use a shop vac to get rid of the bulk of wasps and then spray and remove nest after the main group is gone, park the hose by the nest and gohave a beer, 30 min later they are mostly gone
As far as the mud wasps, I’ve been told to mix peppermint oil and water and to spray in problem areas. Apparently the smell (which is quite pleasant) discourages bugs from making themselves comfortable.
Just saw your channel for first time. I bought an 84 for 10k and sailed for two seasons without a dime into it. Fortunately the boat has good solid bones. Ready to dump $$$$ new sails, dodger, Bimini. I knew this going in, so the hit is expected. Can I ask what you all paid for her ? And good luck to you.
Congrats on your boat and that's awesome you've not had any problems. We've dumped a fair amount of money into fixing her up, but it's definitely been a learning opportunity for us which will help us in the long run.
@@zandrarichardson5084 and Dennis decided not to say. Why does it matter? Every market is different and every boat is different. They paid what they paid however many years ago. It's irrelevant now.
I have an 81 C30 New Trans & Flex disk, alternator, picked it up for 10K and now have another 5 in it but do my own work so that saves a lot, if you don't like to tinker on boats, be rich.

There's several Facebook groups dedicated to Catalina's if you haven't already checked there. We're also members of: groups.io/g/Catalina30/topics, and although Catalina 30' specific, there's a fair amount of overlap between the models.
So are we! We were quite fortunate to have noticed our broken bilge pump and so sorry for that family. Please let us know if you install 2 automatic bilge pumps.
There are not a lot of Catalina owners showing the challenges of owning an older boat. We just bought our own 1980 Catalina 30, and whiles have so far been a little more fortunate it sounds in the initial purchase, there are so many things that have to be dealt with! Thanks for showing some of your tips and tricks!

GTFOplan I’m in City Island the Bronx, this will be the 9th year having a boat, 7th with this one. Lots of upgrades but shes finally at the point that im not changing, just repairing replacing and maintaining.
I'm 6'1. I pretty much have room throughout much of the center of the boat. We ended up using the v-berth as our sleeping area since it gave us enough room lengthwise. It does get cramped towards the V with our feet, but the wide section is basically a king width. The salon bed is right at 73-74", but it didn't give us enough room for sleeping once you account for flattening you feet, putting your arm over your head, etc. Hope that helps!
1984 Catalina... All the things you had to fix are about right based on age of boat. The window covers on the insides of your port lights will cause crazing and then the next owners will complain about your maintenance. Does P.O.S. stand for "Piece of Shit"?
@@GTFOplan I would avoid doing that when talking about any sail boat, even your own. Many people have "less nice" boats than the one you own and will take offense. Not a good way to build subs. IMHO.
