Hi man, i have been watching your videos about shared VRAM. I have a question about shared VRAM, do u think is it possible mine ethereum using for example, x2 GTX 1050ti (4GB + 4GB) or x3 GT 1030 (2GB + 2GB + 2GB)?? Thanks in advance. :)
Hey there, sorry for late reply! Unfortunately sharing a VRAM between graphic cards does NOT work like this: 4+4 = 8 or 6+2 = 8. The Equation is (4+4)/2 = 4 or (6+2)/2 =4. When sharing the VRAM you must dived by how many cards you have so if you have 3 GTX 1030s then your total shared VRAM is (2+2+2)/3 = 2 Gb. Beside that ETH can be mined with a GPU that has a VRAM higher than 6. So if you have a GPU let's say GTX 1660 and GTX 1030 your total shared VRAM will be 4 but because also your system use VRAM for displaying windows and VRAM is used by other apps your total available VRAM can be 3 or 2.5 Total Shared VRAM. To make it simple: 1) Check your GPU with highest VRAM let's say 6 Gb. Then you can mine ETH plus another Crypto that has lower DAG file like Ravencoin or ETC or BTG. If you want to share VRAM with GTX 1050TI then you can Mine extra RVN, ETC and BTG. If you want to add GTX 1030 then the only coin you can actually mine is BTG because it has a low DAG files a little bit above 2 Gb (last time I checked it was 2.2 Gb VRAM). 2) If you have Only a GTX 1050TI and a GTX 1030 you can mine ONLY BTG with both cards, as long as your system does NOT require a lot of VRAM resources. Still from my tests it didn't work to mine BTG on both GPUs, it's just not enough overall VRAM. 3) For a successful VRAM sharing I would recommend RTX 3060 with 12 Gb vram and any of the above mentioned low quality GPUs.
Hi there! I'm quite interested in trying to mine with shared VRAM, I have an old GT 720 and am trying to figure out what to do with it, but I have a few questions/things I'm still hung up on! Does only betterhash support shared VRAM mining? Or can I get something like a pheonixminer client to do that? Do I need to have two cards, or can shared VRAM mining use the shared VRAM I see in my system? If I need to have 2+ cards, can I mix and match nvidia vs amd or do they all need to be nvidia? Thanks so much!
Ok so in order for your Video card to do any mining your GPU must have: 1) at least 4 GB of VRAM, because at least 2.5 to 3.2 GB are used for mining and the remaining for windows to operate 2) you must have definitely have a mining of 2 cards in order to share the VRAM otherwise it cannot be called sharing 3) Any video cards (GPUs) must have at least DDR5 VRAM because DDR4 are quite useless in mining anything these days 4) Older GPUs must be compatible with newer ones, so your gtx 720 might not mine properly or anything at all for that matter, even with a shared VRAM. 5) AMD goes with AMD and with NVIDIA is them same thing.
