Genuine Soundware (GSI) has a long history of bringing us great sounding instruments. VB3-II is the latest product from Guido Scognamiglio and is a result of combining decades of experience in hardware/software modeling to re imagined one of the most beloved virtual tone wheel instruments.
In this walk through I take you through the interface and explore the sound of the instrument. Stick around until the end for some fun.
Here is an MP3 of the jam session at the end of the video: bit.ly/vb32jam
If you have any questions please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to follow up.
VB3-II is available for €100 If you already own VB3 you can upgrade for €75
For more information visit: www.genuinesoundware.com
Here is a brief list of features (from the GSI website):
* Full polyphony (61 upper + 61 lower + 25 pedals = 147 notes)
* 91 modeled tonewheels with accurate phase synchronization
* Adjustable leakage noise and cross modulation between
tonewheels
* A total of 22 different tonewheel generators to choose from
Generator shaping for a total of 154 generator combinations
* Adjustable global tuning from 430 to 450 Hz
* Foldback on 16" deactivatable
* Complex wheels
* Resistor wiring with multiple options
* Realistic “run” motor wow & flutter
* Busbars and 9 key contact simulation
...and many more.

LOL! You're a Tyros 5 organist too! I have VB3, which, other than studio use, I run through an old MUSE receptor, but for most gigs I just run the T5 through a Neo Vent on a sub output. I just wish T5 sliders transmitted midi CC. ugh. BTW, if you want to trick out your T5 with some Hammond-esk drawbar end caps I know a guy on Reverb!

Great video Simeon! I bought the original VB3 but have to say I'm disappointed by the upgrade price on offer. As a mac user, I feel that I have been abandoned by the developer for what feels like many, many years. A more attractive upgrade price might have offered some compensation for this! As things stand, I'll be sticking with my BX3.

I love this, but if you run it through Melda's MVintage Rotary, IK Multimedia's Leslie, or a Neo Ventilator for live use, it is LITERALLY the perfect Hammond sound! I've used VB-3 for 12 years now and LOVE IT! I didn't realize how much more advanced and flexible than the original version 2 is. I'd felt the former was perfect. It is definitely worth the upgrade, though, I still find use for the original, which is a testament to both products.

Great vid and playing! Wow! I'm having trouble while setting up the sustain and volume pedal. Basically the vst won't recognize neither of those. I tried with learn midi function but it does not respond. Weird thing, when I plugged the jack of my FCV100 volume pedal inside the exp in on my kaway MP7, the volume knob of the vst gets to the max... when I unplug it it goes to the min. No control whatsoever when it stays plugged in. Any help? Thank you so much
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 5 лет назад
Thanks so much Paolo. There is a setting in VB3-II where you can enable the sustain pedal. One theory on the volume pedal is that the value being sent out from your controller might be inverted. I will see if I can find anything on the MP7; it might be that the control MIDI out channel might be different.

@PraiseTracks

Thanks so much for watching. I think it might be how the button itself is set up. The nanoKONTROL Editor allows you to assign the “state” of the button to either momentary or toggle on/off; I think that might be why it is not sticking. I might could do a short demo showing this.

What are the specific keyboards you are using? Typically VB3 II by default is set up for the Upper Manual to be assigned to Channel 1, Lower Channel 2 and Bass Pedals Channel 3. It seems the transmit channel on the second keyboard needs to be assigned to transmit on channel 2. I use an Arturia Microlab controller for the bass pedals and have it set to transmit on channel 3. It should since it sends out MIDI Controller messages that can be mapped in most virtual instruments. I will have to check if I can get a copy of Arturia’s version. The D9-X seems to work for the most part with other drawbar organs I have tried with a few exception to map some of the specific button co trolls (vibrato, harmonics, etc.). I agree. ->Full drawbars out sounds different than with previous versions, more high harmonics than before. ***That’s probably the harshness you’re talking about. The highest drawbars don’t quit like on my old Hammonds. I’ve been a VB3 user since 2009, and my favorite version is the previous VB3 v1.4. I’ve been tweaking on VB3-II for about a month now, and can’t get the Leslie to sound as real as v1.4’s Leslie. I’m also looking for more of a rock sound like Walsh used on early James Gang. Still haven’t gotten there.

The make-over and reprogramming just doesn‘t feel right. And when I‘m listening to Simeon it confirms me. It doesn‘t sound right to me. I will have a listen to IK Multimedia B3X. @PraiseTracks

Thanks for watching. Probably the best and most direct way is to use the MIDI learn within VB3-II itself. I find Mainstage can be a little confusing sometimes in regard to learning and assigning MIDI Control Change Messages. I probably need to take a look on my MacBook and see what other possibilities are in doing this in Mainstage. When you Right Click on one of the VB3-II controls you want to map you will see the current MIDI Controller assignment values you can use those to help setup the Mainstage control parameters.
