This story reminds me of my math teacher this year. He told us on the first day that he liked smash bros, but I kinda just assumed he was one of those Nintendo fans that just plays any Nintendo game and has fun with it. Later on, he gave us off of homework bc he didn’t want to grade it bc of a “video game he wanted to try out”. This was the same day as the ggst beta. I later found out that he was a tournament donkey Kong player who was getting into fighting games, and now we’re starting an esports team, including a one man fighting game team (me) that plays ggst.

"The game". The moment I read Guilty Gear I couldn't stop the smile on my face. Zappa/Bedman fam rise up. That coincidence is pretty wild. Awesome story.

I've worked with kids of all ages at the local civic center and local track team for a couple years and the part about being a "friend, therapist, coach, etc" is so damn accurate. Stories like these make it all worth it.
