GT Goku Is A Better Character Than Super Goku ! 

I understand that Zeno was going to erase all the universes without there being a tournament. Idk how I forgot that during the making of the video.. silly me. What I should have said was Goku came up with a reckless idea of making all the universes fight… which in itself is still selfish and dangerous for everyone.. sorry guys and girls 🤦🏾‍♂️

GT Goku is the true veteran. What I love is that he's no-nonsense. He respects his opponents, but when it came to Super 17 and Omega Shenron, in both of those fights there were actually times where Goku grabbed them and said he would just blow himself up to kill them if that's what he had to do. That's something Z Goku never would've said. I like how GT Goku isn't about fighting for fun; he's been doing this for years, and he'll do whatever he has to do to keep these guys from destroying the Earth. Also, GT's ending is literally the true ending, and trashes on any other Dragon Ball ending. You see Goku with Master Roshi and Krillin. Roshi met them as kids, and now Krillin's an old man, ha ha. Goku says goodbye to Piccolo, Yamcha and Tien see him off. When Goku flies off on the Nimbus and says, "Until we meet again, guys!" you could not have a more perfect conclusion.

That scene of goku walking through the crowd at the world tournament at the end of GT legit made me cry

I've finally been giving GT a proper watch after years of putting it off and I 100% agree. Goku feels truer to his years of character development in GT than he ever does in Super.

I agree..I loved the progression Goku went through as a character in DBZ..this became clear towards the end of the Cell saga and especially prominent in the Buu saga..he had matured/took life very seriously in layed back humble way..and when he turned ssj3 you could see how serious he truly was...I miss this Goku who became the man he was through experience..this is one of the reasons I love the fan manga's..GT wasn't perfect but since Super I've come to appreciate it..also I prefer the traditional super saiyan forms along with 4 and the unseen 5 hands down over the gimmicky imitations of God forms.

This is so true. Think about it. If not for Goku, you wouldn't have had the Androids or Cell. And had Goku not returned to Earth, he never would've fought Vegeta and revived Buu, while Vegeta and Gohan probably would've been able to handle Dabra and Babidi. Then at the end of Z, he leaves his family for 5 YEARS to go train Uub. Sounds scummy, but it makes some sense. He wanted someone who was human that could protect Earth in his stead. Then we have Super 17, who's return is a direct result of Goku's actions, both in Z and GT. To think destroying the RR Army would've eventually led to Hell and Earth merging.. Then the Shadow Dragons are born because of the really dumb wishes Goku and company have made throughout the decades, punishing them for their lack of respect. By the way, this was something that they did not learn in Super. I see a lot of really stupid wishes being made.. Overall GT Goku just makes more sense. It's a Goku that is trying to get out of the game, but he can't. The past keeps coming back. So after Omega is defeated, he knows it's best for everyone if he just goes away. It's the perfect ending to his story.

It makes me sad to see how they’ve tarnished the character of Goku. He used to be a martial artist with morels and motives you could understand and look up to. He used to be someone who cared for everyone even the innocent people of ever planet who he had no knowledge of. He used to be skillful and brave and now he’s just plain stupid and it saddens me. You can’t look up to the character anymore, he’s just a shell of the once great hero he used to be

It's becoming ever so rarer that I see someone give Dragon Ball GT a fair shake. A lot of people hate it and prefer Super, but I'm not one of those people, and while GT isn't perfect, it did make me like the characters a lot more than I would ever like them in Super. I actually did watch Super not too long ago, and... yeah, it just made my head hurt with how badly the characters were written. In Super, the characters felt like seeing an old friend from high school, only to find out they literally have not changed at all, as if they peaked during their high school days. In GT, it felt like the characters grew and were handled with much more respect. I get not everyone will like GT, but I sadly just couldn't bring myself to like Super. It's just that bad to me.

There’s a book called The Once and Future King, about the life of King Arthur. The one Disney’s The Sword in the Stone is based on (well, it’s based on the first part, of course). I really love that book. What’s it got to do with Goku and Dragon Ball? Well, in the book, before his last battle, an old Arthur is visited again by Merlin, who makes him go through his childhood adventures again (even offering to literally turn him back in to a child, although Arthur refuses) in order to rekindle his spirit and prepare him for his last trial, his confrontation with his worst mistake, his evil son Mordred, after which Arthur will leave the world with a magical creature. And perhaps, one day, he might return. Like, noticing anything? This is exactly what Goku goes through in DBGT. He relives his very first childhood adventure in the space trip saga. He defeats what is arguably his worst enemy, the Oozaru that lives within himself, in the Baby saga, thus earning the right to go back to his adult state (Ssj4) stronger and wiser than ever. And finally, after taking responsibility and making up for his and the Z Warriors’ worst mistake - their abuse of the Dragon Balls - he leaves the world with a magical creature. And perhaps, one day, he might return. In short words, GT quite literally concludes Goku’s story by turning him into a mythological hero. That is why, I think, despite its undeniable flaws and it being technically worse than DB and Z, it resonates with people so deeply. Super has none of that, no actual story, no deeper meaning, it’s just a surface level sitcom where the characters fight rather than having coffees and going on dates.

Lets not forget that GT Goku is overall smarter. Don't get me wrong, Goku can be an airhead, lax, and a bit of a fool... OUTSIDE of battle. But when IN battle, he's serious, he knows stakes, and he's fighting genius. To be silly and stuff outside of battle is warranted, there's nothing wrong, no threat and you're just chilling. It shows how easy going and light-hearted Goku can be when the earth isn't in danger. But otherwise, if there's a threat, then you see that game face go on. The best way to show the difference between the 2 Gokus is both of them sparring Frieza. Z spared him out of the good of his heart, DESPITE his rage. Super spared him because of his naivety.

Dragon Ball GT is my favorite DB series and Goku in GT is my favorite version of Goku

I'd also like to make the argument that SSJ4 aesthetic-wise is way more creative than constantly changing hair color. SSJ4 feels like a final/true form for the Saiya-jin race it blends the base form with the oozaru form. It feels final and complete.

Dude is speaking facts! While he may not be perfect, GT’s incarnation of Goku is very loyal to it’s predecessor. Super is just a reckless imitation, but he does have his moments. That being said they are very minimal and inconsistent, only plausible because he has literal gods and angels babysitting him. Smh You made a valid point dude, pros for that!

As a massive GT fanboy, lets have a look at this rant 4:24 ...... Goku's not doing lots different in GT though. He holds back his power against General Rildo (okay, that was part of a bigger plan, noted). He does not go full power against Oceanus Shenron to finish her off but enjoys the fight. He doesn't go full strength against Nuova Shenron until Nuova goes full power (granted Goku could feel that Nuova was not a real threat and was kind of a good dragon. Goku doesn't go SSJ4 against Super 17 immediately either, he tries SSJ first. He even straight up tells Goten and Trunks not to fuse as it wouldn't work according to him (despite Base Trunks actually hitting Omega Shenron with a kick and blinding him with a ki explosion surrounding him) Also we can also show that Z-Goku is even worse at this than in GT. 1. Fights with Majin Vegeta, threatens the Supreme Kai who stands in their way, knows what it could lead to and puts the earth in danger anyway. He cares more about Vegeta's pride than the earth, so he witholds SSJ3 from him as well thus they battle, Vegeta betrays him and after the fight all the energy they released goes to Buu's hatch who's awakened at 100% strength. 2. Goku rather fights Kid Buu unfused, BREAKS the Portara rings just like Vegeta does even though a Gogeta fusion in SSJ (base is too weak) would end Kid Buu quickly. He could also have used the dragonballs to wish for Gotenks and Ultimate Gohan to come to Kai Planet (he said himself, he wanted the other generations to take over from him) 3. Goku puts everything at risk to let Gohan fight Cell and throws a senzu bean at Cell..... Like, what the hell? Gohan had to endure all this pain and even lose his father while all Goku had to do was not wait around to finish Cell off after the IT Kamehameha. All because Goku enjoyed fighting Cell for a while. 4. Goku let Vegeta live despite the danger it would pose for the earth. Luckily, Vegeta became an ally and turned good later. 5. Goku claims to have been able to finish off Majin Buu at SSJ3 but didn't and was only stalling for Trunks, then he says he wants to put that responsiblity to the future generations (TWO literal KIDS who aren't there in terms of power except for when they fuse and a Gohan who wants to study and make babies with Videl). 6. Even letting Piccolo live could've been a mistake, but that turned out good anyway. 7. Goku literally does rock-paper scisscors all the time with Vegeta and Gohan in the Babidi and Buu Sagas to deterimine who can fight a strong opponent, as they still enjoy it too much. 8. Also a dick move : Stopping Gohan from rescuing Videl from Spopovitch. For the plot, this wouldn't have mattered in any way. 9. In fact I find a disgusting idea that Supreme Kai let Gohan be used as Guinea Pigs to have his SSJ2 power stolen by the Yamu and Spopovitch henchmen when they could've easily have found Babidi on their own.

My headcanon explanation for Goku becoming dumber is that all the head injuries/shots have finally taken their toll and given severe brain damage which has caused him to devolve.

I find it funny that in DBS Goku only wants to get stronger and fight stronger people. While someone like Vegeta fights to get stronger so he can protect his family.

to be fair, any character that is willing to leave everyone he knows behind in order for them to be safe will always be a more compelling character than someone who is always ready to fight. the problem is, that type of character doesn't allow the author to write a lot of stories, which is why goku leaving earth happens at the end of gt, because there's almost no story left to tell.

I find Super Goku annoying. I like Xeno Goku more because he's a variant of GT Goku. My favourite moment in the DB hero's anime was when Xeno Goku showed up for the first time and was so focused on capturing Fu. He only fought Super Goku so the impact of their fight could brake the barrier around the planet.

the difference between gt and super is that super goku is just a couple years older than he was in z and outside frieza, there’s been no threat in years. when he was dead in z, he was training and fighting people in other world tournaments, in super, he just sit around and does nothing so why do you think he wants to fight. and he’s confident enough that him and his friends can win and beat anyone, no matter the challenge. the protagonist is supposed to think that way. goku has been fight first since dragon ball, and only uses his head when it’s time to protect people. there’s peace and no conflict in future.

Honestly GT is just a more consistent show overall, the story flows better and the arcs feel connected and go into each other naturally, the characters are more consistent especially Goku who doesn't randomly become and idiot for no reason like Super Goku does, also the animation and its quality are consistent throughout as well, I genuinely believe GT is the superior show.

I’m glad GT respect is coming back. Even myself I blindly said gt sucked and is nothing but after the hype of super passed I can fully see how much of a mess it did the characters, specially vegeta and goku.

You know, I have to agree with this, including the Vegeta video. The character differences are really noticeable. The first time I watched Super I was like, "this seems really out of character for Goku, but maybe there's a twist coming up that makes it right", but it never came. From the very beginning, Goku was "pure of heart", thus able to ride the Flying Nimbus, but the Super version of him would fall right through it, or it wouldn't obey his summons to begin with. Maybe he tried at some point the series, but I stopped watching when I finally concluded that Goku was not the same and the champion I once respected was gone. GT was chock full of issues, for sure, though. I remember thinking how silly it was that in the space arc with Trunks, Goku and Pan, would find themselves in trouble and not one single Super-Saiyan (saiyajin, if preferred) happened. It was boring and took a while to get interesting. It all seemed like a weird side story from the early Dragon Ball days. For me, like with many others, DB/DBZ peaked at the Cell Saga and became rougher in quality as time went by. I love Majin Buu now, but at the time, especially after seeing Cell in his perfect form, I was like, WTF is this big pink candy eating toddler doing here? Anyway, as far as character development went, I think GT went deeper and better with some of their characters, even if the series as a whole was sub-par. Great video!

GT goku is the same with his saiyan battle instinct but he uses it in a more matured manner so he can PROTECT more people. His ultimate decision was definitely proof of this maturity and his character’s development through Z. Super goku thinks of fights as a plaything pretty much, yes he wants to get stronger but he’s like a little kid crying to his mom to give him that new toy no matter what happens. Then he’s definitely stupider in regular situations other than fighting so there’s that. It’s as if they undid ALL the character development goku has through Z.

Completely agree. For me this is one of the big deciders: In Super when Future Trunks tells Goku that Future Bulma was killed by Goku Black; he barely reacts (kudos to Vegeta's quiet rage though). All he cares about is "ooh strong guy in the future." In GT when Goku finds Bulma under Baby's control and she glares at him and says that she hates him; he is visibly hurt and that drives him to stop Baby even more to free his friends. In Super, Goku was the one of the worst parts of the show, I couldn't stand him. In GT though, he was fantastic.

I'm kinda disturbed how Goku is even shittier now as a grandfather in the recent superhero movie. GT at least made it clear that Goku was there for Pan's early childhood. It was that memory Pan used to snap goku's sanity back. Enabling him to complete the SSJ4 transformation.

Remembering that Goku GT was recognized as the great savior of the universe not only by earthlings, and we finally saw MrSatan tell the truth about Goku and his heroic deeds, not to mention that the film where he appears in the world of mortals helps his great-grandson It brought a few tears to my eyes when I saw it for the first time.

Why do people keep bringing up the Omni King's plan to destroy all of existence except for universes 1, 12, 5, and 8 as being Goku's fault? It was going to happen anyway. The Tournament of Power was their chance to avoid that. Goku didn't doom the multiverse, he saved it. If any Universe other than 7 had won the ToP, a selfish wish would have been made, and it would have been as if the tournament never happened. Not only by insisting the Tournament go forward, but also by recruiting who he did, Goku saved the multiverse. Now, Goku didn't know this when he asked for the Tournament to happen. He didn't know anything about any stakes or plans interwoven in this. I'll give you that Super Goku is reckless in his love of fighting, but if you're going to assign to him the blame for circumstances he wasn't privy to, I think it's only fair to also assign to him the credit for the ultimate result his string of choices leading up to the ToP as well.

Course he’s better, since the Goku from DBGT is the same as the one we saw in DBZ. DBZ Goku has far more character development than the version of Super.

I think canon extremists forget gt in base form had a kamehameha destroy the dimension he was trapped in (that rigged dice game) and an entire dimension is the equivalent to a plane of existence, and that's only something zeno accomplished.

Goku also has a massive increase in IQ when he transforms into SSJ4, he becomes more serious and calculating. SSJ4 is not just a ki transformation is a whole body transformation that affects the bones, skin and mental capability. SSJ4 skin can stand the temperate of the surface of the sun.

Did you know: Sean Schemmel (VA of Goku) passed out while Screaming for the SS4 Transformation because he didn't calculate how much 0xygen he'd need for it.

So the morale of this video is: DBS is just a failed representation of GT as in Super is like GT but far worse, since it puts Goku's Saiyan nature far too much on the spotlight as mentioned in the video. . I feel like Toriyama put GT as non-canon because of the hate from the fans and not himself. So he & the company had to rewrite the story of GT to appease the community, only to have said fandom split itself apart in the process. . This rewritten story is Dragonball Super itself I mean why else would they bring back Pan that was originally from GT? I completely agree, GT Goku is a better PERSON, but Super Goku is a better GOKU. Let me explain, Akira Toriyama stated that he never wanted Goku to be a good person, that was never his intention. He made Goku out to be selfish and self-centered person who fights for his own enjoyment and not for others. It was Akira Toriyamas little "poison" that he added to him. The DBZ anime painted out Goku to be a righteous hero which Toriyama was not a fan of. Super Goku is basically Goku reverting to his poisonous traits that Toriyama gave him.

As for the rest of the cast I feel like it is better. Although gohan, goten, and trunks (present and a little bit of future) just feel lack luster in super including the super manga

I also love the growth in character GT Goku has and even understand it better, this is Goku I know and remember. DB Goku was innocent, ignorant and cute. DBZ Goku was good, ignorant but ready to fight on any challenges to protect his family and friends
