There are 6 special jumping techniques used in motocross racing besides the basic techniques. The 6 special techniques are;
1.Launch it. L = aunch
2.Absorb on the throttle T = hrottle
3.Absorb on the decelD = ecel
4.Set BounceS = eat
5.WhipW = hip
6.ScrubS = crub
1 Launch it means - to get more height and distance.
2 Absorb on the throttle means - to absorb the jump in order to stay low but still get good distance.
3 Absorb on the decel - means to absorb the jump as you are slowing down in order to stay lower and get back on the ground fast.
4 Seat bounce means - to jump as you are sitting on the bike.
5 Whip means - to throw the bike sideways off the jump.
6 Scrub means - to slide the front wheel off the top of the jump.
Many beginner riders think they know the basics but I find through my schools that they dont know them well enough to understand and practice them correctly. This DVD delivers the important inside details so you can master jumping quickly and safely. It also goes on to include one of the 6 special jumping techniques (Launching). This part of the DVD will show you exactly how to get more height and distance out of a jump in order to clear the landing. This is most helpful when you have a jump right out of a corner or any time you need more height and distance. This DVD also shows and explains in detail how to stop getting sideways off jumps by accident. The other 5 MX jumping techniques will be coming soon.
Check it out. You Will Become a Better Rider.

With jumps, as well as a lot of things, I've found that I can do a lot of the experimenting on my computer. There's a program to be found called MX Simulator, which simulates all of the real physics behind riding a bike (including weight distribution, countersteer, gyro effects, etc.) Last winter, when it was impossible to ride here in Oregon, I spent a lot of my time on MX Simulator and found that I was a lot more confident (and fast) on my '82 Husky when we did the first ride of 2009.

What u are doing now is u maintain the steer bar to your chest for too long and as a result of that your front wheel is always too high. Try leveling the bike immediately after take off, that way u jump higher and fly distance is also extended.

@natedoggispimp It sounds like a suspension issue to me...try stiffing your suspension up bit by bit and see how that works out...it's what we call the "pogo" effect meaning that your suspension will actually spring you off the face of the jump, try it out but remember small tweaks...not major alterations are recommended here. you want to be between 5-8 clicks out from fully turned in. make sure your forks are set to the same setting otherwise premature fork wear will result.

Do you think that was Gary jumping on the video. I don't know? It would have been nice to see him roll up to the camera that way an old guy like me would say if he can do it so can I.

@MXRider479 Sit up on your bike further towards your tank stand up in your attack postion just as your leaving the jump and keep the throttle on a little then back on the gas when you land! you will get the feel for it just go for it nothing bad will happen

Gary, My hands get very fatigued after 10-15 minutes of riding. I'm in great shape and work out 4 days a week and ride 3 days. I'm thinking I may be to far back on the bike and should try to stay over the bars more? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos

I learned how to jump up to 70 foot doubles thats just gasing it and hitting with momentum but I never learned how to jump out of corners. There has got to be more to seat bouncing then gasing it hard on the lip and the controling your body position.

@MXRider479 then when your front end goes to high hold in your clutch and press the back braks for a second then let go of clutch and braks

People always told me to ride on the balls of my feet, but 5 months ago i broke the inside of my left ankle due to a hard landing. Anyway my question is when you have a hard landing do you put the foot peg more in the middle of your feet? This does feel more comfortable to me, but the problem with this is that i constantly hit the shift lever. What is the proper way to put your feet on the pegs so that you still have enough strength to absorb a rough landing?

@skidie35 be smooth on the jump when you hit it dont gas it at the top have a consistant hand on the gas and when u go back lean foward when u go foward lean back

In the past I've had a lot of problems controlling my bike during jumping, I don't know if it makes a difference but I only weigh about 130lbs, so the bike is a lot heavier than me. This doesn't happen all the time, but I also don't do big jumps, at least not often... I've had experiences in the past where my front end has come way high and vice versa with the endo problem... I've broken bones because of these mistakes. How can I practice technique without being too risky?

There's a huge step up at my local track. I usually don't go for it because for some reason, my bike always kicks out sideways when I take off. This caused me to crash pretty bad one time. What is it that makes the bike kick sideways and what can I do to take off straight? This is somewhat of a problem on all my jumps, but the step up is the worst.

I only ride 2 days a week and I workout 5 days a week and I have the same exact problem. I thought that ethier my grips sucked or my gloves were too tight but I think I'm just holding on too tight.

What is the proper foot position on the pegs? I've always been told to ride on the balls of my feet but 5 months ago i broke the inside of my left ankle because of this. It was a rough landing causing my my foot to over flex (if there is such a word). It feels more natural to have the pegs in the middle of my feet but the problem here is that i constantly hit the shift lever. Very annoying if you accidentally hit it in neutral while landing.

Hi Garry, Theres a jump at the track i practice at and it a step-up/table-top, the take off is steep like a supcross jump and everytime i do it my front tire jumps up nomatter what i do,what stance should i use. If i lean towards the rear tire and my front comes up and i seem to freeze and dont tap the rear brake, i came off once doing it and nearly snapped my wrist so i want to get it rite this time. Thanks in advance

@bonsai13100 hey buddy, well on a 2 stroke its all diffrent cuz i have a yz85 that i race an a yz125 up at my other property and i ask this to all my freinds but.. on a 2 stroke you wanna be over the "powerband" or you wanna be like to the point your about to shift right of the jump and have you body a lil foward then half way so you can keap it straight and you can hit the jump going slow but it has to be in a high gear or else the "powerband" will lunch you.. practice it! good luck bro

how old are u is the big thing if your young take some risks but not to big because u can take a hit but ,if your older than be more cautious because it will come back and bite u but what u want to do is start small and work your way up first roll the jump to see it then u jump it 1/4 way then 1/2 way then u can try to clear it if ur ready

gradually build up your speed and hit the jump in the attack position. use the momentom from ur speed and REMEMBER to blip the throttle when your at the top of the jump (then ur front tire wont drop) and stand in the attack position(over the middle of the bike), gradually built ur confidence and PRACTICE :):):)
