Your knowledge of railway history is so very interesting to listen to and the videos puts us right there along with you. Thanks for doing these and future series.

Thanks. It's good to know people are following along and enjoying the history lessons. There's a lot more on the way and I'm literally right now trying to dig up more information for the videos.

I could understand, with all the little creeks etc any possible culverts not being kept clear or maintained being problematic. In that ponding or worse could occur behind them and then unexpectedly release, causing issues for the CPR, hence the removal of sections of embankment. In areas where there was slumping, I wonder if to build up the embankment wooden cribbing was used and has slowly rotted away. Interesting to see the many small trees. I would have thought, unless there had been logging or fire in the area, they would have been more substantial after this length of time.

I was wondering some of those very same things as I was hiking this section and then later on watching the videos back. You'll see that some of the creek crossing have steep, abrupt sides, which means they washed out or were dug out. Others slope gently towards the creek which to me means that they were purposely altered to allow vehicles to pass. In one of the later segments there was one crossing where there was a permanent slow order for a "bridge," but I found no evidence of a bridge at the spot. Either it was a box culvert or they did a good job cleaning up what remained of the bridge. I also noticed the small size of the trees directly on the grade. There were larger ones off to the side, which means the grade was clear for a long period of time after the railway was gone. In spots you could see ATV ruts, so people were going through the area with motorized vehicles not that long ago.

Pretty much. This was a rough hike. Like I said in the videos, these were much easier when I was in my 20s!
