GU10 bulb stuck in socket? Here’s how to remove and replace it... 

Thank you! I was trying everything: a suction cup, my fingertips…. It was the “pushing up” that did it. Fastest time ever for changing one of these awful inventions! Very grateful you took the time to make the video.

For anyone struggling to release pull/release a GU10 from the fitting (can't turn or pull), try using a small suction cup like you might find on something that sticks to a wall. as discussed in the video, press inward while turning anticlockwise (approx. 45°) to unlock, then use the suction cup to pull gently. I was struggling with mine for a while but this worked immediately for me.

I really appreciate this video too. I had purchased one of the suction cups to help remove the bulb. Unfortunately, I had no idea that you had to twist it. I was baffled until watching this video. Embarrassed I couldn’t figure this out but glad to get the job done.!!

Thank you very much for the advice about the firm pressure and the application of a rubber suction cup. For me, both pressure and the application of a suction cup did the trick! The rubber suction cup is commonly found in "stick on" bathroom wall accessories like a towel peg or a shower sand timer that can adhere quite well to a smooth tile surface, which is quite easy to detach from your bathroom accessory to apply to the (COLD) bulb head surface. So, with suction cup in place, press quite firmly and rotate anti-clockwise about a quarter turn to remove the bulb from its fitting, and vice versa (clockwise) to fit the replacement bulb. But in general I find these flush fit bulbs rather fiddly to insert and remove from their fixture.

I used my rubber coated garden gloves to grip and twist the bulb👍🏻Sometime you need to improvise😊

I found pushing my palm flat against it worked wonders... had been trying for ages and that worked instantly

Thank you so much for this. I needed duct tape stuck to the bulb and shaped to include a pulling handle to pull the bulb downwards after turning it to get the job done. I was totally losing my mind before finding this video!

I ended up using duct tape to remove the bulb. I bent the tape over so it would stick to the bulb and my fingers and twisted and it came out. I did however say a few swear words while doing this. Now I am taking a rest before I put the new one back in.

A design that requires a special tool/technique and/or causes a lot of frustration is not an improvement. It is merely a change. I've had mine working in the kitchen where good lighting is essential. The first 7 years went pretty well but, during the past 2 years, they seem to operate under the influence of aliens in flying saucers orbiting the earth. New bulbs or old bulbs, they light up according to their own random timetable. I'll be taking down the fixture and checking all the connections to pinpoint the cause of erratic on again/off again performance.

You can use a rubber suction cup.

Came here looking for an actual gu10 stuck in the socket. This unfortunately was not it.

It works but only in case everything is smooth, lens does not rotate, socket does not rotate i.e. you are lucky. Otherwise the only option is to dismount the whole thing / or just break the lamp (turn the electricity off completely!) and unscrew it gripping from inside. Whoever invented this crap, deserves the Nobel Prize at least.

When I watch these videos, the installers are always touching the surface of the bulbs. Why when you purchase these bulbs it clearly stated, NOT TO TOUCH THE SURFACE WHATSOEVER. This could leave residue from your hands that could shorten the life of the bulbs. So how are you supposed to install into a range hood without touching the surface?

Hello, in the United States do you use lamps with a gu10 socket? What spotlights would you use to illuminate the interior of a hotel in the USA?

My old bulb disappeared into the space . It became disconnected from the wire. I put a new bulb onto the wire and it works but it is hanging down. How do I retrieve the old globe?

What can I do if the socket itself is twisting along with the light bulb?

My bulb fitting isn’t in the roof. It’s on a downlight that the fixture comes out of the wall. Very worried about having to apply pleasure as I’m finding I have to hold the top of the casing too or else I’d just push the whole thing off the wall in one swift motion

Thanks but mine still stucked. I even removed the hood screen and unplugged the bulb from inside. But because of the clip, it's still stucked. Ridiculous design.

The lightbulb I hate the most

Try that on a greasy vent hood, the damn bulb is stuck and won’t turn with a suction cup or a piece of duct tape, that won’t even stick to the glass! I even broke the rim off the bulb by “firmly” pushing the damn bulb! I wonder what a numb nut invented that kind of bulb to begin with?!
