I'm black, and I laughed my ass off at Simon's taxi comments. People need to be less uptight and learn to laugh. Get pissed off when its been said in a CLEARLY malicious way. When its for information, or as a joke, just leave it be. Better yet, laugh.

Yo I worked in the service industry for a looooooooong time and in Texas, and I hate to say it but the tipping thing is kinda right. Not all but a large majority of black people would stiff me and even other black people that I worked with too. At the same time though the ones who did tip, tipped WELL. I even remember a nice black gentleman to take the time to make sure that he tipped me correctly. I never like to look at tips in front of my tables though, so it was kinda weird for me, but he was super nice so I obliged and sure enough,it was more than enough. I even let him know and he was like "as long as you got what you supposed to, that's all that matters". So it all evened out.

I was a cab driver. We have black neighborhoods. Some of them get an undeserved bad reputation for the actions of others. Some of them tip nice. Hustler culture is a thing, but I got paid to do a job, and many times, it was getting them to theirs. They tip less often, on average, but the ones that tip are very appreciative of what I consider standard quality. I was a host, and treated all my guests with respect. I felt appreciated in my position, even though the pay was low. Except when one of them negotiates a lower price, *then* pulls out a wallet with plenty of money, which is a dick move to pull on an honest man who will keep to his word. Apparently, many of the less sociable cab drivers did not have my experience, so I'm led to believe that the problem is a blade that cuts both ways, if I had less than half the problem they did. Assuming someone won't tip is a great way to prove yourself right. Racism in customer service is bad business. It's not like I haven't met Swindler types in White people. Cheapskates exist in every group.

The cab not picking up blacks is more because cab drivers don't want to get robbed. I'm sure tipping has something to do with it as well.
