I think Cao Cao's eulogy for Guan Yu in the 2010 Three Kingdoms series sums up the God of War perfectly: Ah Yunchang! As one grows older one becomes nostalgic, I have been reminiscing on old times. How you cut down Hua Xiong before the wine had cooled, when you cut down Yan Liang and Wen Chou. When you left behind your seal and riches. When you slew the six commanders at the five passes. What tremendous skill you had with your blade! But why did you have to die at the hands of those cowards? That is because you lacked a good master. If you had followed me, you would still be alive. Liu Bei is a sanctimonious hypocrite. I'm the only ruler with true talent and vision...and you? You lacked nothing, except for the right master. However, on the other hand, if you had switched your allegiance to me back then and did not go seek your former master, you would have lost my respect. Why is that? Because I Cao Cao admire people who are loyal and righteous too, but ideally, loyal to me.

It is never too late to give up the 2010 version and consider watching the 1994 version: much more accurate historical background (contrary to popular belief) and much more respectful towards REAL Chinese culture..
As far as I know he is the greatest warrior in that land because of his Justice inside his heart. A man with justice receives the mandate from the heaven. Right now the world needs warrior like him
i remember as a kid i stopped reading the romance of the three kingdoms when I figured out that guan yu is going to die. Restarted reading it again several years later, only to give up once more when zhuge liang dies, marking the inevitable doom of Shu-Han. the saddest thing for me about three kingdoms is that not the idealists (shu-han) nor the charming evil (Cao cao) got the final victory ;(
There is a reason Guan Yu is the God of War and Loyalty. Not only was he a fierce and capable fighter his sense of honor and loyalty was unmatched in a chaotic era where people constantly changed sides.
About the Guan Yu tatoo...People say you never get a tatoo of Guan Yu with open eyes, because the ledgend says that if Guan Yu open his eyes, he would be ready to kill, if you get a Guan Yu tatoo with open eyes, you wont be able to take such strong energy, you will eventually die horribly from accident or sickness.

@@daveeygdoeschinese Sun Jian would be awesome the man spent his entire life fighting the enemies of the Han. His victory over Dong Zhuo at Dagu Pass must have been the stuff of legends. He really was the blade of the imperial Han. More Shu figures would be cool too since I feel they are the ones the Novel takes the most liberties with.
Great video as always. Ironically Guan “God of War” Yu actually has more defeats recorded than victories. This however may be due to Shu’s infamously bad historical record keeping. He of course was also an arrogant jerk. However even Chen Shou, Cao Cao and Lu Meng spoke highly about him. This obviously doesn’t work for a book. Luo Guanzhong had to make him appear great otherwise it be a pretty bad book and so he had him kill, Hua Xiong, Wen Chou, and the 5 commanders. It’s possible his actual feats were just as great if not more but there are no records. His widespread worship is really an astounding phenomenon and it really goes to show how we can come to idealize and in this deify people
It's easy to think that an honored men was venerated to saint-like miraculous peforming deity but no.. guan yu is an avatar and indeed for people who worship him, experience miraculous stuff. everything is energy and when collective consciousness believe in attributes of a deity and continually honoring and worshipping them, the power is real. ultimately, the universe is within us, what is external is what's projected by our consciousness, thus whatever we think, it is.
*He is not really a god of war.* Chinese Pantheon doesn't function the way Western pagan pantheon does. Guan Yu is one of many MANY deities with a military posting. Chinese pantheon functions like Dynastic government. For most deities below the Jade Emperor and within the proper ranking pantheon. It's separate into the military officials and civil service official. Most of the thunder gods are 'war gods' as well, if you consider military officials to be 'war gods'. Sun WuKong is technically both civil and military depending on which stage of his development, by the later stage he is both war god and buddha outside of the proper ranking of deities. Another way of thinking Chinese war gods are like proper military, with a multitude of generals and admirals.
Guan Yu never beat Hua Xiong or Wen Chou in real history... Sun Jian beat Hua Xiong while Wen Chou was KIA with no mention of who struck the final blow
Hmmm the xiongnu empire (ancestor of the Mongols) during this time was conquered by the Han. Oh and the Mongols were subjugated by the Ming and later completley conquered by the Qing. In fact the ancestral grounds of Genghis is currently in China and there are more Mongolians in China than there are in "Mongolia".

@@hiroshiwada_ Mongolia was once united by China and was ruled in whole and currently in part by China. What happened after doesn't matter. The fact is, Mongols are currently Chinese subjects and when they "united" China they became Chinese too adopting Chinese culture and titles. The fact that the majority of them are currently Chinese citizens doesn't change no matter how "great" they were in the past. Also Guanyu would have beat Mongol warrior's ass, because that is what the dynasty he lived in just did. The mongols' ancestor were Chinese subjects during the Han.
@@hiroshiwada_ china was long united way back in the Qin dynasty 2k years ago, if conquering china means unifying china then the manchus pretty much did the same thing too..and using that logic, america united japan too, not tokugawa. However one thing you said is right, there's no way warriors from this era could fight off the mongols and their horse archery tactics, they were way too good for their time, empires literally fell to them one after another.
