Gstaad is a village in the Swiss municipality of Saanen, located in the canton of Bern. It is a ski resort and a holiday resort frequented by the international elite of wealth and birth (the "jet set"), even by renowned artists (for example: Roman Polanski in 2010).
The village is located on the borders of the former county of Gruyère, dependent on the House of Savoy, in the administrative district of Haut-Simmental-Gessenay.
From the 19th century, the village became a place of tourism.
In 1947, Richard Nikolaus de Coudenhove-Kalergi founded the European Parliamentary Union in Gstaad.
