It's still a little difficult to determine just how good Serral actually is. Him dominating in WCS is impressive, but the GSL is undoubtedly at the next level. Having now seen him handle Innovation and Dark... he is putting doubts to rest. The man might be the best zerg in the world at the moment.
If he does win against Stats, he'll have won the GSL vs. The World tournament by beating pretty much the best Terran, Zerg, and Protoss in Korea in back-to-back series, and have more WCS points than the next five or six players on the Circuit. Some people will question it because he didn't beat Maru, but come on, Maru isn't as invincible as it seems, based on his 3-2 against soO and 1-3 against Stats. What will be interesting is the Maru vs. Serral match at the very end of the tournament. It's a Bo1, so it doesn't mean much (anyone can beat anyone in a Bo1), but if Serral does win it, there will be no more questions. Serral will be the best player in the world. If Serral loses, well, people will continue to speculate endlessly about what would've happened in a Maru vs. Serral final series. Debates will rage, but it'll be really hard to argue with Serral's tournament performance.
Josef Blank, he isn't wrong. Grrrr was strong - but he never was 'winning every single WCS major tournament in the entire year, then going to a GSL and winning the event too' strong, not close. There hasn't been a foreigner that I can ever remember, and I have watched the scene for a very long time - that has had the kind of year Serral has. Sure, some of them had great years, won some items, and others - but it wasn't nearly as dominant of a fashion as this.
Ethereal Hunterling, with all due respect to those people, no - they weren't this kind of threat that Serral is. Non of them where what might be considered Bonjwa - Serral is. So no, Idra HuK, Naniwa, Scarlett - even at their best were not at such a high level.
The details on Serrals play is magnificent for example look at 47:30 the spine is blocking the left side instead of the right side meaning Dark is forced to mine from the mineral patches where there are less minerals forcing Dark to make a hole to his own base
[spoiler] WOW! Stats vs Serral... who could've imagined it? An actual foreigner vs korean finals in the GSL vs the world event.. amazing. And also, Stats finally killing the terran king. This has been an amazing tournament already.
Now that SC is dying slowly because of stupid FPS games being popular, its nice to see a champion like never before. The best player the world has ever seen. No one has done what Serral has done....WCS Montreal will be the Milestone for Serral. He will be honored the best ever
I love how they were building Dark up to be an untouchable god. I heard Serral won the turrny but against Dark like this... Oh my fucking God this feels so fucking good.
Serral would be more happy about defeating every Korean across the world then winning a world championship. Also, we’ve seen how Serral plays against Toss. That’s saying A LOT.
"We have Korean's, We have non-Koreans And then we have Serral." FIRST ITS WCS NEXT ITS GSL NOW ONTO BLIZZCON... THE SERRAL'S JUGGERNAUT WARSHIP COMETH TO PLUNDER AND TAKE YOUR GOLD ALIKE. RIP Dark Also the announcer guy at the end looked like he wanted to punch Serral in the face wtf?
spoiler: I don't remember the last time there was this much of a match upset. The non korean sc2 progamers feel like their only coming into their own now. I hope serral does not lose his nerve after seeing how much expectation people are placing on him.
If he didn't lose his nerve facing INnoVation and Dark, I don't think he's going to suddenly lose his nerve against Stats. He's well used to the big stages by now, with his current streak of tournament wins and taking down legendary Koreans. If anything, I think Stats is more likely to feel the pressure as Korea's honor is at stake, and he's said already that he doesn't feel too confident against Zerg (and this is when he expected to possibly face Dark).
Actually finns were considered non-white for their "mongolian" roots back in the day in USA. So you kind of have a point. Well, even when finns are whiter than the whites in USA :p
All year people have been saying "how well will he do vs the top Koreans on home turf?" We've got our answer. His ZvP vs a defensive protoss is best in the world. Stats will need to get cheesey to win this finals
Keep in mind that Serral does not usually lose to cheese, he can play a defensive yet economic style the moment a quick all in or rush is detected and his previous match vs has in Wcs was good practice for this
who cares if he is foreign or not, serral is good. though i must say, most other foreign players in this tournament are on average weaker than serral and the korean players.
I suppose it's a bit like boxers who say dumb shit before they get bopped. Koreans sc2 players tend to smack talk. Maybe they're encouraged to. Serral just gets on with it.
Looking at how rouge performed against innovation and comparing it to what serral did to him, it seems artosis doesn`t want to see how insanely good serral is
ikki itsuki Maru isn't taking it seriously until it's the Koreans against the foreigners. Maru owns Serral countless time especially since the latest top tournament WESG where Maru slapped and own Serral!! But those fan boys are pretty funny!!
I wonder, does the commentors control the ingame "camera" themselves? or they comment the game based in someone else moving the ingame "camera" and what is happening?
There is an observer, who is actually Shine, the pro from StarCraft broodwar. The casters have no control over which areas of the map and situations in the match are seen
Yeah I realized that with the time. The casters are good regardless. My only bother is how in korea tournaments the "show hp and energy bar" option is disabled. But in Montreal tournament is on. I prefer it on of course but I guess thats upto the observer.
43:22 hit that from the back, or you can hit it from behind 43:44 that's how i like to play staar craft. i leave my defenses open so some one can hit thaat from the back
Can some one please teach the Korean broadcasting noobs to not use songs with lyrics while some one is being interviewed its not only bm it also makes it hard to understand what the person being interviewed is saying ( teach em basic radio/tv boradcasting logic rly >_
Very surprised that Dark loses. I mean Serral is the one of the best zerg but dark is one of a kind. Tactics of z v z in Korea is kinda simplified these days so that's the one reason. And it is during GSL so maybe dark doesn't want to show his tactics here rather than show off
