can we acknowledge the fact that we are HIGH SCHOOL kids and some are in middle school, and that we’re not going to be this all perfect band like we’re professionals 🙃
That’s the problem with this generation now. Too many excuses. Attention to detail and fundamentals aren’t a professional thing. Those are the basics. This was an absolute piss poor product. Parents worked hard to get their kids there and this is the product they get? “Do it right do it light, do it wrong do it all night long”.
🤔This is for those who continue to speak negatively about these kids and how they sound. I think too many of you who r speaking so negatively are lookin at this wrong. You’re commenting based on your expectation that they sound just like the college level hbcu band simply because they’re bein lead and taught by the Grambling directors and student leaders. Let me remind you, they only had ONE WEEK(6 days to b exact with the 7/8days for final performance) to both learn and memorize several pieces of music, and not just for marching but also for concert. Also, these are not just high school, they are also 5th and middle school with many of them having never marched and played instruments at the same time. Moreover, imagine having to rise just before the sun, make your way all the way from dorms to the performance facility/field to do calisthenics Before breakfast, then go to practice said music/marching(all under the hot/humid sun) then back to dorms for rest, before returning in the evening for more practice then back for lights out around 9-11(depending when practice completes). And doin all that every day. So obviously they’re also exhausted. I personally think they sounded good for the short time they had to learn everything and being so tired during all of it. And that’s not jus me bein biased because my son was in it again(he’s a junior now), they.sounded.and looked.good. So mayb cut them some slack and just applaud their efforts and the fact that this is what they wanted to do instead of bein idle and gettin into trouble.
Great job to the kids at band camp 23 at GSU outstanding job a special thanks to the GSU band director and staff great job the kids were awesome thanks to u. Kesean will be back next year he had a very good time high school band camp 24 also future gram family band members
For all the negative people grow up and get a life misery loves company this band camp was a success so dont hate number 1 band in the land HBCU go Tigers
Believe it or not some middle school bands actually sound pretty good. But u have to keep n mind these kids only had 1 wk to learn AND memorize all the music for the marching, concert and jazz band performances, not to mention the dances on the field…In a WEEK. So I for one think they sounded and looked awesome for all the work they had to put in in such a short amount of time, and doin so while hot and fatigued from workin so hard durin sun up to sundown👏🏾 So u may wanna keep some opinions to urself instead of sittin behind a screen and insulting these young people, who include My son and his friend, and jus applaud them for doin something good. I didn’t load this video for ppl to get on and harshly criticize the kids. Thanks for watchin tho👍🏾
All-star band vs band camp. All-star= cream of the crop/college ready. Band camp = all levels that want to develop and become leaders at their respective schools. In either case you come back energized and have small network that you will compete and fellowship with for life.
@@musiclvr1able Coming from a high school band director, who is also a former band student, I understand that there is a process so I understand that where these kids are now, they will continue to develop over the next few years. For me, it's more of the audio quality of the video, but I can manage. These students will flourish and will be fine.
@@JOSHUASMITH-ey5qk appreciate your positive feedback. Im a former band student as well, and my son is a part of this camp, which is why it’s so disheartening to read so many negative comments against them. Im sorry for the sound quality; I recorded this using my phone, but I’m sure the real cameras used by staff down on the field have uploaded too so you may be able to see/hear it better.
Not trashing the kids but they were supposed to try to teach techniques but they didn't do a very good job director, it seems like they are not taking the education part serious as a teacher. The summer band camp always disappoints me from this particular high school clinic . Give the kids their money's worth. I know that staff can do better because the new director has them sounding 200 percent better than years past honestly this is embarrassing
It was 6days of music reading and learning the moves for the field performance, then performing said music on the 7th and 8th days. But despite the time limit, the heat, and their grade levels (they’re high school with some middle and 5th grd mixed in)these kids did well, especially for havin to learn and memorize several music pieces each day starting at 5am and ending around 9pm.
