Seriously why the f*ck doesn't this channel have more subscribers? It is literally the most informative, least annoying car youtube channel around! Keep it up guys! Loving it!
On the manual blip heal toe down shift you mentioned, you have to wait until the you shift out of the higher gear before you blip the throttle, once the shifter is out of the higher gate, in neutral, or in the downshifted gear, the computer will allow the engine blip/rev freely for proper manual heel toe downshifts. I agree it is a bit annoying not to be able to start the blip while in the higher gear, but once you get used to blipping the throttle mid-gear change the manual heel toe process works great. It just adds another element of timing to get correct on your down shifts. Hope this is helpful, give it a try.
Porsche makes cars for cars lovers. 911 R is made for collectors but Porsche didn't forget those who like driving great cars, so they made the gt3 touring who's more affordable but still great. They respect theirs clients. Let's hope they'll continue to do so for long. Long live naturally aspirated engines.
Thank you for video ... My Touring came alive with Dundon Motorsports Street headers and intake -38lbs ... power increase 50lbs torque in mid range, Antigravity lithium battery -35lbs and BBS FIR wheels -24lbs combined reduces 100 lbs weight ... love the ethos of pure drivers road car
I absolutely 100% agree with you on the heel-toe problem - I have the exact same issue with my 2018 GT3 manual. It's the worst choking feeling as the nannies suppress what should be a beautifully free revving engine. It is my one and only big complaint about the GT3, otherwise, I consider it the best car I've ever owned and a lifetime keeper. I daily drive mine. Drove it from Seattle to California for a track weekend at thunderhill last week (2300 miles round trip) and will be doing the same for a trip down to Laguna Seca next month (~3000 miles round trip). Currently sitting around 12k glorious miles. The heel toe problem is related to Porsche's no-lift-upshift coding. Essentially, the ECU thinks that when you press the clutch in and then press on the throttle, that you are planning on no lift upshifting, so it holds the revs constant. Problem is the thresholds for this are way out of wack. It should only engage no lift upshifting if you are sitting at 100% throttle (hence, NO LIFT upshift). If throttle percentage is 95% or lower, it should allow the engine to rev freely. I hope a tuner can sort that feature out - I will gladly pay to update the ECU code to get rid of no lift upshifting, which is a gimmick at best and potentially catastrophic at worst.
Awesome review, I couldn't agree with your points more - not just about how great it is, but also about the Touring moniker. I'm glad that was the only part of the car that seems to have been an afterthought - blame the marketing department! ;) I have had mine for almost 3 years and it is the first car out of about 50 cars I've had that I plan to keep forever - a status I thought no car would ever earn with me. It is certainly better than all the rest. Over 30,000 miles (or perhaps much more!) and going super strong still! I am not sure how many track days I've been to, but it's handled them all perfectly.
@@TheCarGuysTV what would you have more appropriately named this model of Porsche if you didn't have to worry about upsetting 911R owners like Porsche had to do? I would have named it either: 1. 911 GT - simple, straightforward, shouldn't bother 911R or GT3 owners, and doesn't imply it's a soft version. Bonus: it was written on the first GT car (993 GT2) 2. Carrera R - obviously would piss of 911R owners, but follows the precedent of Cayman R.
I own a 2019 GT3 Touring (US model). I have no trouble heel toeing the revs as high as needed. I run sport mode off and use it all the time. Also, when the car is rolling at least 3mph put the car in neutral and you can free rev all the way to red line. Totally agree this is my forever car. 12,000 miles already!
I share similar feelings of the GT3 Touring! I’m a little biased as I have one in the same spec (with the ceramics) and I will never sell this car. I agree wholeheartedly that this one is for life. (I’d love a 911r to admire in my garage though!)
Here I am nearly two years after you posted this video. So a belated "thank you" for a very lovely and thoughtful video. I had a 991.2 GT3 and loved it as a daily driver. I now have a 992 Turbo S as it was better suited for our home in Old Town Alexandria, VA where I lived at the time - a historic area with homes from the late 1700s, a couple cobblestone streets and a thriving restaurant where George Washington, Benjamin Franklin joined other friends for dinner. BTW, I had asked a question after watching your Turbo S review (Clive's Guards Red TTS) wondering if he had the Sport-PASM suspension based on your comments about the ride. Here in the U.S. on the Rennlist Member Forum, the divide between regular and S-PASM is as set in concrete as firmly as the debates about PDK vs. manual transmission, winged vs. Touring GT3 and the two political parties. I have regular PASM and am totally happy with it and I like a firm ride and sometimes drove my GT3 with the suspension in track mode. Aside from an automatic family sedan, I always had a manual transmission sports/sporty car until 2010 when cars like 911 Turbo were only available with PDK. I loved double-clutch, heel-and-toe downshifting so I was aghast and disappointed to learn that it might not be fully defeatable. Last week I visited a Porsche dealer where I've purchased cars in the past. I was told that it is defeatable in the 992 generation. I hope that is true because the experience that you described in a race-bred sports car is hugely disappointing. At the risk of winning an award for the longest comment in the history of YouTubism, I will close. Oh, wait. Here is a video of my 991.2 GT3 that I did with a friend four years ago. Cheers! Love your videos! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-52g-vxLKYxI.html
Thanks for the honest assessment and costs. Refteshing to have an owner who Appreciates what they have.Nice to see someone who actually drives it,owns it ,and pays for it. Enjoy every second in it. Thanks as ever for sharing 👌😎 Stay safe.
That's an easy one to answer mate. Jealousy. Why subscribe an watch something that you're jealous of. Try an get your brain around that one. Anyway we hope you are both keeping well an hopefully meet up soon take care
I saw you driving it through Lymington the other week, it's got such presence on the road. Looked fab! That heel & toe-stopping feature would drive me insane on this car, I wonder if there is a way of re-programming the ecu to stop it from doing that?
I own a 2019 GT3 Touring and with sport mode off I can heel and toe the revs as high as I want. Not sure why you can't in your car. One other tip. If you put the car in neutral while in motion you can rev the motor as high as you want. This is a forever car for me too! 12,000 miles on mine already. Love it!
I don’t have an issue Rev matching in my Touring. Heeling and toeing is fine so find this really odd. Have you had it checked out? Otherwise agree with what you say, I think best car I’ve ever had.
It's so refreshing to hear a true enthusiast: I'm so pleased you're using your car as a daily and intend to get some REAL use out of it. Although I only have a lowly 991.1 C4S it's all the car I could want and despite being told I would ruin the value if I piled on the miles, I never think about how far I'm driving because life in the car is so much more enjoyable than life out of it... Keep up the great work and enjoying your Touring 👍
Great video Damian, thanks for the update on your ownership experience. It’s a deeply deeply desirable car, can’t blame you for wanting to keep it forever. Keep up the great work and thanks for giving us something different with your channel for the car enthusiast.
Haha, a Turbo S isn't exactly a sensible daily from a price perspective. But it's definitely the best daily for most people if money were no issue. It'd be a hard pick between the touring and turbo S for best daily.
great video thanks Damien! awesome class car choice, just had no idea that the soft limiter stops rev matching at higher RPM, seems crazy to do that to a performance car, presumably this isn't the same for the regular GT3 manual?
That heel-n-toe issue you mentioned seems unusual. Mine works fine. Have your OPC look into this. You're right, this car is for life. As Jerry Seinfeld says, it's a dead man's car.
Mine doesn’t do that. I can give it a good rev between gears. In fact I use that very tactic to give a nice boom when coming up behind slower cars on the autobahn to let them know I’m there. 6 to 5 to 4. Maybe even 3 if under 120. Boom. Boom. Boom. Then a nice wringing to 9 which is about 175 km in 3 and then 225 in 4. Leaves the autobahn and the citizens awash in exhaust scream. I seem to get out half the time with ringing ears and talking very loudly. If you get to Germany, check out the roads on the southern side of the Mosel river from Koblenz to Trier that go up and down to the river. Not much traffic and lots of fun. And the 3 south of Frankfurt towards Munich. And then the Grossglockner in Austria. Stay on the hill so you can drive the road at dawn before the toll road opens and the citizens turn up. Best road in Europe. Got a nice picture of mine and a Speedster together up there. Would always have the Touring above a Speedster. And yes a total keeper.
Truly enjoyed the video! I appreciate the Porsche and how you walk us through as if we were in passenger seat! The pista spider road trip is my favorite of all.
I absolutely love my 991.2 gt3, faultless. I’m about to change the tyres and thinking about the Michelin 4 s sport instead of the cup 2 which are a bit sketchy in the wet. Do you have any views, I couldn’t see what tyres you had on. Great owners video review by the way.
Ive been thinking the same thing. Did you do the 4s and what did you think? I often wonder if the Cup3 aren’t too much tyre for the road as its almost too sticky as not to be playful.
@@andrewmorten4948 they have been really good so far, allowed me to use the car in the wet and cold without the issues of the cup tyres. I’ve done a test day at millbrook on them and the dry grip was still brilliant. No regrets
@@ghowells5433 Thanks for that. How’s the turn in on the road? Does the nose feel as sharp, and still eager and keen on hitting the apex’s, or do you need to steer at the apex more. I find with the cup tyres its a case of I think, It does. I like that. I do often think though that’s its got too much grip. That said, I’ve also spun the rears in 4th on a damp autobahn at 140kmh at half throttle. And i always have to watch the weather and if its wet then i don’t go, so it makes planning trips really hard especially as i go to the alps whenever i can and often do 12 hour days in it.... im happy i have the 18 way sofas.
Could you modify the heel/toe behavior with an obdII tool? Love your GT3...I could live with that spec forever....gorgeous. Any road trips coming up? The alps episode was fantastic.
Damian great to see you still using this wonderful car on a daily basis. Give me a shout when you plan on your Germany tour and I'll give you all the inside gen and support you need to make it an unforgettable adventure ;)
Absolutely spot-on review of the GT3T. Congrats and thanks for sharing. I also have a black GT3T (with proper black dials! ;-) ) and wouldn't take $100K over what I paid for it. Always sublime - and you are right on the zero attention - except from other Porsche GT owners...
Great video as normal Damian and the GT3 Touring would definitely be in my garage, I do think you should give an Aston Martin V12 S AMR manual a look as well, I'd definitely have one alongside the GT3 Touring.
You won’t be surprised to hear my broken record comment: „fabulous summary and good to see a fellow Touring user enjoying the car in daily life !“. Let’s connect when you come to Germany. Are you replacing the tires with Cup-2 or consider something more winter ready ?
I equally love my black gt3 touring, I am tempted to upgrade to 992 if it’s only limited to Manual transmission because I think that might be the last generation with 4L NA
I have a simple solution for your podcast volume gripe! Just leave your pcm in the ‘media’ page before you plug in your phone. That way when you turn it on, it opens up on media mode and nothing is playing *silence*. Then you proceed to plug your phone in!
A Touring would be on the Lottery win list for sure. I'm amazed to hear that about the heel and toe, can't believe that's the case on a Motorsport Porsche?!
How about a video with Jason. Your top 10 most exciting cars , each of you have driven. Not always the fastest cars are the most fun. Even slow cars can be a lot of fun.
I keep going back and forth on whether to just lump up the cash and get one of these. I'm interested in the point you said about not being able to turn off autoblip. Oddly I've driven a normal 991.2 gt3 and without sport mode on there didn't seem to be any odd interactions whatsoever. Did they change something in this car? You should come on the podcast at some point, would be nice to meet.
oh and keep up the videos. I like checking in occasionally to see what x,y,z are like from an ownership perspective. It's very different when someone has stumped up their own cash or seriously considering purchasing/not purchasing something. Cheers Sam
Is this a 2019 GT3 Touring? Seems the GT3 is no longer on the website for 2020. If I could afford a GT3 it would be the base model or the Touring (PDK if they offered it...odd they don't..yet).
Damian ever thinking of driving it towards the end of Europe :D would really like to meet you and have a chat in Turkey :D Hope to do it in England one day too :)
I find your remark concerning the size of the 992 very interesting ! I agree: all the cars are becoming too big. My 997GT3 is the perfect size... in my opinion. Previously I had a Ferrari 355, that was perfectly sized as well. I love the 458, but it’s so big. Do you prefer your 718 over the 991, sizewise?
@@Carlos-wm6ev race car? You must joking, right? This is a road car... a FXX is race car... a GT3 is a road car able to do some track use, but it’s not a race car...
Because they are mostly used as shelves. You could maybe put a baby or two, but that's it and for some short drives, because the car would be space restrained for baby stuff space. Not disagreeing, a kid or a dog space would not hurt, but it did well without them, while protecting the gt3 image, saving some extra pennies and no one really cared.
Another quick question; Do you have a favourite watch for each car? IOW do you think of a car to drive that day and then pick a particular watch to go with it?
