy them guess what people after you will be mocking you
These old FRAMES were good, sure. Great even. Slap modern top class 26 parts all over it and some disc brake adapters with top tier disc brakes, some good bars, grips, the works, you have a pretty good old school new school hardtail mix, But those parts… Lmfao they SCREAM sketchy. Was waiting for a fork to snap at any second. The suspension on them looks Walmart esque lmfao Idk how they did it. Balls of steel.
This is hilarious. No wonder their bikes could have minimal suspension. Those pads though. Damn. I bet I’ve had pedal strikes harder than anything they would have experienced lmao
Die Moderatoren waren zum einschlafen, da halfen die Hintergrundinformationen auch nicht. Wegen denen habe alle abgeschaltet und das Fernsehformat wurde eingestellt.
1991 muddyfox seeker mega, it's falling apart and is a size too large since it was my dad's bike back in the day but I'd be damned if it isn't fun as fuck to ride lmao
Magura Race Line... I'm still using those in my 95 rigid steel 26in mtb. However this bike is single speed these days I find it as perfect gravel bike.
i cant beleave how shitty mountainbikes were back then xD. ive doing mountainbiking for7months now and i think with my 120mm trailbike i could be one of the fastest at that race.
Don't think so. People crash today riding long slack bikes on 1,5 m. wide purpose build family friendly "trails" . Don't think you would smoke Tomac or Vouilloz just cause you got a modern bike 😉
Belive me, you wouldn't be in the Top 20 at least! I raced this course and know most of the contenter personally ,a bunch of bad asses! And look how the old guns shred today e.g. Nico Voullion! These race were highspeed races.
