GTA Online’s Map Could’ve Been Much Better, Here’s How 

I wish they did more with sandy shores

They should’ve expanded the map to include the San Fierro region, and then also later add the Las Venturas region. It’s still so disappointing that they didn’t finish San Andreas to this day.

My biggest complaint is that so much land was taken up by mountains and the lack of small towns scattered across the map. The mountains make traveling for a pain and it makes many of the missions more time consuming and cumbersome.

The map is disappointingly small. It should be a larger representation of the map from "San Andreas". With the cities of San Fiero and Las Venturas. With a mountain range as the Eastern and possibly Northern boundaries. A lot more properties should be enterable. Such as the fast food shops, bars, nightclubs, Bahama Mamas, banks, building lobbies, and the mall.

I feel like they left out so much from the map, they could've added flint county/blaime county since in one of the Franklin and lamar missions, Franklin will mention that a fire happened in that area which could hint that its supposed to be there but was left out.

They could’ve at least finish the mile high club

And Fort Zancudo is SO underutilized it’s insane for the potential of a huge military bases with tons of exclusive vehicles, imagine if you gained access to using the base’s tanks and aircraft by becoming a solider or something. Same with the prison

At least they allowed us to access Simeon’s car dealership as an enterable interior in GTA Online to buy one of those 188 vehicles they removed from the websites (If they happen to appear there). They also finally added animals into GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles that makes the game world a bit more alive.

Modders are already working on most things mentioned in this video. Town next to Paleto - Roxwood Project. Mile High club - Rags and Riches Mod. Map expansion - Las Venturas Project. L.A REVO Mod.

What really stinks is when in single player, you use the Enable All Interiors mod that also makes North Yankton and Cayo Perico acessable, and you realize it’s all empty with nothing to do except explore. It’s more space for zombies mods, at least

I even talked about this in a video I made they left out so many parts from San Andreas’ Los Santos like East Beach (Long Beach) and Las Colinas (Lincoln heights) Instead we just got oil fields and palomino highlands

Ik some people aren't gonna agree with me, but I feel like they should make some of the restaurants accessible like Cluckin Bell, Burger Shot, and like Up & Atom Burger and have like 3 different options to pick from the menus and heal ourselves depending on how big your order is Like for example: Small meals: only 20% health Medium meals: 50% health Larger meals: 100% health

The Diamond Casino should've been the tower that has been under construction for 10 years.

I drift on those mountains when i'm bored. wish they made a drift series race on the mountains. (iknow "theres a hill to die on" but it doesn't feel the same tbh)

I remember in 2014 we on the GTA Forums were all hopeful and speculating about all the map expansions we'd be getting: SF, LV, even an updated Liberty City. Zero of that materialized. What a disappointment. R* learned they can make millions of cash card sales without having to make that kind of effort

I hate how there are a lack of private /side streets with houses that was my problem with the gta 4 map too

I think the biggest problem with the map is the content dispersion. The map is actually pretty big, but most of the game’s content is located in Los santos, which means most players will stay there. And because players don’t travel a lot, the map feels smaller and less interesting, because players only see one part of it.

GTA 4s map feels bigger than GTA 5s because 1/2 of 5s map is useless ugly desert and mountains. Also 4 had so many enterable interiors whereas 5 has almost none .

I remember another RU-vidr said that Lester mentioned the river north of Pareto bay, which was actually an ocean. So maybe they had plans to add a new town or maybe even a city like San Fierro??

I think they did a poor job with the airports. LSIA is much too small, and i wish we had another airport above mount chilliad Or even a way to fly planes to north yankton via cutscene, similar to the cayo perico info setup mission Also more caves could be interesting, especially if they added one large cave to explore

I wish instead of paleto bay we got San Fierro in the north. This would spread players out across the map abit more and give people more of a reason to travel through the country side. I imagine that they are saving major GTA city’s for future titles unfortunately.

I wish they made V similar to San Andreas

TBH it's compromised by originally being designed for X360/PS3. Everything about it needs to be bigger. Los Santos, they did a great job of capturing a microcosm of Los Angeles. But it does not come close to conveying the sheer sprawl of even the LA basin, far less the broader metropolitan area.

The PS3 not being able to handle those interiors is not true at all. They are only loaded when the player is inside them, not outside for optimization. So the PS3 could have easily handle that and not even lose performance in the process. It was a conscious to lock those interiors to specific missions, a stupid decision tho

Yeah they could open up those interiors at martins and that vineyard and put some kinda little activities or something out there to make that hilly area more interesting. I hate those hills to west the most though.

On the bright side in GTA online these little known parts of the map get used much more through either missions or pure necessity as well as pure circumstance that lead to people ending up in these far off places

It's a bit of a wilderness west of Harmony. There should've definitely been another town next to the southern Fort Zancudo entrance, for instance.

This map design was honestly so stupid. Looks like they're improving with gta 6 because there's gonna be several cities. I hope it's gonna be like SA

My biggest complaint with the map surprisingly two things number one they didn’t add the San Fernando Valley . Sure, they did add Vine-wood and Vinewood Hills, but after that in real life, Los Angeles there is Toluca Burbank, Studio City, Van Nuys in the game there’s nothing but hills and the second. I think the Alamo should’ve been where Palomino Heights is or even further down makes no sense that Alamo Sandy Shores is north because north of Los Angeles is central California farm land so they did get that right with grapeseed, but there should’ve been more farmland northern maybe even they construction of the five interstate known as the 15 maybe

San Francisco and Vegas would have been nice

Palito should have some short of fishing stuff or tourist facilities

There is a small wooden house on a mountain hill near route 68 that is somewhat hidden. I always wanted to live there in gta online😢it has an amazing landscape

I like the mountains. I just think they need a lot more forest area in the mountains.

GTA 7 will have to do the state of san andreas again but los santos is replaced with san diego and additional areas like seattle, arizona, flagstaff.

I really hope GTA VI has DLC that expands the map, it could be a way for R* to fulfill the project Americas idea and continue to provide the community with DLC that we can be truly excited about.

I'm pretty bored of the map at this point. But really adding more stuff to the middle and northern part of the map + interiors would freshen things up a lot imo. As it is right now there's not much reason to leave the city in online unless mission sends you there.

I can't believe people actually think the mountains are "wasted space"! I'd so hate to be one of the sad players who never leave LS. Without that "wasted space" I would have stopped playing years ago.

The mountain area was fun how it was. A lot of people like to do touge type stuff and driving through those roads fast can be challenging. The game would be boring if we could just follow the highway.

I think something that would be cool to see is more traffic and npc's, It's L.A so you think it would have a lot of people, the only thing is that you might crash a lot into other cars while driving lol.

If there is one thing this map needs its definitely not prolonging more 🤣 get us gta6 already

This whole map could've been expanded when ported to PC, the fact there's only one city in the game is still hilarious when the original had 3 sizable cities.

Rockstar got kinda greedy since ps4 and xbox 1 were released only 1 month after gta 5 was and rockstar knew that

They should've used North Yankton for a heist. Possibly robbing a hotel or something. Same kinda preps as Cayo with multiple infiltration types.

Having mountain regions is kinda nice nature areas are my preferred places everyone congregates around the main ls customs in the city and it's boring I love places like the paleto forests

Everybody talks about how the construction sites should be finished but a game like gta should have atleast one construction site cuz there can happen so much

There should be more trees around the map. The Paleto Bay forest could have been more dense.

I think they should have made something closer to GTA San Andreas. 3 smaller cities instead of one big one.

What about adding liberty city, las venturas san feairo. I would also see vice city but this is the hd universe and the are currently making it for gta 6 but whats to stop them making a hd universe version of san feairo and las venturas

I like your videos, but don’t get your hopes up. They’re done with Los Santos. They’re putting all their eggs into GTA 6 so expect all these DLC‘s or added bonuses whatever they will not be anything remotely astonishing maybe even worse so you quickly switch over to GTA six and GTA six online and buy the copy or whatever

Im so tired of that boring outdated map! We haven't got a single map expansion in 10 years! Only thing they did is opened and redesigned the casino! There was so much they could do: add Las Venturas and San Fierro, finish Mile High Club, restore Sandy Shores, add East Beach from GTA SA! Instead they did nothing!

Im so glad gta 6 will be in florida so it will be flat. The only thing I liked about gta v mountains was that I live around mountains and it felt familar.

Replace the mountains with more buildings/city? That would NOT be better! Not at all.

Asking: "why hasn't rockstar finished the mile high club?" Is kind of like asking: "why hasn't infinity ward finished the map 'hard hat'?" I think the city skyline looks better with the tower under construction. And tbh, finishing the mile high club would add very little life to the game. It probably wouldn't even come close to the casino in terms of its popularity and utility. If rockstar wanted to add more years to GTAO's lifespan, they should have followed through and added liberty city, or added more small towns and areas to the GTAV map like you suggest in the video.
