Hi Steve, we have only just found you and have subscribed because you are quite funny. I used to have a place on the costs, I was OK with breakfast on my own, I would read a newspaper, and lunch, read a book - what do you do of an evening? I see someone suggested joining a gym or maybe Spanish lessons. Muy calor is very hot when talking about the weather but caliente is when you are talking about hot food. Keep up the videos, great work!
If I was in your situation, I would join a gym or would volunteer to meet people and have a social life while there. Based on what I have watched through your videos, Spain seems really nice, not expensive and it looks safe. All you need is a circle of people to socialize.
I think you are right, over time I think I'll get more involved with others. But, I am content, Im enjoying the solitude...for now. Im friendly with one of the families in the apartment block, english speakers and its making me realise I could do with more company.
I hear Chiangmai is supposed to be slightly cooler and less humidity if you are he'll bent in returning to Thailand. Alternatively, buy or work in a bar in Benidorm, you will meet people who speak English. Since retiring, I have also struggled with finding a purpose so can't help you there!
Thanks for your thoughts. I've considered a few different parts of Thailand where there is a cooler climate, Chiang Mai looks wonderful. "Finding a purpose" is exactly right, I haven't thought about it that way but after working all my life, that's the right way to see Look at it 👍

Just discovered your channel and looking to live around that area in Spain or Torrevieja looking for ideas. As for only Spanish speaking areas. I did a course and failed miserably , but did the duo lingo app and it started sinking in. ( The free one, I find more challenging and better ). I'm not great but getting there. FUNNIEST QUOTE OF THE VIDEO! " WHO OWNS ALL THE CARS !!!" 🤣😂🤣Now you can do the Father Ted thing and play "ghost town " by the Specials. Because I don't see anyone there! 🤣. Happy hunting 😁👍
LOL Welcome to the channel . I have been using the Duo Lingo app but I fear I'm getting too old to learn a language, or maybe a bit stupid.....Spanish def very difficult. My one bit of advice would be to spend some time in both areas before you decide! Its quiet, especially now coming into the winter but really nice here in Guardamar 😄
@@TheRamblingIrishman Well I'm 50+ and I'm about 600 days on duo. Certain times , something clicks and your on a high then you find it hard to grasp things like past or present tenses and then you want to give it up.. I found deep in the back of your mind without you knowing it. How ever if you go to Thailand it would be a waste of time 🤣. In my experience younger people appreciate that your trying to speak their language. I have a few of your videos to catch up on. Guardamar looks nice. Not too touristy . 😁. Say hi to Molly 👍🐕

I've really no time scale Paul, I'm just going to let myself settle in here and take things as they come. Thailand is always in my mind but I'd want to be sure I'm happy living like this over a longer period!
