The 2023 Nissan Z Performance is a GT7 day-one car which its surprising that I haven't already covered. But here we are now to do just that...
''In September 2020, Nissan unveiled a new prototype Z car. Its design was reminiscent of the original 240Z (S30) that appeared in 1969. A few months later, Nissan announced that it would be building a production model scheduled to hit the market in North America in 2022. While the new Z would utilize the same platform of previous model, sharing much of the same basic construction, everything else would be completely new.
The new Z features a complex mix of tradition and cutting-edge technology. The exterior follows on form the S30's iconic long nose, while dynamic touches like its undulating character lines and LED headlights make it look fresh. It also utilizes the latest developments in cooling and aerodynamic performance.
The previous generation's naturally aspirated engine was replaced by the powerful VR30DDTT, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 found in the Skyline 400R that produced 399.4 HP/6500 rpm and 475 Nm (350 f-tlb)/1600 rpm-5600 rpm of torque.
This powerplant was mated to a 9-speed automatic with manual mode or a traditional 6-speed manual. To keep the car's curb weight in check for the automatic-gearbox model, the engineers opted to use a magnesium alloy transmission case. Also, the front and rear dampers featured the monotube construction that improved response and an advanced launch control system that ensured the car left the line with aplomb. This is the first time Nissan offered such a system on its rear-wheel-drive models.
Can this classic sports car survive in an industry increasingly moving towards automated driving and electrification? Time will tell, but we think it will not only survive but flourish.''
