No such thing as a perfect fighter but I know what you mean, arguably the greatest of all time but there’s definitely holes in his game just like khabib. Even if we programmed a fighter and gave them the best genetics, skills, dedication and gave them the best stand up and the best ground game we still don’t know a lot of techniques. Like when Conor pulled that shoulder strike on Donald Cerrone we had never seen that before in the cage. It’s similar to anything. Like even in sales people who have done it for 20yrs can learn something new, a bricklayer can learn something new after doing it for 40yrs. An old dog can learn new tricks that saying is my least favourite
You can’t help but laugh at that part, you can tell Rogan’s genuinely enjoying himself too, it’s too bad he got colitis and had to retire…would have loved to seen him vs Whittaker or someone else at least make one title defense at MW but, oh well. He said fasting for 3 day stints helped cure his colitis
Yeah you have a point. There's still some really great guys in there. The thing that worries me is how much attention is given to someone like Colby Covington. Is the next generation of fighters going to look like that?
Adam Ant Colby convinton is just trying to promote himself and make money.. Remember when bisping started everyone hated his guts.. he fought hard and gained everyone's respect.. it's just a gimmick.
"they don't care, they don't care you know the effect that I have on the universe is so freakin small nobody cares I'm the only one putting the pressure on me nobody gives a damn about it" Really wise words. We've heard the same gist before, but the way GSP says it is very simple and makes sense.
I love his attitude towards fighting. I am just a hobbyist who trains a few times a week, and I sometimes let my ego get inflated by the fact that I train. At the end of the day though, fighting is not the be all and end all. Honestly, sometimes I chuckle thinking about how silly fighting can be. The UFC definitely inflates the hype. All that being said, I hope to keep training for years to come, simply because it's fun.
There are plenty of super talented fighters (fighters ppl think are more naturally talented) that have gone through GSP’s same camp and failed to come close to what he’s done. He’s successfully convinced ppl he’s not as special as he actually is.
Some people fall for the bullshit of braggarts who are just covering for severe shortcomings, people like nthem because they're similiarly lacking. McGregor is a prime example of this, talented striker but in grappling and ground grappling severely lacking which is why he looked for a way out of fighting Nurmagomedov by attacking that bus and injuring people.
@@TheRedRuin not necessarily its just a matter of someone being better than him. You can only do your best but eventually someone else best will be better than yours.
Love that guy. I am into MMA only since it’s all over my feed because I listen to Joe Rogan. GSP is impressive to me in every way. His mind and heart are as strong and stable as his stance when fighting.
GSP is a a fucking class act. His accent, humility, outlook, stories, just a cool cat. And those little nuggets he imparts are relevantno matter who you are or where you are in life. Love that shit
3:45 I can definitely relate to that. I literally dropped out of high school and quit competing for like 5 years just running from my anxiety, but of course it only made stuff much worse. The only thing that finally helped was realizing how selfish that mindset was, the world does not revolve around me or any individual. Yeah some people in life show support and others even show some hate or doubt, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter to them.
Im 25 now an have been watching the ufc more than any sport since i was a kid or a young teen. I went from very much not likeing G.S.P. to by the time i was 18 or 19 when i think he was comeing close to the end of his career i started to respect him a bit. An now i honestly at 25 think this guy is an honest beast/legend/hall of famer in my book an deserves alot of respect.
@@dragonfighter786 Why'd you guys not like him? Was it his fighting style? I remember a lot of people saying he was boring because of how he employed wrestling in there.
@@TheTrueRaph idk man I looked at him as a person who was so boring. I was young and stupid. I still am. But I've learned a lot as I grew. And that makes GSP in my opinion the goat
George is deep.. part of what makes him so likeable is his introspection...he conquered all the fame and glory..you know how he won...by walking away...
Here at last is a man with the mind of a general and the heart of a poet! Always fun to hear Georges talk about his career and his worldview in general.
I learned the same thing in my 30's and wish I had learned it sooner. Screw pride, it gets in the way. Relax, do the right thing, and if your consistently doing the right thing and being polite and respectful and kind then who cares if somebody doesnt like you, who cares if you make a mistake. Dust yourself off learn from it and move on.
I remember reading "Infinite Jest" by David foster Wallace, and one of the most comforting quotes in the book was along the lines of; " think of how often you think about your best friend... its not very often is it?" "Now think about the most embarrassing thing your best friend has ever done... when was the last time you ever thought of it? Yer a long time ago and not very often." so dont worry about what other people think your best friend barley even thinks about you, your free relax.
Why is Joe so shocked that GSP understands that the world doesn’t revolve around MMA or fighting in the UFC? Of course he takes it very seriously, it’s his health on the line, but in reality whether you win or lose in competition the world will keep spinning, life will go on and you still go home to your friends and family and the people who actually love and care for you
It’s very hard to get to the top of the top of the top without being obsessive to the point where there’s not much else to you besides MMA (Jon Jones) but GSP has always just been a super athlete and a freak of nature so it’s different for guys like him
It's easy to get caught up on the success train and lose perspective. GSP is very unique. He is like Michael Jordan but gifted with a happy life outside of work.
I don't know if he necessarily doesn't understand. I think he's doing his job to highlight why his guest's words are remarkable/interesting. His podcasts wouldn't feel that great if he just constantly acts like his guests are stating the obvious
I thought about it for a bit. Maybe GSP didn't become the best by focusing on being the best in the world, moreso by being the best HE could be when he versed every opponent. And eventually bodies stacked up and he's on top of them all.
For me, Georges will always be the GOAT. Not just because of his record in the ring, but because of who he is outside the ring. He brings a class, a humility and a realness that I admire so much
George got it perfectly how it's working, and that's why he's one of the greatest. His biggest weapon is his mind and how he approached the problems faced.
He has a great philosophy towards fighting. I can understand why he puts so much pressure on himself to be perfect because of his OCD, but the mindset of taking the fight too seriously can be too mentally exhausting.
I wish you will share more of your knowledge and experience with us. You are a true warrior and hunest person. And this comment is for both George and Joe. 2 amazing personalitys.
This logic can be applied to pretty much all major events in our lives. Win, lose or draw, only a very small number of people will care and even less will remember. No need to put too much pressure.
"You have to take it for what it is." Something that earn you more in a single day than most people will ever come close in a lifetime? That's PRETTY fucking big GSP.
I listen to this whenever I am on my way to something I am nervous about. It helps me deal with the pressure. I listened to it in the way to my first boxing session 8 months ago. I listen to it today as I'm on the way to my army officer selection day.
