It gave me flashbacks to getting the student union's minibus stuck on a country lane last year and having to do about a 15-point turn to get free, with students from a rival university sports club pointing and laughing! Also the gears were well dodgy and we stalled approx. every 10 seconds! Such good times!

You just reminded me of when my cousin (who doesn't actually have diagnosed narcolepsy, he just falls alseep with very little warning) realised he was going to fall asleep and pulled over on a motorway to have an inevitable nap. He woke up to somebody banging on the window and phoning an ambulance because they thought he'd had a heart attack at the wheel 😅 nice to know there are good people about I suppose

@@emmahealy4863 that makes me really nervous for your cousin. sounds like he has narcolepsy (probably type 2 because type 1 comes with Cataplexy which us extremely noticeable). If he gets a diagnosis, he can take stimulant meds, which will help regulate his sleep schedule to reduce the frequency of daytime sleepies, and help him fight off those involuntary naps more successfully. He should also try to pull off the road in less visible places when possible because if someone cannot wake him by knocking on the window and calls 911 about it assuming he needs help, then law enforcement and the local department of transportation could find out he has an untreated/unmanaged sleep disorder. If that happens, they can revoke his license until he is treated. They will make him go months on a successful treatment plan to prove that it works long term before he can get his license back. It's such a hassle. that being said, I'm impressed with his fearlessness. I am the opposite. I'm over cautious because I'm terrified of hurting someone else on the road. I won't even drive large cars or trucks because if someone has to get hurt in a sleep induced collision, it should be me. I had onset at 13, diagnosed at 14, and I have type 1 N. I refused to learn to drive at 15 until I got medication to keep me awake. Now, at 29, there is a list of things that will stop me from driving because after 16 years with this neurological nightmare I've learned my body's narcolepsy tendencies very well.
