In-conversation Session | Guardians of the Coast: Island States and Climate Challenges | In the face of escalating global warming consequences, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) stand as the vanguard, enduring the brunt of rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and ecological disruptions. Climate vulnerability, exacerbated by rising temperatures and extreme weather events, often necessitates forced migrations, and devastating livelihoods and resources, forcing people to seek more habitable areas. As nations navigate the multifaceted challenges in the Indian Ocean changes, the role of smaller coastal and island states, particularly in Africa, is expected to be instrumental in advancing common existential interests in the Indo-Pacific due to their strategic positions- becoming central in advocating for collective action and pressing challenges so that communities no longer have their lives dictated by the encroachment of the high seas.
