In this video I go over my personal opinions on how to properly operate and maintain your GT350. While most of what is covered in this video is opinion based, I can happily say that this 2016 GT350 has 27k miles, a lot of track time, no oil consumption and remains un opened. The AC system and the alternator and starter are also all original so while I am not referencing a book for this info, I have my own car as something to show for my results of how I've taken care of my personal car. This platform is genuinely unique and must be treated a different way than your basic 5.0 engine.

Ford Service Advisor here, Your dealer must be lucky, our dealer Ford pays less labor rate then C pay and the techs often get paid less hours than we would charge a customer which directly lowers the overall cost of the replacement for it. I know its different dealer to dealer but sadly that's how it is at all the dealers around my part of Florida. I used to watch your videos a lot when I had my 350.

There is nothing wrong with a gen1. You need to drive it. Get those RPM's up. The only issue with gen1's is the low tension rings. That's it. If you run the car without a passenger side separator, the rings will get gummed up much quicker. When the rings get gummed, more blow by occurs and it's a vicious cycle. It's why you hear "I used to burn 1qt every 2000 miles, but now i burn 1 qt every 500". These people should be driving a Prius. This is a high compression engine that uses low tension rings (to get more power) Blow by is normal, but you don't want to recycle that blow by back into the engine.

Always started warmed up my car, never got on it without oil temps, changed the oil every 3k with ams, never used a drop of oil, checked oil levels every other tank of fuel, and daily drive it. Always had the piston rattle since new. Then at 40k i started the car and it rattled, sounded like cam phasers, concerned i checked the oil and it was 1quart low, oil use continued to get worse until at 2 quarts per 1k and the back of my car was being covered in soot. Engine was warranted with a gen2, and I still have the car and i love it just sharing my experience.

Good tips. I’ve had my 2019 for 3 1/2 years now. I use Amsoil and change every 5k miles. It consumes half a quart during that time, the passenger separator catches about half of that. It had 31k miles now. Slap is much less prevalent now vs when it had lower miles. I drive off fairly quickly after cold start, but I drive it very softly/slowly, not going over 2.7k rpm and put minimal load on engine. I gradually raise rpm as it warms. I don’t get on it until oil is 190°+. I recently changed trans and diff oil w/Amsoil. Trans oil looked pretty good, but the diff oil was surprisingly pretty dark, especially since I don’t track the car… just spirited driving now and then. Car is super fun; not getting rid of anytime soon.

A good ol' Italian tune up is a must for the GT350. And frankly, why wouldn't you? Those who drive their GT350s as intended have a reliable car. Those who treat it like a Camry...well, should just get a Camry. I have a 2016 as well. I burn about 1 quart of oil per change. My worst was 2 quarts. And I was putting around for that interval. Funny how that works.

Ive owned mine since 2019, Its a grabber blue 2017 car with cartridge filter. At 23k ford changed the engine with the GT350R 2019 engine. Absolutely nothing was wrong with the gen 1, I just kept showing up to ford asking them to check it and finally they agreed to do the replacement. It has since been my daily driver. I have also made the reverse gumball run, taking my time, but miami to Seattle and back in the car. It has seen 110 degree ambient temps down to -24 degrees in the rocky mountains and barely making it over the Passes during winter with no chains LOL. I currently have 75.5k on it and I do similar start up and oil stuff. 1. I dont use a oil catch can because i am a firm believer that the tops of the pistons can get lubed by that shit water oil lololol 2. I wait till 100-109 degrees before I start driving the car, 3. I dont go over 3-3.5k revs until it hits 165-180 4. I dont hit redline until the car is at 185-200 degress. 5. I always make sure to get the car up to 210-212 during trips to make sure to burn off excess water. 6. I use Synergy SVL Triax 5w-50 which has High moly, high zinc, and high hths, it is a street and track formula. works amazing. 7. Ive been racing since 2000, and I have never blown an engine, although my gt350 is now just an everyday car. I stopped racing it. 8. I need to change my spark plugs HAHA. I have also run e85 everyday since 2020. maybe every 4 fill ups I put half tank of 93.

It’s a shame that Ford made these car engines so weak with oil consumption problems. My 2017 Gt 350 oil consumption was 1 to 2 quarts per 500 to 700 miles. Unfortunately, I got rid of it because I didn’t trust it’s longevity. A beautiful looking great sounding experience. I have owned many stangs from 1968 to 2017. All my other stangs never had an oil consumption problem! Just to name a few: 94 Gt, 03 Mach 1 , 2012 Boss 302 and the mighty 04 Cobra.

@Cronus_1
@Cronus_1 7 месяцев назад
The engines fail at the same rate as any other engine. Issues with this engine arise from drivers who do not let the car warm up before getting into high revs and hard driving. The other portion of failures is from running the car low on oil. Keep up on both these things, and you'll likely not have much issue. This is a full aluminum race type engine, so you're not likely going to get the amount of miles that a Toyota Camery is going to get, so you have to go into it knowing that.

@JacesOwnWorld
@JacesOwnWorld 4 месяца назад
The idling thing is weird. I think that’s his personal preference. Unless he has scientific data to back it up, it’s hard to say it’s “what is required” of this engine. All the other things he mentioned are normal things you should be doing with any car, such as waiting to throttle it before it’s warmed up, and waiting for the car to cool down before shutting it off. The E46 and E92 M3’s have factory rpm lights built into the car, that will sequentially turn off once the car warms up. They are there to let the driver know not to go over a certain rpm while the car is warming up. So this type of stuff isn’t new.

It *definitely* helps to use amsoil. I do have piston slap, but it goes away about 80% after fully warmed up above 200. one problem i have is a rough idle when its fully warm. I don't know how to explain it but whenever im idling above 200 oil temp it randomly "misfires" and sometimes the rpms bog or jump and it shakes the whole car. @THEDriverMod_
@THEDriverMod_ 3 месяца назад
@Sam_beydoun there is no added safety. Gen1 and Gen2 are just as good as eachother. Gen 2 has the Predator block so it can take boost alittle better but I wouldn't boost a GT350 anyways. The biggest changes from gen 1 to gen 2 were actually in the suspension with a different steering rack, knuckle etc

@@THEDriverMod_ I was reading an article online and it said that the gen 2 piston and piston rings were Changed since part of the oil consumption issues were due to deformed piston rings.
@THEDriverMod_
@THEDriverMod_ 3 месяца назад
@Sam_beydoun yes the piston rings were upgraded but they still consume oil due to the nature of the beast as a Forged piston and high strung engine

Question: As an interested buyer of a GT350, but legitimately nervous about it given the horror stores of engine and transmission failures, would you be as adamant to follow your process of warming up and cooling down the motor if you had a gen2 motor? My mind is telling me to buy the gen2, but does the gen2 really address the oil consumption issue to where it won’t be a thought in the back of my mind like it would in the gen1 motor? By the way, besides your idling process, I’ve always followed everything else you’ve done with my sports cars. My E46 M3 6spd supercharged and my highly modified MK7 GTI 6spd both have been taken care greatly by myself. M3 has over 200k miles and the GTI has almost 180k miles. Both run perfectly and original motors.

I've had a get 1 for 2 years now. The previous owner beat it up! .. I did allot to bring back to spec. I absolutely love this car, no unusual issues or any surprises 👌 For context I daily drive this baby and I'm already at 50k miles.
@THEDriverMod_

I would follow the process no matter if it's a gen 2 or gen 1, the failure rate is marginally reduced if any with the Gen 2. Still see all the same failures, more top end failures( like dropped valves) in gen 2 vs gen 1 actually. But those are few and far between and not trying to make it sound like it's anything remotely common, just never saw a gen 1 drop a vslve

Just buy a regular coyote... This is not a primary driver's car......Too much for the regular guy. Can you imagine all the ones used out there that are junk? Roll the dice on a used one if you dare. If you didn't take care of this finicky hot rod out of the box like this kid did you can fry this car in a thousand miles...........
