We were super excited about hiking Guadalupe Mountains National Park because we were lucky enough to time it perfectly for the fall colors and therefore see McKittrick Canyon Trail at it's best - and I can see why it is often called "The Most Beautiful Hike in Texas". Because we were feeling ambitious we tacked on the Devil's Hall trail on the same day.
We are Matt & Diana and we live in an RV full time and are on a journey to visit all 400+ National Park Units. To follow us along subscribe to our channel ru-vid.com...
Guadalupe Mountains National Park was unit #2 out of #419 on our journey to visit them all. See a detailed write up here: www.adventurousway.com/blog/g...

Wow! Nice! Mckittrick canyon.

Mckittrick canyon is a really pretty hike, i love the Texas madrone trees in the fall...they are squiggly and have peachy colored flesh with peeling bark. And guadalupe peak is a fairly easy hike with a lovely view. Its the highest elevation in texas!

It's so beautiful, right? It's been a few years since we were there now and I can still remember it so vividly!

Thank you for sharing! I have been going up to McKittrick for 10 years now and am lucky enough to have a family member who owns most the land below the peaks and the second home of the Pratt's which they lived in while building the "Ship of the Desert". A good friend of mine has had the goal to make the hike since I took him last year but he needed to lose weight to do so. Well he has lost 100 lbs. and is ready to do it, so in Sept 2019 I owe it to him to make the hike. Thank you for showing us the way.

Wow, that's amazing that he worked so hard and is now ready to the hike! Good on you for taking him there in the first place and inspiring him.

We were there last year. Beautiful unknown place. 👍

We loved it! And indeed less known, we didn't know about it before we started visiting all the national parks.

Thanks for sharing. We discovered Guadalupe Mtn. NP too last fall. We had never heard of it before and really enjoyed it. We did the Devil’s Staircase trail but not the McKittrick trail. You must be in better shape than us to do both in a day. The Fall colors were beautiful.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 5 лет назад
It was tough to do both in the same day, especially because in late fall the sun went down earlier. So we had to keep up the pace to make sure we got back before dark.

Great video! Having been there myself I have to say the camera does NOT do this park justice!

Totally agree! It's so hard to capture the beauty of these places!

I'm going there this wkd! I love how informative and straightforward your video is, there's not pretense about being a youtuber and trying to pretend about anything. This gives me a great idea of what to expect. This is the first video of yours I'm watching. What are your favorite parks to visit in your home country/countries? I hope talk are continuing to be safe thru COVID.

I hope you had a great hike! I (Diana) am from Latvia and it's a small country and has only 4 National Parks, so I like them all :)
@foggybottomz
@foggybottomz 3 года назад
@@AdventurousWay I will put Latvia on my list :). Both hikes were wonderful even though I only had time to go to Pratt's Cabin at McKittrick. I'm hoping to return in two weeks and go to the Notch. I have lived in Midland, TX, for the past four years. Guadalupe NP is just three hours away and I wish I thought to go more often! I hiked Guadalupe Peak this past February at least. I saw that you guys made Livingston your permanent residence. I grew up in Houston and moved to Midland for work in the oilfield but now it's time to leave due to the economy and I'm looking elsewhere in Texas. Did you guys film a video or write a blog post about how you chose Livingston out of all places?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 3 года назад
@@foggybottomz we chose Livingston because it's the home base of Escapees RV Club. We wrote a blog post about why we chose that route: www.adventurousway.com/blog/establishing-texas-residency

What is that book you were stamping? Does it list all the parks?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 5 лет назад
The book I am stamping is National Park Passport Collector's Edition. This one does list all the parks and has space for stamps for all 400+ parks. But note that when new parks are established it takes time until it appears in the book. www.eparks.com/product/128482/Passport-To-Your-National-Parks%C2%AE-Collector%27s-Edition/ Before we embarked on this big trip we used the smaller version. It still lists all the parks on a map, but only has limited spaces for cancellation stamps for each region. We filled 3 of these smaller ones before we got the bigger one. www.eparks.com/product/22515/Passport-To-Your-National-Parks%C2%AE/ Either of those is a fun souvenir from National Park visists.

What month were you in this park? Colors change a little later in west Texas.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
It was very early November (of 2018) and it was towards the very end of the fall colors.

Adventurous Way good luck in your travels. I am a little better than halfway through the National Park sights. Having spent most of my life in the South, I still have a lot to see in the West.

@Ryan Heafner if you're still looking to go, the leaves were at what I think is peak or about to be peak last weekend at McKittrick and Devil's hall (11/6 - 11/8). The ranger said the colors may last through this upcoming weekend if the windstorm on Sunday night didn't blow everything away.

Will you be going near Denver on your way to or from the 4th July Xscapers convergence in Salida, CO? PM me we would love to meet up with you. We live about an hour west of Denver.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 5 лет назад
Actually, we might! We don't have set plans yet for after the convergence, but it might include a stop by Denver area. It would be fun to meet up! It doesn't look like I can PM you via RU-vid. Can you send us an email to hello@adventurousway.com ?
